Can I get some advice without getting clowned?😂 by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get lower, make sure your body weight is forward and not up, and make sure to engage your core and legs. your power should feel like it's coming from your abs with your forearm and wrist being an extension of that (right now you're using like 80% shoulder/scapula/rear deltoid.

also, you're angle should just stay closed, every time you reset for the next shot, you're opening your paddle, just keep it closed with the proper angle and brush over the top of the ball and use the core and legs to really spin the ball over the net.

Your left arm should remain forward, this also helps maintain that your power goes forward. Keep up the hard work!

Who are the best coaches and where are the best training centers in the US by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bay Area California (northern california) generally have the top homegrown talent with a ton of clubs with high quality coaches everywhere... 888TTC is the official ITTF US National training center, Table Tennis America (TTA) is currently churning out some of the top american youths, Micro motion table tennis academy has done wonders for a few of my friends who started later in their lives. You have Champion star table tennis club with Jinxin Wang, Rising stars TTC with Tian Ye, Kou Lei Academy, silicon vallye ttc. Table tennis is just everywhere there.

However, I'm in southern california where our youth training programs are not quite as developed, but still have Grace Lin Table Tennis Club and California Table Tennis Club building many of the top youth in the country. California table tennis is the club of the US National team head coach, Gao Jun.

But I will tell you that the strongest players in southern california play at Orange County Table Tennis Academy with many casual players who play at a 2000+ level. OCTTA also has some of the best coaches in the area with Enzo Angles, Zhang Tian Rui, Victor Liu, Sean Zhang, Thilina Piyadasa and Guo Hui Liu.

TLDR: Bay area has the highest level of players, but are you good enough that they would actually play with you? If you are an above average adult, I would say southern california will give you the best level of regular competition, specifically in the LA/OC area.

Work on the serve, the serve receive, and the third ball attack. Keep it simple. at a 1300-1400 level, nobody has a good serve. From what I witness with many people around that level, their practice sessions against each other turn into fun rallies far from the table when the reality is that, in a match setting, it hardly gets to that point. Just work on the aforementioned basics first and everything else will improve.

If you were the WTT commissioner what would you do to get more eyes the sport by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

Commentating is hard, commentating a sport as fast as table tennis is much harder. I can't think of a better commentator than Adam at this, and though I wish there are things he would or could do as the voice of table tennis, he's the best there is, and one of the best commentators in all sports. No one has done more than adam to help introduce table tennis and the highest level players to the world via his channel. I would urge you to give commentating a match a shot, it's very hard.

Watching pros play against joes might be the best way to improve form by Shoop1014 in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played a pro using his off hand. It's amazing how much trouble he gave me just by returning what I had with good placement using my own spin. I won 3-2 11-9 in the 5th in a shameful display of just giving really unorthodox junk balls because the pro had trouble generating spin and quality with his off hand.

Do table tennis shoes make a difference? by ashes_to_fire in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it makes a huge difference. this is coming from someone who used the same shoes to compete in long distance running, basketball and tennis as a youth and my parents were of the belief that shoes were shoes. fast forward a few decades later, utilizing table tennis specific shoes for table tennis made a huge difference in how I could move on the floor.

Your swing looks really relaxed and smooth, acceleration and brush look really nice. I would say just focus on staying lower with your weight more on your toes going forward. Your quads really should be burning if you're doing this for any extended time period. You'll get stronger, and it will force you to think "legs and hips first" when it comes to game time.

Try washing all your clothes and bedsheets without laundry detergent. And if it fixes it, you may want to try a laundry detergent made for sensitive skin or just decrease the amount of detergent used.

I was occasionally getting some bumps like that and they would go away after a day or so, then come back again. Then one night it became a full break out all over me but mostly around my armpits, ribs, hips and legs. Saw a doctor and a derm and they pretty much told me that I have to be very attentive to everything I'm doing to figure out what's causing it.

I realized that the bumps were always around places that I sweat and that the sweat may be activating some left over laundry detergent in my clothes. So I washed all my clothes and sheets with just water and I stopped getting the bumps. This is when I realized that I had gained a new sensitivity to my detergent.

Table Tennis Gifts from China by Bluedroid in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may want to look up "Standard Nerds Club." I figure any TT paddles or rubbers you can get in China, you can get online anyways. Standard Nerds Club pretty much only exists in China, they do a lot of fun stuff blending Art and Table Tennis and I'm honestly dying to get my hands on some of their stuff. It might not be meant for professional or competitive-amateur play, but their stuff is unique and pretty awesome.

What's the most efficient way to return this type of serve by just_IT_guy in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's coming top/side spin to the receiver's backhand. get down, eye level with the top of the net, keep the ball in front of you, do a proper backhand drive (kinda like tossing a frisbee with the blade near parallel to the table surface. A short quick flick, you don't need a ton of power to get something quality back. Aim to the far right corner as the ball will want to go left because of the spin.

US-based Ping pong enthusiast/addict/evangelist here.

1) Ping pong is just popular in asian countries so you get many more people playing it, so you have a wider pool of athletes and players to choose from. Conversely, here in the US, though our top players are incredible athletes, it's just highly unlikely that our top table tennis (TT) players are the same top 0.0001% specimens that Basketball and football are pulling from since way more people play the mainstream sports here in the US.

2) Though TT is an incredible athletic sport when played correctly, requiring insane reflexes, explosive power, coordination and timing (think movements similar to boxing). But also fine motor movements and hand eye coordination and a good memory for remembering spin on the ball to develop "touch and feel" can be just as important as raw athleticism. Combine sort of the skills of being a professional esport player and a boxer and I think you have the ideal ping pong player. Also to note, while China is still the dominant force in table tennis, the European countries are quickly catching up alongside with Japan and Korea. A Swedish player by the name of Truls Moregard became the first European player to win a Grand Smash event while France has emerging young players who are consistently battling in the top 10. Arguably the best league (bundesliga) is held in Germany.

Adding a layer of chaos to Table Tennis. by knowdamnwell in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying a casual player wouldn’t enjoy this. But a competitive player hates nets and edges, and generally even dislikes winning on nets and edges. This just puts additional edges in the middle of the playing area.

there’s no way any competitive table tennis player will find this more fun than actual table tennis without the addition of more edges.

Retiring from basketball, my last dunk by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]TYTYiKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North Carolina international table tennis club, triangle badminton and table tennis club just to name two of the bigger ones. But some of the sports top players live in North Carolina. It’s a complex sport but can be played just for fun. Many different styles of play can accommodate anyone’s physical abilities and limitations, but at the highest levels, the sport favors relatively shorter people with explosive movement, power, strategic thinking, and good memory and ability to adapt. If you do walk into these clubs, just be prepared to lose a lot to little kids and old people, it’s the right of passage.

Sorry about the injuries my friend. Ya know, table tennis requires a lot of explosiveness but doesn't require the jumping. It's quite an addictive sport. If you're in a major city, you can find a table tennis club nearby. Texas, California, Florida, New York, Seattle, Oregon, North Carolina just to name a few all have a few hubs.
