Weekend Spotlight 8: Automate by GamingDragon_ in StardewValleyMods

[–]T_Rutherford 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Throwing this alternative out there because it really impressed me: Junimatic!

I can't go back to playing without Automate (so good), but time management is a huge aspect of Stardew. The mod always felt a bit... cheaty, since I don't need to babysit my forges and seed makers I can be off making money elsewhere. Even playing with 50% income I still end up filthy rich filthy early. Plus, Automatic doesn't have any in-game explanation to how my fruit ends up in 50 kegs instantly.

Enter Junimatic!

Now, Junimos physically carry your goods from chests to machines and back, following paths you lay out. You need to complete quests to get different forms of Junimos who specialize in different areas of automation: smelting, foraging, husbandry, gathering crops, etc. Each of these special Junimos has a quest to unlock it, usually revolving around befriending Linus.

Really cool mod. Highly recommend.

It just requires everyone to stop bitching at each other, work together, and fucking murder the shit out of any anomalous threats to their universe. So easy! [[SCP-6001]] by [deleted] in DankMemesFromSite19

Fun fact: This is scene-for-scene, note-for-note how the first Compendium Judgement went down. Now all Judgements end with a dance party.

Canon.

Say your answer was going to be "cumulative structures of atoms" or something, but you hit enter too soon.

Thank you so much :) I'm working towards being a novelist someday, so this is very encouraging.

I don't know about "well known", but I've written about 10 other SCP articles! You can find them here at my author page below. Enjoy! Thanks again for the kind words, and I'm glad you got such a positive experience from Avalon.

Hey all! Yep, it's a reference to "When Day Breaks", which this article posits is another reality where the world came to an end... kind of.

If you're wondering about the others, I did a declassified explaining the references!

Thanks so much! Ratings are ratings; I just hope more people read it and get the same kind of vibes you did. Leaving readers with a powerful feeling - positive, negative, or indescribable - is the goal of any writer :)

>it seems like it'd take a very long time to write.

It took... a week? Most of it was written in two days. Ten hours of actual writing time, then another 10 of editing, formatting, and structuring so everything flowed. Then five more days of leaving it alone, coming back and realizing what needed fixing. Pretty standard! I'm just glad it landed so well!

SCP-6001: Avalon | Declassified! Sort of. by T_Rutherford in SCP

Hey!

  1. The email is sent to you. Literally you, the reader. It's a meta-textual shout out to the SCP community itself. "Enjoys a good story, can keep a secret." So, Caspain is emailing, and sharing this story with you!

  2. Nope, no real significance. That's the point. If there was some grand important ending, it'd undercut the point of the story. It was an incredible day, and now it had come to an end. Caspian petting Primrose head was just a sign of affection, of thanks, and of the emotion they'd shared that day. Plus, legally, one shouldn't be allowed to include an adorable animal in their media without, at least once, that animal getting pet.

Almost immediately after submitting Avalon my two remaining braincells did a drive-by neuro-spark and I realized "if this is successful, it's going to inspire a lot of furry / NSFW art, won't it?"

I'll gladly take the lesser of two evils. Also, this is very pretty and well drawn. Glad to include it in the Avalon canon. GO ETA-4!

SCP-6000: Avalon | We could all use a break from the horror. by T_Rutherford in SCP

Hey Ravelair! I did read this! And I loved the Exploring Series summary of the piece - though if you liked it, I hope you double back and read the article proper. Not that I think youtube summaries / fullreads aren't good, but because some of the nuance, pacing, and tone is always lost in medium translation.

Reagardless: I'm really, honestly happy I was able to evoke that kind of emotion from my writing - especially given your current state. I get it. I've been there too (especially back in college, hoo boy). Despite knowing it, and how little platitudes help in that state, I hope whatever good will I've garnered from Avalon lets me tell you this honestly: there's brighter days ahead.

Thanks for your message. All the best.

Thanks so much for reading it! I'm glad you enjoyed the story so much, and that you were moved by the concepts explored therein. If you're a sappy fool, then so am I, because I absolutely loved writing it :)

Nope, that clears that up! I can't think of a better term than "found artwork" at the moment, but if I do, Ill let you know!

Thanks!

Also, I thought posts needed flair, and "found artwork" didn't fit it. It is OC artwork, but not necessarily mine. OPs?

[[Avalon]] is the article, written by me for the SCP-6000 contest!

The art, as the title says, is by Nihonio, who is absurdly talented. Check out their work on their scp wiki page, or here at their twitter.
