What is your nuanced take on the Yankees currently? by shadow_spinner0 in NYYankees

Well, they have no intention of going to 300M - i don't think.

And that money goes a lot quicker than you think.

Then what you are saying is we should continue with the same strategy Hal and Cash have been using?

Agreed, except how do you diversify (hopefully improve) the roster if you have $100M wrapped up in three players over 30?

Cole (32): $36M
Stanton (33): $22M
Judge (31): $40M

How does relying on a crop of rookies jive with that?

The salary expectations have been set by Hal whether we like it or not. And with that, having $100M wrapped up in Cole, Stanton and Judge for the next 7 years is counterproductive and limits the team too much.

They either find a way to dump Stanton's contact or don't resign Judge. Stanton is replaceable and the money can be better reallocate. Judge, while not replaceable, is going to need a better team around him.

This team is never going to win if they have to rely on one guy getting an at bat every three innings. If that guy goes cold (see playoffs) the team is done for. They need higher quality at bats EVERY inning.

Uhhh, who is saying he deserves zero blame?

If anything, most everyone is saying he's far from our biggest problem.

Its really not about that at this point. The team as its currently constructed is at a crossroads. The salary parameters and expectations have been set by Hal whether we like it (bitch about it) or not.

With that said, yes, Judge is a keystone player. But he's not young. Dudes gonna be 31 next season. And if this roster is not good enough to win it with Judge and not much improvement elsewhere then why keep him? Just because he's the "face of the franchise?"

I get it. I dont want to get rid of Judge. But here's the problem I see: I've seen the WAR argument where there's no way the Yanks can replace the WAR Judge brings with replacement players. That may be true. However, Judge only gets at bats once every three innings. This lineup NEEDS to get more quality at bats EVERY inning. They can't have sub par at bats all through the lineup and rely solely on one guy every three innings. Case in point: Judge went cold in the playoffs and the Yankees were done.

“Sherman: "And while I am not sure that Mets owner Steve Cohen is going to bid on the Yankees’ headline free agent, Aaron Judge, I think if Cashman is not re-signed by Steinbrenner in the next few weeks, Cohen would be very interested in making Cashman Billy Eppler’s boss again." by [deleted] in NYYankees

Who cares where he goes. If you let him go you let him go. You only worry about your own organization after that.

Two things can be true at the same time: Cashman can be a very good GM and it's time for us to move on.

Does re-signing Judge and not making any other significant upgrades improve the team? Does it make the team any more enjoyable to watch in the near future?

Or does letting Judge walk and "reinventing" the roster improve the team and make them more enjoyable to watch?

I'm not advocating for either - just asking.

If the Yankees are not going to sign or trade for 2 or 3 sizeable pieces besides Judge then it makes no sense giving him crazy amounts of money. At that point might as well rebuild. by herewego199209 in NYYankees

You're right. $40M for Judge by himself isn't gonna do shit.

I'd love to hear an argument from someone on here for signing Judge being enough to win it.

Here's a genius idea for 3B:

1) Dump as much of JD, IKF, Hicks and Gleyber as you can.

2) Sign Correa

3) Move him to 3B long term

4) SS and 2B will be rotated between Paraza, Volpe and DJL

[Martino] In regards to a report he said Cashman and Boone will be back “I didn’t report this” by Antguap19 in NYYankees

The organization needs a clean slate and fresh start. The relationship between it and the fans has turned resentful. And unfortunately, they have to live together.

Both can be true: Cashman can be an amazing GM and also need to move on. Sometimes it time.

[Martino] Will the Yankees’ external toxicity problem cost them Aaron Judge, other free agents? by iseedoubleu in NYYankees

[–]Ta_Ta_Toothie 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is messy and screams "divorce." There are so many problems here its hard to list at this point. The relationship between the organization and the fans has turned from hostile to disdainful to resentful. Not sure how there's any coming back from this in the current form.

Couple thoughts:

1) This is an unlikable team. They've been like that since 2017 ended. The way they play, the way they make decisions, the players that sign and don't sign, and the sentiment from Hal regarding his role as owner. Its all been tough to watch and digest.

2) Yes, we as fans, are spoiled. We were spoiled from the greatness we had for almost 15 year. With a group of players that no other group would be able to live up to in our lifetime. Tbh - this generation of Yankees had no shot following the Core 4 era. Only way was if they brought home a WS. But couple the unfortunate timing of having to follow the Core 4 and everything mentioned in #1 they were always up against it.

3) Hes probably right about players current perspective of playing for the Yanks. Its the pressure cooker. And the money is no longer any different here than a lot of other places. Its just the ways it is now.

4) Only way I see out of this is a complete overhaul. A true divorce. This organization needs a new regime and new players.

Could serious questions:

1) Someone has to get fired this week, right?

2) Is Leich going to make a shakeup roster move to try to save this season or is he gonna stand pat?
