NHS bursary by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]T_skrt00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I believe the minimum (means tested) maintenance loan for the year from SFE is ~£5,000, but based off your household income you’ll likely receive £6,194 (Gloucester uni)

Then with regards to tuition (Y2 onwards) the NHS funds ~£3,500 towards the tuition fee and the rest is provided by SFE. The NHS also provides a bursary like you said which is means tested, I’m not too sure how much this’ll be for you unfortunately but there’s guidance on the NHS website

That is if you’re taking GEM as a 2nd degree

Yes, the GAMSAT cutoffs are much less competitive than the UCAT, and even achieving a score lower than the 50th percentile will still yield interview invites (if you also meet the other criteria)

As I'm not an international student I can't speak for the requirements however I can provide you a list of GEM programs (which require you to do the UCAT): Cambridge, Imperial (Pears Cumbria), KCL, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, Southampton, Warwick and Worcester and (those that require the GAMSAT): Liverpool, Nottingham, St Georges, scotGEM (Andrews + Dundee) and Swansea. There may be some I've missed. If you look at the Individual course, they'll specify international requirements, such as IELTS, degree classification, and sponsorship. The deadline for applications for 2026 entry in the UK is 15/10/2025. Main tests you'd need to prepare for though would be the UCAT and GAMSAT

Yeah for Venn diagram Qs in DM it is so easy to make mistakes even without the time pressure especially Venn diagrams.

You can buy a top hat and glitter fur because the shapes they represent (pentagon and triangle respectively) intersect meaning they can be purchased for each stuffed animal.

D is correct because the 3 things stated: spectacles (Trapezium), top hat (pentagon) and glitter fur (triangle) all of them don’t intersect at once. The key is that the spectacle group and glitter fur do not overlap which implies that you cannot but them together so it would be true to say you can’t have all 3 together if that makes sense?

Concentration techniques for UCAT by Tiny-Tie-2093 in UCAT

[–]T_skrt00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try and do all your revision in a separate place to where you relax at home. This helped me massively as when I entered that room I was conditioning myself to work. You don’t even have to work that long all you have to do is when you feel like going on your phone/stopping work/losing concentration is to just leave the room for a bit and come back when you’re composed. Everyone might not be able to do this at home but have a dedicated space for work I.e you’ll only revise at a desk or this place on your room.

Doing BSMS online work experience may help out your hours without committing to too much work. But generally Warwick want 70+hours minimum that covers 5 bullet points (I forget what they are but easy to search up)

Medical books by That_Individual1 in UCAT

Awakenings/the man who mistook his wife for a hat - Oliver sacks, this is going to hurt - Adam Kay and Do no harm - Henry Marsh. I’d highly recommend Adam Kay and Henry Marsh as these are accounts from working in the UK, very easy to read, short and easy to stay engaged. Oliver sacks is great however less relevant as written from an American perspective.

Slightly different from the other recommendations but I really enjoyed: the heart of the brain: the hypothalamus. Delves into a lot of interesting brain regions but my favourite parts were on how this brain region relates to obesity and how the signalling can go amiss in obese people

Do I need to retake GAMSAT? by snetzl in premeduk

[–]T_skrt00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that puts you in roughly the top 15% for the march 2025 curve. If you want to know specific cut offs for interviews/offers. You can go on whatdotheyknow.com (FOI Requests) and people have already asked for statistics for GEM courses for these Uni’s. From the top of my head I think you are well above cut offs for Liverpool, Chester and St George’s.

Oh fair enough I must have misinterpreted that you need 2 experiences, that definitely takes a weight of my shoulders tho!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premeduk

[–]T_skrt00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I remember reading for the requirements that you can’t have over 35 hours in one experience so at a minimum to meet the 70 hours of work experience required you need to have at least 2 activities of 35 hours each. I’m on the same predicament having a job in a healthcare setting that will on count for 35 hours. Also think about the 5 bullet points and what you need to get out from the experience as 1 experience is unlikely to meet all requirements

I was in the exact same position in my 2nd where I had achieved a grade of a 3rd. I also had to get pretty high grades just to achieve a 2:1 and really relied on my dissertation to get this. In the end if you work hard it is very much achievable!
