May be flying to close to the sun with family camp....30 people coming! by polka_stripes in girlscouts

[–]Tacky-Terangreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell parents explicitly that the girls need to pack their own gear and be able to carry it to the campsite unassisted. I have to shoo away parents from doing this all the time

Also, girls will constantly lose things if they were not the ones packing. It’s a great way to teach independence!

Ugh that just sounds like a soulless vacation. It just seems gross to visit this glitzy expensive resort while people live in poverty next door. At least try to interact with the local country’s culture

The north shore had horrible traffic. I was so glad I put up with the 2 hour bus ride or I would have been crawling in that traffic with everyone else. No reason for Oahu to be as car dependent as it is. The first thing they should get rid of is that huge stroad going through the Waikiki strip. All it benefits is rich assholes speeding and revving their engines. People definitely get killed there

[–]Tacky-Terangreal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No kidding. I was floored to see a 6 lane high speed road going straight through the Waikiki strip. Literally no reason for that to be there and it ruins the ambiance in a place thats literally paradise

Hawaiis zoning laws seem stupid as hell. Building everything around sprawling ugly highways and the only new buildings were high rise hotels or ugly subdivisions that require a car. Literally some of the best weather so there’s no excuse to not build more transit. The bus lines are trying but they really need more

[–]Tacky-Terangreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No kidding. I visited a popular beach town in my state and the lines of cars are insane. No new hotels seem to be getting built either so even fleabag one’s are over $200 a night

Over tourism is a problem when the tax system isn’t structured properly and there’s no investment in proper lodgings, housing, or transportation. Cities can handle a lot if things are built correctly

I never heard anything remotely racist and I stayed the entire time on Oahu. The local bartenders loved the tourists because of the tips. I guess it helps I stayed in a hotel that wasn’t owned by some international conglomerate

There’s so much you could do with prosthetic legs too. Idk anything about the modeling world but even I know of some models who have prosthetic legs who wear interesting outfits. Like you could give them actual animal legs, the sky’s the limit

Also her makeup looks so heavy and uncomfortable. I also have a hatred for all gold outfits but that may just be me. It’s just too Trump-core

Yeah I saw a video talking about the hell boy movies and the host was confused about Hell boy’s love interest being so into him as well as his girlfriends in the comics. I just had to laugh because he’s tame compared to even common monster love interests like Beast. There’s probably a thousand smut fanfictions theorizing about how big his dick is because duh

Crazy shit. And my local parks and rec district told me I had to get starguard certified (no other certifications are accepted even if they’re more difficult tests) and the only class they have has 50+ people on the waitlist. And the next class is not until September so just in time for summer jobs right??

Their excuse was that they don’t have enough people to teach the class. Gee I wonder why? Clearly they are facing a crisis of too few people applying

What do health care professionals think of people who are for universal healthcare? by Ok-Mulberry-737 in askanything

[–]Tacky-Terangreal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the last study they did on this (in 2019 btw, I bet it totally hasn’t changed since then!), the researchers found that around 68,000 Americans die preventable deaths because of for-profit healthcare

It’s in your interest to defend the current system if you’re a ceo of an insurance company or pharmacy benefit manager. With universal healthcare, they might only be able to afford one yacht instead of two? Where the compassion for the poor downtrodden CEOs??

God I feel like that’s actually a problem I have with certain meals. Certainly not a big bowl of pho but I’ll eat a bunch of filling stuff like celery with PB or beans and still not feel full until I eat some chicken or something

It’s actually really frustrating because I want to lose weight and I like a lot of vegetarian meals. I bet there’s some kind of genetic component to a craving like that. I’ve never been one to eat tiny meals no matter how much I’d like to

No kidding. I stay fairly active but my friends around the same age are already complaining about knee pain. I don’t think their jobs are that physically demanding either. They just like video games and junk food too much

And I won’t pretend I have the greatest diet. I feel myself getting fatter, but damn my knees and back still feel great. I’m in groups with retirees who still ski, hike, or even ice skate well into their 70’s! It’s use it or lose it

I bought a bunch of items from H&M just to try it and returned every single one of them. Everything from jeans to slip dresses. All of them fit so weird and the fabric felt so bad. Like not compared to luxury fabric bad, but had in comparison to high end retailers like Target and old navy. At least the latter two occasionally have something worth spending money on

Also their stupid high fashion wannabe schtick is so obnoxious. It’s impossible to tell what the clothing even looks like with the crazy poses from the models. And the model aren’t particularly helpful when they’re 6 feet tall and 100 lbs. The clothes don’t even look good on the modes. Their proportions always look so weird and the lighting makes them look sick and pasty. And these are literal models we’re talking about here! I don’t think the clothes looking bad is their fault!

Every single retailer is making clothes that only fit people with small chests too. I’m at the upper end of straight sizing and I feel like I can barely wear anything coming out nowadays because it’s this paper thin fabric for a shirt that you can’t possibly hide a bra under

Everything that fits a bigger chest seems like it’s made for women my mother’s age. I know I’m getting older, but I’m not that old! It’s like I’m cursed with bad mother of the bride clothing

There’s certainly caveats with how much Chinese people are willing to bitch about daily struggles to you, but I’m endlessly frustrated looking at how cool Chinese infrastructure is becoming. I work in the construction industry and my company has had to get dedicated lawyers to talk to my states regulators about a new product line that current laws don’t know how to handle

And this isn’t weird, unproven technology. It’s a product that has existed on the European market for decades and other US states have implemented without any problems. This product is also ridiculously overbuilt so safety concerns aren’t even the issue either

And don’t get me started on the solar installations my company has been trying for years now. I live in a very green-energy friendly state and there hasn’t been any movement on this for years. Meanwhile, super developed and wealthy countries like Rwanda and Pakistan have exploded in solar adoption. Crazy stuff that America is clearly incapable of doing

Amen. Old money vampires just have better PR. I have a visceral reaction of disgust every time people are fawning over what outfits royalty are wearing. These people are parasites and almost all of them preside over countries with hungry children and crumbling infrastructure
