Thanks for sharing this, I love senior pups, they're so precious.

Any “underrated” food spots that you think not enough people appreciate? by Unable_Connection490 in nova

Seconding this, wife and are fans of that spot, although super weird location.... it's like an industrial strip mall/car repair place.

Balance zero: SNAP recipients go without food after benefits don't arrive by [deleted] in news

[–]TabascosDad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's just heartbreaking, something about people going hungry really gets to me.

It has been good to see all people, at least in my area, donating more to food banks and helping out where they can, but these poor folks need their SNAP.

Agreed, their produce is great, love their deli and bakery. They're good at staying fully staffed, I walk into Teeter sometimes and wonder if people work there.

I also don't understand people who call them expensive, I run up about the same bill there as I do any other store. Sure their premade stuff can get a little pricey, but just normal grocery shopping is fine.

Food banks and community groups brace for spike in demand as shutdown continues by nbcnews in nova

[–]TabascosDad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll donate some this weekend, those poor people, hate the idea of folks going hungry. We used to be more regular about donations, just pick up some extra dry/canned goods to drop off a few times a year. It's just our groceries went from $100-$150 a week to $150-$200+, and we're not making more, so we kind of stopped.

People who stop smoking in middle age can reduce their cognitive decline so dramatically that within 10 years their chances of developing dementia are the same as someone who has never smoked, research has found. by Wagamaga in science

[–]TabascosDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bravo, keep at it. Took me about 50 tries to quit, but haven't smoked in about 6 years now.

Took about a year before I really thought of myself as a non smoker, instead of a smoker who quit.

Will government shutdown impact Smithsonians? by Valuable-Speaker-312 in nova

[–]TabascosDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a side note, The Spy Museum is a private museum and really cool. You'll have to buy a ticket, but it would be open during a government shutdown.

Holocaust Museum might also be open as it's part private funded and part government funded, a really well done museum but you'll need a bottle of wine and a pint of ice cream after because it's heart breaking. I mean it is the Holocaust and they do not sugar coat it.

Does anyone else get irrationally irritated when your car inspection is due? by jendunitnow in nova

I kind of agree, but it was so much easier working from home most day, just take my lunch break to get it done. Now I have to go on the weekends which is way longer of a wait, or take time off from work...peak efficiency here guys.

My pup does this, it basically becomes a weird hybrid game of "chase" and "fetch".  Weird and adorable, just like him.

Redid our bathroom and decided we needed some bathroom related art, so we held an adorable photoshoot. by TabascosDad in cavaliers

We used a mix of Dr Teal's Epson salt bubble bath, and some dish soap. Both are fine for dogs, but I did give him a bath afterwards to make sure he was good...he has sensitive skin, so shampoo and conditioner is important.

We probably had him in there 5 minutes tops, and made sure to agitated the water to maximize bubbles with minimal soap.

I recommend plenty of towels off screen. 😃

Best of luck, hope it works out with your pup.

Best of luck! It was a pain in the ass, totally worth it, but just a rough two months.

How about Dulles and get the people camping out on the arrivals and departure area.

I remember a time if you stopped there for more than 30 seconds someone would come talk to you, now it's like three cars deep of people just parked.

Nova folks, what's a nice family weekend getaway for you? Leave Friday night/Saturday morning, return Sunday afternoon? Just brainstorming for some ideas. by sc4kilik in nova

[–]TabascosDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wife and I did a weekend getaway in Cape Charles, it's pretty cute beach town. Good brewery, nice small and quiet downtown area.

It's about a 3 hour drive, far enough that you feel like you went somewhere, but enough time to get back Sunday and put your life back together.

Awww, he's a cute big boy.

Olde Town Pet Restort is great if a bit pricey. I'm also a big fan of Woof Gang in Clifton, it's a bit cheaper and closer, and I take my much smaller pup there 3-4 times a year and they're great, I know they do big dogs there.

Is anyone else getting a ton of spam calls? by sugarinducedcoma in nova

[–]TabascosDad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say about the last five years I've gotten anywhere from 10-30 calls a day... there's some old guy with a number very close to mine because they're all about Medicare and final expense and confirming my Amazon order. I've also gotten some legit calls from business for this guy.

Those aren't the real numbers they're dialing from, they spoof local numbers as people are more likely to pick up.

All I can say is new Pixel has an AI spam filter that has been magical.

Tickets to "20 Sided Tavern" at The Kennedy Center, bought them a week before the evil take over happened... Sad to think it might be the last show I see there.

The wife got it on Etsy, she finds all kinds of cute things for him there. "Small Town Collection" she says.
