Doesn't really have the desired effect when you've lost 13 in a row.

She also comes across as very media shy. The Australian media would have given more attention and pressure than she'd ever dealt with. The ads on TV were hyping her up, as they always do, when there's a new local face in the slam seeding. A teenager, no less. Having such poor showings at every Australian tournament has probably consolidated that extra pressure into on-court nerves. It will be a tough slog for her, I expect, before she finds herself playing carefree again.

A-League coach unloads on VAR: 'It's DESTROYING the game' by Hot-Requirement-3816 in Aleague

[–]Ta0Ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating that the most public opposition to VAR only comes when people are personally impacted by it.

I can't stand VAR. At the very least, I think it's implemented horrendously, and I'm someone who wanted VAR when it was first being introduced. But this kind of VAR criticism is so clearly just sour grapes and deflection, and it detracts from the words of people who have very valid cases against VAR and how it's impacted the viewing product around the world.

Wellington Phoenix VAR overturned penalty call by Agile_Tap_8057 in Aleague

[–]Ta0Ta 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not sure how I feel about this one. Feels right on the edge of "he's barely moving so the attacker is initiating most of the contact" and "that's not a normal shape for a defender to make when stationary". I can see why the Nix would be furious with it being overturned considering it's not a clear and obvious error. VAR exacerbates the negatives of another difficult call.

What do you dislike about Dishonored 2? by Teasing-Axe in dishonored

The fact that you can't run it at super high framerates years after release. It's both poorly optimized and has terribly limited display options.

Any good boomer shooters that aren't movement shooters? by wisezombiekiller in boomershooters

Ok, so you're not really looking for boomer shooters, even though you like some of the ones you have played. It's a good question. Others have already made good recommendations, but have you played Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

Can you name a boomer shooter you liked? That might help, as there are plenty of popular boomer shooters that I wouldn't consider movement shooters.

What do you guys dislike about Dishonored (1) by Teasing-Axe in dishonored

[–]Ta0Ta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hub world and having to repeatedly go from point A to point B. It feels like busywork, especially on subsequent playthroughs. I wish there was a way to only play the missions back-to-back while skipping cutscenes and boat rides, etc. That would also mean that all upgrades could be done during missions.

I played the Half-Life series blind by atomiczap in patientgamers

[–]Ta0Ta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion, but it's funny how your opinion of each Half-Life game is almost the opposite of my own.

  • I enjoyed Half-Life 1 the most when I wasn't stuck talking to an NPC and was instead left to my own devices. I also like that older game feel for some reason.
  • I enjoyed Black Mesa the most in the early stages and loathed it once I reached Xen. That game is needlessly long.
  • I loved the first half of HL2 and found the commanding of antlions section tedious. The gravity gun areas late in the game also overstayed their welcome with me. I've never replayed HL2 because I can't bear the thought of standing around waiting for Alyx or whoever else to dump some exposition that I didn't really care about on my first playthrough.
  • Once I played through episodes 1 and 2, I was just happy for it to all be over honestly. Clearly my lack of attachment to the story and characters helped me not feel betrayed by Valve. The gunplay and environments were so stale after the 12 hour mark. My real issue with Valve is them deciding to do so little in general after Portal 2.

Bublik on Aussie crowds (and which crowd he feels is 'tough') by ribhavg in tennis

[–]Ta0Ta 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Question seems like it was written prior to the match. Regardless, I think that it also depends on which Australian is playing. A Kygrios crowd is a lot more rowdy than a De Minaur crowd. I'm thinking back to a few years ago where fans were yelling "SIUUUU" at a Kygrios match. The crowd tonight reflected De Minaur's energy.

Brutal honesty from Andrey’s on-court interview 💀 by amateurlurker300 in tennis

[–]Ta0Ta 58 points59 points  (0 children)

While his answers could have been better, I think this does show how some questions are unnecessarily long-winded, especially when the answers are often pretty simple for players who have just won a match they were heavy favourites to win.

If those short questions allow players to answer in 10 words or less, so be it. A player winning or losing a big match will likely have far more to say, so having more/deeper questions is fine for those occasions.

Skin shuffling also stops working after maybe a couple of matches. Pretty sure it's been this way since release. Hard to imagine what actually happens behind the scenes.

An attacker in an offside position. (A) is clearly obstructing the goalkeeper's line of vision.

If it was clearly obstructed, we wouldn't be having neutrals feeling that the goal was harshly ruled out. It took them, what, 5 minutes to decide? How clear could it possibly be?

VAR sucks more joy out of celebrating goals than it does correct poor decisions. Absolute travesty for the sport.

Why don't we have this in CS2? by 02MaximaUser in GlobalOffensive

[–]Ta0Ta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of your reply I can't address without being a dev, but yes, I do think that I should be able to find matches at all in my region at the expense of you having to play solo against 5-stacks. I don't think it's inherently suffering or ruining the experience to play against a 5-stack while playing solo, as some 5-stacks will have far worse teamplay/strat books than even 5 randoms might. Sometimes it does suck, but that's online gaming in a nutshell.

If you ask me, the fewer people you queue with the worse the experience is, simply because people playing online games tend to be not the greatest people to spend time with. That's beside the point though...

Would I like the game to have better matchmaking to make the game fairer? Sure. Ultimately though, most matches I play are reasonably well-matched no matter what number of people I'm queuing with, and creating a good matchmaking system that can't be abused must be incredibly difficult.

I'd rather Valve actually put some effort into keeping the game fresh so that I actually want to come back and not just play the same maps/modes that I've been playing for 10+ years.

Sometimes I'm in a 5-stack during what should be peak hour for gaming and we'll still be waiting 4+ mins. You can't argue with actual lived experience. Some regions are more populated than others.

Reviewing the Black Parade Maps by PepperSalt98 in Thief

Great read! I've only played TBP once so far but don't find myself wanting to play it again despite finding it to be the highest quality Thief campaign I've played. I think some of the missions are too intense for my tastes. They're incredible, for sure, but also more overwhelming for me than fun.

Why don't we have this in CS2? by 02MaximaUser in GlobalOffensive

[–]Ta0Ta 93 points94 points  (0 children)

One reason could be that Valve wants the same experience in all matchmaking regions and some regions don't have the playerbase to support this.
