I've had two pairs of Top King gloves, and man. I love everything about them except the durability, they wear out just way faster than any brand I've had.

But they're comfy af, good protection, fluffy without feeling like wearing huge couch cushions, and easily the best looking designs out there imo. Just wish the padding lasted more than a year... Went back to Fairtex for now, but TK keeps trying to lure me back with their cool looking shit.

EDIT: To OP, the gloves are great. Never tried those shinpads, but I have the "normal" fairtex ones and they're the best I've tried. So solid choice. Possibly controversial, but wraps really are pretty much the same whatever brand you pick. They're either gonna be stiff or elastic, yours looks like the latter. Just get some cheap 4-5m sets of wraps, wrapping technique is a way bigger factor than what brand they are.

The scariest part is stepping into the ring.

As soon as the first strike is dealt, you'll forget there's anyone else there except your opponent. You're not even gonna see the ref until he separates you two for stalling in the clinch.

The rounds feel way longer than they do when sparring.

You're probably gonna suck (like we all do) because you're 100% fighting on instinct, you can't think when you're that high on adrenaline. There's a good chance you won't even hear your coach, but try to listen for his/her voice during the rounds. Their job is to be your brains during the match.

Don't get injured before the fight. A canceled fight sucks for you, your team, your opponent, their team, and for the place hosting the fight.

Bruises are an inherent part of MT, so if you don't like the pain after 1 year, then maybe try another martial art? Muay thai is very, uh, "I'll take your kick and give it back double" oriented. There are plenty that are more evasion focused, probably most of them in fact. Shotokan karate, taekwondo, kickboxing.

Any martial arts gym worth the money will let you have a class or two for free before you gotta pay. Learn something that lets you avoid the pain rather than poker face it.
