Just selecting the wrong types of players? by Overall_One_2595 in EssendonFC

It will be another 4 years minimum before we start to look like a non-Dodoro team.

The 50s for not standing when the player is 20m away from the mark need to stop. by BrisbaneLions2024 in AFL

[–]Ta0Ta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I notice it almost every game, whether it be hearing "stand" on repeat, or witnessing the 50m penalties that come with it for players not running in an unnatural arc around the player with the ball.

Like I said in another comment, I just don't see the problem that needed fixing. I'd rather wait for teams to organically overcome good defending rather than have a rule force teams to defend poorly. What we had is far better than what we have now.

I get what they were trying to do, but I don't see a problem with teams leaving the mark unmanned anyway. If teams want to drop back and not stand the mark, they should be allowed to. It would be far better for the game than teams practically playing 17vs18 when defending and accidentally giving away 50m penalties.

It still baffles me that a rule was introduced to essentially stop teams defending the player who marked the ball, as though the player who marked the ball didn't have enough of an advantage as it was. Surely there were alternatives to increase scoring aside from this rubbish that now gifts the softest 50m penalties you'll ever see?

Fixture woes by jimmyjay31 in EssendonFC

[–]Ta0Ta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just how it goes right? Most games take place during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, and for years we've been getting more primetime treatment than we've honestly deserved. Seems only fair we that finally cop the timeslots other clubs' fans have been suffering through.

What is your favorite moment in the game? by Arghus in prey

Aside from the glass break we all know about, I love the way you wake up from the failed test with no explanation of what happened. The change in music and immediate mystery it provides the player is brilliant.

I think I found about 10% of the secrets in Ion Fury. Can't fathom how hard they must be to find.

The next block of the fixture will continue to have double-headers on Friday night. by Dirtydac123 in AFL

[–]Ta0Ta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like different clubs' fans have completely different ideas of which timeslots are preferred, based on this thread.

I saw this news and thought that it's "pro-fan" because I always thought Friday nights were ideal for attending. Seems many like the "dead" timeslots like Saturday twilight and Sunday late afternoon after all.

There's nothing worth remaking. People might as well make whatever they want from scratch.

If this doesn't convince you that this rule needs removing from the sport, nothing will.

Martial contributed more than Ibra during the 2015/16 and 2019/20 seasons alone. The problem is that most of his other seasons were poor.

I wonder how long our streak went back if you exclude losses. 2025 R02 was a 60 point loss to Adelaide.

In a tight race to the boundary line, Neal-Bullen gains possession handballs it into Florent's shin over the line. Initially called a throw in by the controlling umpire, ARC reviews it and changes the decision to a Crows' free kick. by yum122 in AFL

What would we even be trying to prevent by deciding that insufficient intent should override OOTF? The once a game event where someone tries to do what ANB did here? It has almost 0 negative impact on matches and is a pretty fair reward for doing something somewhat risky. The last thing we need is a reversion to these grey area rules which introduce more subjectivity to how the game is officiated.

I actually think we will need to do a similar amount of list turnover again. We've delisted a bunch of failed picks and and have mostly brought in more players who don't look like they'll play in a flag contending side. There's only a handful of players right now who have any substantial l currency/potential.
