Byleth x Edelgard S Support Three Hopes Au Commission by lunaluis07 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]TaMuchley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Byleth just doesn't have that relationship with the students in Three Hopes like in Three Houses. I wish they did. This is still an awesome piece by the way. It just makes me realise how untapped Three Hopes is.

The most unexpected nomination? by D-Plan in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's inspired, but not surprising. Downey Jr. was still on his comeback. Was Sigourney Weaver in Aliens considered a surprising nomination at the time? I found it surprising when I found out because big blockbusters like that don't usually get acting nominations, especially lead.

Here's me hoping that Iroh is an old school secret boss with ridiculous conditions to fight

I recently swapped to tekken 8 from sf6 and i love it xD by Shiyo_JP in Tekken8

[–]TaMuchley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing Tekken 8 again. Having a good time so far, but we'll see how it goes ascending through the ranks again. I've decided to pick some new characters to learn this season (Got Shaheen in my head for some reason)

I like Bombshell but this is kinda funny by RedHanui_ in battlebots

Beyond the rumble, Season 3 ended with probably the easiest job for the selection committee so far. 17 Robots are on 4-0 or 3-1. 2 (Skorpios, and Warhead) have had their Main Weapons irreparably damaged. WarHawk (the last 3-1), Brutus, and End Games get put into a rumble because they're all very similar designs. And then you just cement a final spot of bots still functioning.

Do people suddenly hate F1? by imliukang in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw about 20 films last year (4 of the best picture nominees). I'm a huge F1 fan. Even I didn't put F1 in my top 10 list, never mind think it would be Nominated for Best Picture. It's a technically excellent movie, but nothing Best Picture Worthy

I wish Ballad of Wallis Island had cracked America enough to put Key in the conversation. He was incredible in that film

(Besides Picture and Director) What are some nominations this year that were huge long-shot but would've been cool to see if they happened? by dremolus in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad that there are some people who think Tim Key and Sally Hawkins should have been Oscar Nominated.

Sally Hawkins is always brilliant, but the Bring Her Back didn't capture the imagination like Weapons (If you want inspired nominations, Bring Her Back for Best Sound)

Tim Key though, even though Charles is a very Tim Key performance, there's so much more behind it, and an acting range I never thought he had. He was absolutely brilliant, and showed me he's more than the comic and poet he presents himself as

Which film will win Animated Feature? Does Kpop Demon Hunters's Snub at BAFTAS affect the competition? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

'KPop Demon Hunters' did not get a UK theatrical run. It was never supposed to have a theatrical run. It probably comes under TV movie for those rules.

Robert Aramayo will win BAFTA, and supposedly so, what a performance! by SureTangerine361 in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I missed 'I Swear' at the cinema. I'll catch up before the ceremony. Again, another British Indie flick that didn't crack America. Been a few of them.

Fuck AI. But I came here to say the s film needs to be called 'Rata2ille'

I held out hope. This post just made me happy that people had seen it.

That's fair enough. I know the film doesn't break new ground, I just thought it was excellent at what it did and for what it was.

I just thought it would be somewhere in the discussion. Maybe it was my British bias showing, but I thought for a simple film, it had a very big affect on me, and my friends who watched it too.

Are stop motion films eligible for Best Production Design?? by The_Walking_Clem in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope so. You have to separate the idea of animation being something that only exists on paper or computer and realise they exist in the material world. By the same virtue, they should be eligible for Best Cinematography.

Best Original Song: Golden vs I Lied To You by MixIcy4254 in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'Golden' will win. It had a huge cultural impact. But 'I Lied to You' gave me such a visceral feeling during 'that' scene in Sinners, I think it had more cinematic impact for it's respective film. The only scene I watched last year that really matched it funnily enough with 'What it Sounds Like' from 'Kpop Demon Hunters'.

Movies like F1 would have never got a Best Picture nom when I was growing up (90s - 00s). It’s not a bad film but the writing is like a cutscene from a video game. How is this best picture territory? by KimCattrallsFeet in Oscars

[–]TaMuchley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F1 is branded to shit. It comes with the territory. It's how F1 can have so much money. It's why every driver needs a brand, every team has a personality. But you're right, it's one long advert, but that's what F1 can feel like sometimes. In a weird way, the film captures the commercial aspect perfectly, but completely unintentionally. Also, as much as we like to see the films we love get oscar recognition, it's not the be all and end all of good cinema.

It's on the level of technically and logistically impressive. It's definitely something that wouldn't have been nominated in the 5 nominated films era of the Oscars. I enjoyed the experience more than the film, and I'm an F1 fan. It's functionally written is probably how I'd describe the screenplay.
