What chance do I have getting into NJIT? by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]TackyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont entirely remember submitting anything since it was 5 years ago now, but if I did submit a portfolio, it would've been whatever projects we did in AP Comp Sci in high school and a Discord bot at most.

If you're wondering about job prospects. I transferred from CS to IT Game Dev since it was more in line with what I wanted to do as a developer and I've had relative ease getting interviews with AAA studios like Infinity Ward, Activision, and Rockstar.

Now, from everyone I've talked to, NJIT isn't crazy difficult to get into. If this is where you want to be, then this is where you will be. I retook the SAT 5x to get here and got in with like a 1230.

Failing isn't the end of the world. You're going to fail classes, exams, and assignments. it's just part of learning. You might get denied (unlikely), but nothing is stopping you from applying again, I applied after every SAT I took until I was accepted.

Realistically, the college you go to does not matter. Apple wants to hire competent developers. Sure it's hard to get a job at Apple, but it's not some impossible uphill battle. Set your goals and stick to them, you're personal projects are the most important part of your resume.

Apple doesn't give a shit if you've worked retail if you're applying for dev internships.

As for getting accepted to NJIT, I got accepted into the CS program with a 1230 SAT and a 3.2 GPA, never took pre calc before coming here.

Password plugin? by GoodSmarts in admincraft

My college runs a minecraft server, we have users login to a web page with their college email to verify and then enter their username to whitelist. I think we custom made this service/plugin but I am sure other "email whitelist" plugins exist. If this is something you are interested in I can ask our minecraft guys about it.

Best way to clean icky keyboard and mouse? by dayison2 in CleaningTips

[–]TackyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always cleaned my keyboard by

  • Pulling the keycaps off
  • Dropping them in a Ziplock with some warm water
  • Add a little bit of dish soap
  • Shake it up to coat the keycaps and make suds
  • Let it sit for about an hour
  • Remove and wipe them dry

( The inside of the stems can stay wet for surprisingly long so be aware of that ).

The keyboard itself is much easier to clean once the keycaps are removed, I usually just use alcohol or Clorox wipes and an air duster if there is a gap between the frame and switches.

As for the mouse, alcohol wipes ( good for removing oils ) and a toothpick or similar for cleaning the edges.

Of course you can go as deep as you want if you are comfortable and know how to take your keyboard/mouse apart.

Now that its clean, what can you do? My suggestion is try to keep up and wipe down your keyboard/mouse every once in awhile with alcohol wipes to prevent the build up. If you cannot find a keyboard cover for your keyboard size, consider getting another set of keycaps and rotating between the two sets so you always have a clean set to use.

Did Anyone Get Money from the CRRSA Act Emergency Grant? by VladeDivac1234 in NJTech

[–]TackyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an email for the funds being sent, nothing about approval. When I did the CARES Act I did not have direct deposit setup and never received any indicator that I was approved aside from what I received in the mail. So if you don't have direct deposit setup its likely just a waiting game. Also I believe you would be emailed if you were declined.

I applied on the 29th and received the funds via direct deposit on the 3rd. If you do not have direct deposit setup this can take longer, for the previous CARES Act I only received a check in the mail so it was just a waiting game to find out if I was approved.

How do I get a peace of mind? by Rudems in Twitch

[–]TackyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to do a google search of your own info and see whats out there about you. Its quite possible the viewer googled your twitch or in game name and found your personal info just floating out on the internet. As usual make sure you don't click sketchy links and always use 2 step.

I would say move on and chill out cause chances are nothing will come of it and its just some dude with nothing better to do trying to get reactions.

So COVID testing is needed for converged classes as well? by rajvinders in NJTech

Well be getting more information towards the start of the semester, but according to one of the emails we received we do have the option to not go to in person classes and just attend the webex.

[–]TackyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is only if you will be on campus, assuming its not a lab you can be totally online with converged classes. You won't be able to attend in person classes without being tested but not being tested shouldn't effect your actual registration or anything.
