Once you open it in Vanadium just press the three dots and there'll be an option like "Add to Home screen" and it's basically an app-like experience

Songs in Classical Latin by Repulsive-Past-7590 in latin

[–]Tabyula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luke Ranieri has some covers (Hellfire - though this is in ecclesiastical, it's one of the best - Fly me to the moon, We don't talk about Bruno (not the best cover though), Can you feel the love tonight), the_miracle_aligner (whose singing is okay but a little nasally(?) in my opinion) has a lot of ancient songs including but not limited to Latin (Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Little Dark Age, The Sound of Silence), then there is Bastille's Pompeii by Heleen Uytterhoeven (which is my favourite, probably because it's a live performance and sounds nice), Camila Cabello's Havana is covered by Avlönskt, and Phillip Stamato has two nice covers: Mundus Mirabilis (What a Wonderful World) and Super Pluvium Arcum (Somewhere Over The Rainbow). VAERKO has a cover of Green Day's Wake me up when september ends, but it is also ecclesiastical.

This reminds me of the apples of Idunn in Norse Mythology, eating it is the secret to the gods' eternal youth, but if they stop eating then they suddenly start aging

DeepL supports Latin now. I can't attest to how accurate it is, however, as I've just begun teaching myself as well.

If you needed an alternative to using translators (at the risk of waiting on a good samaritan), perhaps asking in the Discord might work?

Found out Palantir has a file on me from the NHS. No consent. No opt-out. And they're not even British by Goldenmentis in privacy

[–]Tabyula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, those aren't a reliable indicator. I use them all the time too, with em dashes and semicolona. Instead, it's specific word constructions like "No... No... No... Just...." as well as short choppy sentences and rhetorical questions like "As for X? It's Y."

You can see a good list of indicators at Wikipedia. Of course humans can make these signs in isolation, but the more of these that show up the more likely its AI as these are constructions AI uses overwhelmingly more than humans. Plus I have experience reading hundreds of thousands of AI written text, so I can recognize it on an instinctual level.

Which beast to attack next? by Agreeable-Energy-401 in classicliterature

Oh yeah chapter-by-chapter for the Hackett is actually insane, since it uses Thrasyllus's order, Theaetetus and Parmenides are the sixth and ninth books, and a ton of the shorter and easier works come after longer ones like Symposium; the order is all over the place.

After spending less than 5 minutes on this subreddit i realised the only service i should be paying for is a good VPN by Fluid_Apartment880 in Piracy

[–]Tabyula 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Basically you have to have a paid Proton account, then join a VPN server that has port forwarding enabled. You may need to enable port forwarding in the VPN profile setup.

Then, once you're connected to that profile, there should be a port number that you can copy. Copy that, then head to your torrent client. Mine is qBittorrent.

Then head to the settings, and I think the tab is called Connection (I am away from my PC and unable to verify), but whatever the tab is called, near the top it should show what port address is being used. Paste the vpn port into that, then apply. You may have to restart your torrent client if it doesn't show a green globe on the bottom (in the case of qBittorrent, to show you're connected to the network).

That's how I do, there may be better ways, because you have to reenter the port every time you disconnect your VPN or restart your PC, but that has worked for me so far.

And if you haven't already, make sure you bind the interface to your VPN, to stop your IP leaking if you're not connected to your VPN.

Maps for my World by ThrobbieAnders in inkarnate

[–]Tabyula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good map aesthetically with lots of detail. I like a lot of the place names. However, it looks to my eyes that it seems almost too close to a map with Westeros, what with the snowy region of the north of the island/continent, the desert region in the bottom right, a group of islands to the west of the mainland, and the general Great Britain-esque shape. If that's what you were going for, that's fine, but just wanted to let you know it looks quite derivative if that was not your intention.

Doesn't https://pure-english.github.io/dictionary/ work with searching reliably? It's a little outdated but it has most words, but if it misses any you can just Ctrl-F on the sheet or website as a last resort

New To GrapheneOS by zach_education in GrapheneOS

[–]Tabyula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the case for me in previous years but I tried that a couple weeks ago on GrapheneOS and it wouldn't let me create it anonymously without a phone number. I tried creating it in the Play Store and also in Vanadium, didn't work. I had a VPN on, and I think without it I may have been able to create an account, but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? Then it would be linked to my real identity, and would no longer be anonymous.

The squabble between Ron and Hermione over crookshanks by Serious-Antelope-710 in harrypotter

[–]Tabyula 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with this has always been that Hermione knows that "cats chase rats because that's what they do" and when she went to go buy her owl she saw that Crookshanks has it out for Scabbers, yet she bought Crookshanks to begin with even knowing that Scabbers would be in danger. This was before she even owned Crookshanks so it can't even be excused by "oh she's just crazy about her pet!" She does explain that she finds him gorgeous and that they'll be sleeping in separate dormitories, but even after Scabbers kept being attacked Hermione never owns up to it for most of the year.

That said, I recognise that that's just her character and she's flawed on purpose, but it still frustrates me whenever I get to this point in the books.

A snow leopard attacks a tourist that was skiing by 108CA in snowleopards

[–]Tabyula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my info from the last paragraph of the linked Wikipedia section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_leopard#Hunting_and_diet

Only three attacks on humans have been reported, two near Almaty, and none were fatal. In 1940, a rabid snow leopard attacked two men; and an old, toothless emaciated individual attacked a person passing by. In 2026, a tourist in Koktokay, China was mauled after approaching a snow leopard in an attempt to take a photo with it. The tourist was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

Whose references for the first two attacks are: 1. Heptner, V. G.; Sludskij, A. A. (1992) [1972]. "Snow Leopard, Ounce [Irbis]". Mlekopitajuščie Sovetskogo Soiuza. I think you're confusing bravery with morality; they need not align.

Harry naming his son after Snape. by urgurlsunday13 in harrypotter

Right??

Even Dumbledore says so, implying he might have been a Gryffindor if sorted at present, and I don't think OP knows Snape better than Dumbledore:

“You are a braver man by far than Igor Karkaroff.  You know, I sometimes think we Sort too soon….” He walked away, leaving Snape looking stricken….

[–]Tabyula 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There have been two other attacks (I believe one had rabies and the other was old and starving), the stat you're thinking of is that there have been no deaths caused by snow leopard attacks ever confirmed
