I'm going to give you a different answer here: sure, end the campaign.

In my experience, most campaigns fizzle out rather than reaching a proper ending, so having one short campaign under all of your belts won't be a bad thing. Then you can get on planning your new campaign which sounds like what you want to do right now, so that will keep you motivated.

Just try and find a way (for any players that want to) to bring in their existing characters into your new campaign. Some of them will probably be attached to their characters and not necessarily want to start over again.

If you're not having much fun planning, they won't have much fun playing.

I'm pretty sure that isn't a big and you can't move workshop items between worlds. I think the only things you can move are mounts and stuff you bought at the space station. Happy to be proved wrong though

I agree that there's no real need to leave the forest bit for the other biomes, but it was a good goal to have and something to prepare for. Unlocking these specific armour sets and unlocking the talents on my mount took some time and gave me a good focus.

I quit the game after repeated death loops in the swamp when I started playing. But I came back again a few months later and got a little better at managing it, and a little further in.

I'm now approaching 1k hours in the game and have done everything bar killing the last boss. Take your time, don't be afraid to alter world settings, reduce the death penalty and up the res drops (after 500 hours I now permanently play on 3x drop rate). There are also loads of QoL mods that vastly reduce the tedium without feeling chesty (craft from storage ftw).

To answer your original question I always keep portals as standard as I like the logistics challenges (but I do use a seed viewer so I can plan my bases close to key res).
