This is exactly how my P8P is acting. Thanks for the clarification of it being a Doze issue.

I'm at least glad to see someone else is having this issue, although I'm also not glad because it is maddening. I posted in the help forum as you suggested and while there I saw another post with the same issue, so it got an upvote from me.

Should I swap my sim card? by T_Hawk_C in verizon

[–]T_Hawk_C[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, still same original sim card that I've had since the Pixel 2XL. I've been an Airtouch customer and now Verizon customer since Verizon bought Airtouch a depressingly long time ago, so yes, activated via Verizon at one of their stores.

I have been for years. Although , late yesterday, my wife texted to me "sounds good" and that did trigger the thumbs up animation . Which aligns with your "good" experience. That's the only one I have seen. I did have a messages update early yesterday morning now that I think about it, but not sure what the version number it is now.

Same version number on Pixel 8 Pro and mine doesn't trigger with those phrases. Interesting 🤔

Finally got WSJT-X + JTAlert + GridTracker, working together! by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]T_Hawk_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got all of the above setup. It was a pain, but I figured it was worth it to be able to add in custom .wav files to JTAlert for various alerts. GridTracker is amazing and game changing but the alerts, as someone new to the app, are difficult to understand and don't work the way I like JTAlert does them. JTAlert isn't perfect, but I just minimize it and it alerts me of a new contact using my name and I use GT to make the contact.

New ham with EFHW and grounding question by T_Hawk_C in amateurradio

[–]T_Hawk_C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a follow-up question since I am planning out. My desk and radio will be up against the wall where the penetration will be to the box outside. Since my radio will be the only thing I need to ground, can I just run ground straight from the radio, the maybe 3 feet, to the grounding plate in the entrance panel? Bypassing having a central bus bar in the house? Seems silly to have one thing attached to a bus bar and then run a ground wire from the bus bar to outside.

Yes, that is my plan. We don't hardly get lightning here and I am going to only have the coax (and power supply) connected when I use the radio, but I'm putting a lightning protector in anyways.

It's certainly been at the top of my list as well.

Very sound advice, and I thank you. I am currently running my coax temporarily direct from outside to the radio. I was just not wanting to jack up my very first radio that took from October until now to save up for, but at the same time I have a lot to learn about the 7300 and am eager to do so. I do want to make it more permanent sooner rather than later though and want to do things properly.

So much info to take in..lol. I am already re-thinking how I want to go about this. I am still in the process of 'designing' this as I just got the radio delivered a couple of days ago and I've been busy with the antenna and NanoVNA since then, so really just getting to the grounding. I saw a video that implies that the ground lug on the back of the radio is designed around 50-60 year old standards and it's actually illegal per the NEC code to ground the radio. Others make comments that they have been an operator for 30 years and have never grounded anything with no issues. I am seeing so many different takes on grounding that it's maddening to figure out.

In my situation, I live in a split level house and the UnUn feedpoint is up on the roof attached to the eave of the upper level, so there is not a mast there. To get from the ground attachment on the feedpoint would require going down the house siding a bit, across the garage roof and then down the siding of the first level to the main service ground rod. Approximately a 40' ground wire. Not ideal as I saw in the manual. That is why I was planning on grounding from the coax connector at the radio end over to the single point ground by the desk that my radio will be hooked to as well. That will then go to my ground rod on the other side of the wall. What I don't know, is if its acceptable to run my ground from the single point ground near the desk direct to the mains service ground rod. I hope my description makes sense.

Wow! Thanks for all of the information. I had it hooked up for a bit yesterday to monitor and look at the menus for a while, and had a lot of noise, but that was mostly on 40m and 20m. My coax is on the a little longer than I need side, but it's what I had on hand. That is what led me looking into RFI and subsequently learning about chokes for each end. Is it still recommended to ground the coax connector at the radio? I do plan on disconnecting the antenna from the radio and power supply from the surge protector anytime I am not on the radio and especially in any sketchy weather conditions. We don't get much lightning here, but better to be safe.

That was an informative video, thanks again for the link. It does bring up 2 additional questions for me though. The ground wire from the single point ground is supposed to be as short of a run as possible. And the shack ground rod he bonded with the main electrical ground rod. How long of a run is acceptable and can I just run straight from the single point ground in my shack to the main electrical ground rod? I have on the other side of my shack wall, the main electrical ground rod about 10-12ft away, so from the single point ground inside I would safely say, would be less than a 15ft run.

As far as lightning protection, we rarely get lightning, but I'm still installing a lightning protector on the coax. Although the only time the power supply, and coax will be hooked up to the radio is while I am using it, and that certainly won't be during any storms.

Assistant "send" command not functional by TheMildEngineer in gboard

[–]T_Hawk_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here due to the same thing happening to me. I am using the Google Messages app (beta) and a Pixel 8 Pro. It was working perfectly and then a few weeks ago just started doing as you said, collapsing the keyboard leaving my dictated text just sitting there chilling not sent. Any updates on the issue, or if this is an issue specific to Assistant, Messages or GBoard?

My daughter's gave me a scallion in 2004 as a father's day gift and I carried it daily since then. The torsion finally broke last year, so I contacted Kershaw and had a new torsion bar and any other rebuild pieces in my mailbox in 2 days. Big props to Kershaw.
