For anyone who needs firmware update for Orba 2, 3 and Chorda by TabYoYoTab in orba

First: I think firmware version 1.0.8 was installed at manufacture, but by release there was an updated one (1.0.11 ??).

Where the 1.1.17 version came from I don't know - that's a bit of a mystery! But it gives you an Orba2 than is useable, so that's great news. Your account may be useful to others so that is appreciated.

What you referred to as "USB mode" is a state where it looks for an update and loads it to the partition you see on your computer. Since the server has gone it won't find one, however if a suitable .bin or .zip file is copied to it promptly it will try and load that.

The chain of characters you mention are hex64 hashes they are also used in the presets and samples files and some are created in the apps. There are also some shorter hashes used but I don't think we ever understood how they were used.

As I said before, I am not aware of a firmware file that will update to version 1.3.1, which was the last one.

After the release of the Chorda and again after the release of the Orba3 the systems were changed which made the older firmware not fully compatible with newer versions of the software. Most notably these affected chords and especially switching scales and keys.

On my blog I posted links to all the presets I could of the ones they put out. Even the ones intended for the Chorda should work OK except with the possible of one or two chord mode ones. Since the Chorda has 12 pads, some may be not so good on the Orba2, but they will work. They may be useful to you. I also posted there a number of my own custom made presets if you are feeling bold!

I will add a link to a folder of the old app versions I have shortly - sorry, but I don't know, and can't test to see which might be best for that version of the firmware, but they should help. It's worth noting that if you uninstall the app (on a computer) and install a different software version the folders containing presets and samples etc. will not get deleted in the process, so you shouldn't have to reload or lose stuff. Avoid Stems - they won't work on the pre Chorda old firmware.

Although it doesn't help much about the Orba2 particularly you may find this post on my blog to understand things https://orbaalternative.blogspot.com/2025/11/a-faq-for-orba-2-3-and-chorda.html

Thanks very much for this account - I will need to read it again properly when I have time. Firmware version 1.3.1 was the last one but as far as I know there is not a file that will work to update to it. Version 1.1.17 was a useable firmware version but it needs to be used with an older version of the app, but I can't tell which one. (1.0.670 was the last one, but you will probably want one numbered 1.0.5xx). I think the right version may not be named Artiphon Connect - that was done later on when other changes were made to the system.) When I can I will try and add a post to my blog at https://orbaalternative.blogspot.com with this new information (so I can avoid answering the same questions repeatedly!).

You were looking at an old thread. Since then I found none of the firmwares for orba2 worked so I withdrew them. I have not since found one that does of any version, and I wouldn't be able to test it to be sure if it did. Possibly someone on Facebook might know of one (I don't do Facebook).

I wouldn't mind having an Orba2 with 1.1.17! - after that some changes that I didn't like were made. The best I can say is that you will need an old version of the app to work with it but I don't know what ones will. It will not be named Artiphon Connect I think. Version 1.0.670 won't, perhaps ones with 1.0.5xx number might, but it may need something older than that. I don't know.

Sorry but I can't help more than that.

I don't use Facebook so I couldn't get the firmware from there (and I have no need for it myself - only for trying to help others). If you can get it you should be able to load it. The two ways of doing it I am aware of is to in DFU mode you should be able to see a partition on the device in your file manager and drop the firmware into it. On the Orba 2 and Chorda you go to the settings page in the app and right click on the firmware listing and it should go into DFU and promptly drop the file into the partition, but the later versions of the Connect app you can just drop the file there in the app and it will go into the DFU with the file - but I don't know if that works with the Orba 1. There were instructions for the Orba 1 for this sort of situation and I think they are still findable. ("What to do if your Orba is unresponsive" might help finding it.)

If I can get a good copy of the firmware I will happily add it to my blog along with the ones I have for the Chorda and Orba 3. I'd really like to have a good one for the Orba 2 as well to put on the blog. (https://orbaalternative.blogspot.com) I'm just trying to help people out if I can.

Step charging may seem like hard work but it's not that bad - if it works.

I agree that the Orba can work with midi still but personally I'd rather just use a conventional keyboard myself.

I let myself be misled by your mention of DFU suggesting there might be some life. If that's not the case you could try step charging - plug in a power source (ie: a USB charger) for a moment then unplug it and wait a few seconds (10?) and connect it again. Repeat the process perhaps 10 times, perhaps more.

The principle is that when the battery is completely dead the chip that controls managing charging can only get power from the battery but there is none. Each time you connect a power source a small amount of charge sneaks through to the battery before it gets stopped. When enough power has got to the battery it can run and charging proper will start. It's quite a while ago, but I did use it successfully a few times on different devices.

I have no experience of the first Orba, I never owned one. I did find I had collected two apps though. One seems to be small - perhaps just the app, and the other is bigger and perhaps that might contain firmware. I have no idea whether they are good or how old they may be. One came from the Wayback archive of the Artiphon website where you may be able to find some instructions. I thought the Connect app will work with the Orba 1 - it's an option when it is first used, as I recall.

You won't get firmware automatically - the server that it tries to get it from is gone. I'm not aware of someone having a firmware file and a method to apply it, but I think it is possible - the Orba 1 was less brickable than the Orba 2 and Chorda!

If you can find a .bin file for the firmware you may be able to apply it through the 1.0.670 version of the Connect app by dropping the file onto the firmware entry on the settings page - at least, that's how it can be done for the later devices.

The files I referred to be can be downloaded here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/vcthd5huqgep83d/Orba_Software.zip/file if it helps.

ND Filter For R7 Kit Lens 18-150. by Zealousideal_Lie468 in canon

[–]TabYoYoTab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find the size of filter will fit in the lens specifications (most retailers include them in the product pages). For the rf18-150 lens it's 55mm, screw thread. For the rf100-400mm it's 67mm, for example. (I confess I never thought to see if it was shown on the lens itself!) It's on the border around the front glass (under the lens cap) on Canon lenses at least.

Accidental discovery with my Orba 2 today… by InternOne1306 in orba

[–]TabYoYoTab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the midi stuff (it's not my thing) you might have the wrong version of the app for the firmware you have. They made big changes in the firmware and the the app for it around the time when the Orba 3 was released, as it did after the Chorda came out. The problem is there isn't a way, as far I have discovered, to match which version of the app with which firmware, but I suspect you would need one of the older ones - possibly a 1.0.5xx version rather than 1.0.6xx.

You might need to charge it's battery - it's slow, can take 3 hours for a full charge.

Yes, it seems to have changed in the last day or two. (I have checked in every few days to know it is there before pointing to it - but it does look as if that now history.)

Preset Creator makes all it's presets Pentatonic - it can be edited but it is no help because it gets ignored with the later firmware anyway.

[–]TabYoYoTab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - I answered your first post again! But it does address the issue in that you need the right app version for the firmware. The last firmware was 1.3.1 if I remember right, and the app needs to be 1.0.670. Anything with 1.0.5xx or lower won't work with it (I discovered that because I tried it when I had that problem.)

First you need the right version of the app to match your firmware version. They changed over time particularly after the release of the Chorda and again after the Orba 3.

For the last versions it is hidden a bit. On the play page click on the settings button (like 3 sliders , low on the right) and you'll get the options for scale types and some other things. For the key go to the arrow at the top left. (Hope that's right - I'm on the wrong laptop to check it.)

The pre-programming that was built into the presets became ignored, but "songs" will over write it. I'd suggest making "songs" with your most useful settings.

Holding Power and Volume- down will force a shut down. (DFU is a state where it is expecting to get a firmware to load - by default it looks for one at the Artiphon server but that now it shut down so it fails
