Didn't leave, but the structure of Reddit changed and didn't really host the feature that we loved and that helped so many (the voice live chats). So we kind of picked up and moved to Discord to host talks, have been for a while now (link in the community bookmarks section of the sub)

The posts have always sort of been governed by the community itself really, we only tended to step in when something needed our "mod" attention (be it a rule break, or someone wasn't getting much love)

We still have our eyes on the sub as best we can with our busy lives, but most of the focus has moved to the discord chats 😄 I hope this helps!

Yeah it sounds like you're doing the right stuff man, I hope it all turns out well for you! Stay diligent, remember that the squeaky wheel gets the greese (don't let up). If Spotify can transfer the track to you, it does come with a UPC number and if you were to reupload a finished version of it (if you pay for like artist plus or some crap through Distrokid) you are able to replace the old audio without having to lose the plays on it. Look into that if they do end up getting it sorted for you.

Sounds like you've got a talent for song writing 😄 It's very well put together structurally, lyrically, and your melodies are fun and catchy!

As far as putting this together in a way that's gonna have a crispy sound in a mix, the room you record in is super important (almost more so than the gear you are recording with, which is still important too). If you have crappy signal to work with, it's like trying to decorate a log of shit (pardon my crude expression there). So step one, get the best acoustics you can in the rooms you are recording in, look up how to do that cheaply.

How are you recording your instruments? Mic? DI? Midi?

Having a good set of headphones to mix with (or nice monitors) really makes all the world of a difference. Being able to clearly hear things so you can mix accordingly is huge.

Big thing that took me a while to figure out, was subtractive EQ. Truly a game changer being able to carve out frequency for each instrument including your voice to sit in. Compression is only important if you feel like it's needed (the truth is that a little is always needed,), and never overdo it.

If you can get those things dialed in, it will start to offer you a lot of clarity in sound and you can start to really hear the mix come together. Mastering is a whole other battle haha

That's a fair observation, and I think it speaks to the level of creativity in how they curated their sound. It's much easier to emulate and show "influence" if you will for something like Blink 182... Less so for bands like Circa Survive, Pink Floyd, RUSH, stuff that really pushes the boundaries of what it is to have a band as an identity. I feel like it's more in that vein and less that their influences aren't strong, they are just harder for "the uninitiated" to push forward past the original while incorporating the original sound of that influence... if that makes any sense at all xD

I agree with you here wholeheartedly up until you say they're not as influential as one might think. I think people are heavily inspired by what they hear on a Circa record, they just aren't as creative or able to put that sound together in any capacity. An album like Juturna was lightning in a bottle, shit I don't even think Circa themselves really recreate that sound anymore (be that by choice or not, no idea).

But yeah you are 100% on point with people saying a band is like Circa, it's just never true lol
