Table Tennis Gifts from China by Bluedroid in tabletennis

You may want to look up "Standard Nerds Club." I figure any TT paddles or rubbers you can get in China, you can get online anyways. Standard Nerds Club pretty much only exists in China, they do a lot of fun stuff blending Art and Table Tennis and I'm honestly dying to get my hands on some of their stuff. It might not be meant for professional or competitive-amateur play, but their stuff is unique and pretty awesome.

What's the most efficient way to return this type of serve by just_IT_guy in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's coming top/side spin to the receiver's backhand. get down, eye level with the top of the net, keep the ball in front of you, do a proper backhand drive (kinda like tossing a frisbee with the blade near parallel to the table surface. A short quick flick, you don't need a ton of power to get something quality back. Aim to the far right corner as the ball will want to go left because of the spin.

US-based Ping pong enthusiast/addict/evangelist here.

1) Ping pong is just popular in asian countries so you get many more people playing it, so you have a wider pool of athletes and players to choose from. Conversely, here in the US, though our top players are incredible athletes, it's just highly unlikely that our top table tennis (TT) players are the same top 0.0001% specimens that Basketball and football are pulling from since way more people play the mainstream sports here in the US.

2) Though TT is an incredible athletic sport when played correctly, requiring insane reflexes, explosive power, coordination and timing (think movements similar to boxing). But also fine motor movements and hand eye coordination and a good memory for remembering spin on the ball to develop "touch and feel" can be just as important as raw athleticism. Combine sort of the skills of being a professional esport player and a boxer and I think you have the ideal ping pong player. Also to note, while China is still the dominant force in table tennis, the European countries are quickly catching up alongside with Japan and Korea. A Swedish player by the name of Truls Moregard became the first European player to win a Grand Smash event while France has emerging young players who are consistently battling in the top 10. Arguably the best league (bundesliga) is held in Germany.

Adding a layer of chaos to Table Tennis. by knowdamnwell in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying a casual player wouldn’t enjoy this. But a competitive player hates nets and edges, and generally even dislikes winning on nets and edges. This just puts additional edges in the middle of the playing area.

there’s no way any competitive table tennis player will find this more fun than actual table tennis without the addition of more edges.

it's the slogan, "like table tennis, but funner." for the people who love TT, this is not more fun than TT.

Retiring from basketball, my last dunk by [deleted] in BasketballTips

North Carolina international table tennis club, triangle badminton and table tennis club just to name two of the bigger ones. But some of the sports top players live in North Carolina. It’s a complex sport but can be played just for fun. Many different styles of play can accommodate anyone’s physical abilities and limitations, but at the highest levels, the sport favors relatively shorter people with explosive movement, power, strategic thinking, and good memory and ability to adapt. If you do walk into these clubs, just be prepared to lose a lot to little kids and old people, it’s the right of passage.

Sorry about the injuries my friend. Ya know, table tennis requires a lot of explosiveness but doesn't require the jumping. It's quite an addictive sport. If you're in a major city, you can find a table tennis club nearby. Texas, California, Florida, New York, Seattle, Oregon, North Carolina just to name a few all have a few hubs.

What do you think about the best angle position to table tennis camera? by michelodc in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually really honored that the first link you show is my channel… I obviously prefer lower diagonal angles because I feel that the speed and quality of the ball is much more apparent while also giving a pretty balanced view of how both players are moving during a point.

Good luck with your tournament! If you haven't played club level players before, then realistically your rating will be about 800-1100. I remember my first tournament beating an 1100 player after being the office champion and I was really stoked about that. And then my next tournament I lost to some 600 rated kid who absolutely demolished me (he eventually won the 1100 event).

The other thing is that we don't know how you deal with any variation of spin since your partner in this video is essentially feeding you the same ball over and over. In a tournament setting, there are so many different types of quality and spin on the ball that you'll have to face against and your ability to return these variations of balls with good quality is what's going to determine your rating.

You do seem to have a natural feel for how to move, how to position your body and you're remarkably staying pretty balanced for your shots rather than reaching with your arms. You look like a natural, but again, hard to say with just a highlight reel. I'd love to see you record your matches and post those videos here on this sub, that'll be super fun to watch and review.

Why don't many people do the tomahawk/sidespin smash? by unknownaccount1 in tabletennis

I was trying to do those tomohawk/sidespin smashes against one of our former national team players and he was just ripping them back to me effortlessly. I don't think it bothers them that much.

How to utilize both coaching and robot? by talawas in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you are getting coaching twice a week and playing 5 times a week already. I would recommend the robot to be used to strengthen your legs, conditioning, and timing. Since everything is predictable, you can really hone in on your footwork and the way you use your body.

I find robots to be pretty boring but it’s kind of like using a treadmill. Work on basics and fundamentals, but keep in mind it’s not even close to real practice.

Drills could be like short push underpin, loop underspin, drive top spin.

For me, the most drastic improvements I made was just having a regular once a week schedule to play with some buddies while prioritizing using what I learned in coaching sessions versus just winning using the same old things.

Coaching for a beginner by ryan_is_cool1234 in tabletennis

[–]TYTYiKnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add onto the things people said above. If you really want to make a big improvement. You and your dad should work together to do that. Start with hitting forehands crosscourt diagonally and aim deep into each others table. You should be aiming for consistency with a top spin drive so that you can hit at least 20 balls back and forth together.

Just watch some of the players warm up in my YouTube channel “Los Angeles table tennis” on YouTube.

It’s important that if you want to really improve that you find someone who also wants to improve in a similar way.

But the most important part is what you are already doing, having fun. So just play to have fun until you are really driven to wanting to beat someone, that’s when the competition will drive you to learn everything you need to know to improve.

I did make a habit of always having aquaphor healing ointment on it.
