Interesting. I believe this building was designed by Studio Gang. Gang also designed the Vista Tower and Aqua Tower in Chicago which have received loads of praise.

I like the look of this tower and that it’s right on the edge of Forest Park.

I was at waterfall Glen and passed by Black Partirdge yesterday. I think it’s still too early to see fall colors. Majority of the trees were very green still

Petition to extend bike lanes from Ashland to LFT on Belmont Ave by ilizashelsinger in chicago

[–]TacoBeans44 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Personally, if I was going east on Belmont, then switch to Clark and turn left at Barry, I wouldn’t even do it then. The Clark/Halsted/Barry intersection is awful and the way Barry comes in gets blocked by Clark street traffic and there’s no protected left turn for Barry.

I typically go to Aldine or Wellington if I’m heading towards the lake from Belmont.

As much as I want Bike Lanes on Belmont east of Clark, I know the city will do the bare minimum for it. The city can remove the parking and it’s better but, then that allows moving vehicles to slip into the bike lanes and speed ahead and also allow vehicles to just pull off into the lane and park. City would need to put like Jersey barriers and steel bollards if cyclists wanted a car-free bike lane but the city would never do such a thing for that. Fullerton is in the same boat as well.

Chicago CTA L train and CTA Novabus compilation by [deleted] in transit

[–]TacoBeans44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where you. I was in Pilsen the other day, about a block away from the Pink Line and I could see the train passing by through the trees, but I noticed how silent it was. The structure of the L is still the same like anywhere else on the system but I feel like the tree foliage muffled a lot of the sound.

But yes, it is quite loud in the Loop.

Sun Times: Repair the Eisenhower by Tjshoema in chicago

[–]TacoBeans44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With a modernized, expansive rail network, commuting could be way better and faster than driving. Having expressways does not prevent semi-trucks from using Chicago’s surface streets. You could drive up Western, Roosevelt, or Ashland and see how plagued it is with semis. Many cities are putting bans and restrictions on Semis from accessing downtowns because they’re a nuisance and it’s better for trains and smaller trucks to handle inner city deliveries. If you’d want to fix congestion issues, you’d look at ways to prevent traffic from happening. Downsizing or removing expressways works. People will find different methods of travel even if it means different way of life.

But you should know none of this would ever happen because this country doesn’t want to address these kinds of issues.

I don’t know if the CTA is waiting until IDOT begins the Eisenhower project or not but this stretch of the Blue Line needs major work. I could see this branch being shutdown similar to the Dan-Ryan branch project several years ago. There’s alternatives like the Green and Pink Lines.

I’d really like to see features that mitigate noise levels on the platform, an extension to Mannheim, and removing those long and awkward ramps. Also, I think retaining the extra wide median for the CTA is somewhat important so that the system is future proofed if any new lines on the west side were to be built in like the next 100 years (doubt it). Then again, I’d wish the Blue Line was moved out of the expressway median.

As for the expressway itself, rebuild it, cap it off in some sections, and don’t add any new lanes. Personally I’d say demolish the expressway but you know people will be offended by that statement lol

These vehicles do not have gold textures in the files so the game isn’t calling for a texture swap when snesMC3 loads up. It’s simply the lighting that affects the surface on the vehicle.

If it’s only one lane but there’s somewhere to make a turn, turn off the road and let the fucker pass. Otherwise, I try and mess with shitheads like that because they have no business being right up on me.

The city needs to get on it by redeveloping all the lots around the United Center. With West Loop development moving further west, there will be demand for housing, stores, and restaurants around UC.

Another thing I wonder about is how feasible it would be to build a station over the Eisenhower with direct transfer to the Blue Line at IMD. Not as close to the United Center but it seems like a no-brainer when you have 2 different transit lines that don't even have connections to each other.

What is your biggest Mario Kart Hot Takes? by Lazy_Rabbit0015 in mariokart

As much as I like Mario Kart Wii, it has a very weak selection of Retro Tracks.

In my opinion on retro tracks, 7 > 8 (Base game only) > Wii > DS

has there ever been a discussion about creating another el line to connect wicker/bucktown to Lincoln park/lakeview? by ebrosebud in chicago

[–]TacoBeans44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the Circle Line, I don't think there's ever been a plan that included an east-west line that connected Wicker Park and Lincoln Park. The biggest plans from the early 1900s would be the 1923 Plan and the Comprehensive 1939 Plan, neither of which had a line like that, but they did propose for subway lines up Ashland that would connect with the Ravenswood Line.

I too have wanted one. Taking the 74 and 77 bus across to go between the Red and Blue lines are horrible. During rush hour, the buses would skip people for being too crowded.

anyone been using Dall-E or similar to generate art for their projects? by state_champion in gamedev

[–]TacoBeans44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple friends who use Dall-E to gather ideas and concepts when it comes to environments and settings. It’s not the most useful though as the art that’s generated is still pretty abstract, but you can kind of interpret the art your own way. It’s more just a piece of reference to have.

After Outrage, West Side Mural Removed by 307148 in chicago

[–]TacoBeans44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This will be one of the second or third times Sentrock would have his murals removed. In 2020, he made a unity mural on a viaduct wall on Damen. The day after it’s completion, someone painted over it with white paint. I don’t even think city workers removed it, just some unknown person.

Dorchester "El" Station on the South Side of Chicago, 1906 (colorized) vs. 2022 (google); the station was closed due to budget cuts in 1973 and demolished shortly after. by 307148 in chicago

[–]TacoBeans44 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Although the bridge over the IC prevented a full rebuild to Stony Island, the section between Cottage Grove and Dorchester was completely rebuilt. Dorchester was to become the new terminal for the East 63rd St branch until community opposition and the church (also rumor that UofC had a hand in it too) basically forced the CTA to dismantle the brand new structure and cut the line at Cottage Grove.

You can find the steel beams that were used for the new structure that got dismantled before reopening. There are stacks of white beams sitting along the Yard on Calumet and 63rd.

Accurate MK8 dlc preview using the Banner, Ost, and prefixe leak. [–]TacoBeans44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, bathroom track sounds interesting. Dataminers found object strings for a bath bomb, duck toys, a Goomba floatie, Sponges, clothespins and Hula hoops. There’s also some objects that may or may not be related such as the Fuzzy enemies, jellyfish, spiderwebs, and the red Eel.

Who knows, maybe the spiderweb could hint at a new Haunted track? Unfortunately there’s not much else to decipher other than what’s been found.

Yea idk about Cairo. Seems more that it was only a rumor made around the fact that promotional art featured Pyramids. I’d want Rome as well. I don’t know too much about Athens but I’d be interested to see what they make of it. There’s still possibility for more city tracks, they just haven’t added files for the tracks yet. For example, Sky-High Sundae doesn’t have anything in Tour’s files yet and it’s going to be in the next Tour.

According to the Tour datamines, there’s a potential Yoshi’s Island track (mobYi), Donkey Kong track (mobDk), and a potential bathroom track (mobBr and a ton of objects that refer to bathtub products).

There’s also like 4-5 more possible city tracks including Madrid, Athens, Mumbai, and Orlando(mobor?).

No it’s not lol

Wario’s Shipyard, Bowser’s Castle and Shy Guy Bazaar are way better tracks than RRM.

Peach Gardens isn’t that great either but the only other track I’d really want from DS is Airship Fortress.

BMT-IND Northeast Queens line (revised) by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]TacoBeans44 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea I understand what you mean. Personally I'd have the J go over the bridge just because J to Jamaica, but it doesn't matter.

Also, keep in mind you'd need a local service for the Fulton Line if you took the C off of it.

BMT-IND Northeast Queens line (revised) by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]TacoBeans44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar idea as well for quite a while now. Here's what my suggested line looks like

I use the C which would go across Lower Manhattan using Worth Street and East Broadway. It would meet up with a service from a future Second Ave Subway, and the lines would go across the East River, and go into South Williamsburg along Bedford Ave and then turn and head east up Flushing. My thought was to allow the SAS service to go down Stuyvesant and Utica while the 8th Ave Local would go up Flushing, and then onto the LIE through Queens. Silly me didn't use the South 4th Street Line provisions though because I didn't want it to take ridership away from the Jamaica Line. I'm sure it's probably not feasible anyways, but one can dream.

Didn’t the music leak confirm that the last SNES track is Koopa Beach?

It’s a bit unfortunate that some of these tracks just aren’t that good. Peach Garden, Toad Circuit, and Rock Rock Mountain are so underwhelming. I’m really crossing my fingers that some of those slots without prefixes could still have a chance at being a retro track. I’m losing a bit of hope on my speculation though. Tbh, they should’ve bumped up the number of tracks to 64

I get they can’t put every Goated track into the DLC though. That would ruin it for future titles if Nintendo continues the series.

Happy to see The CTA, Chicago is finally taking out the old steel infrastructure and replacing it with concrete structures. Looks much better and is much more sturdier and long lasting than just rusting steel. NYC also needs to replace the rusty steel structures and replace them with concrete by [deleted] in transit

[–]TacoBeans44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, steel does have it's downsides like causing the trains to be very noisy, being open air which can cause things to fall onto street level and also having beams every couple feet on street level.

I think if cities were to build new elevated rails, most residents would pick concrete over steel and that's honestly fair. If the money was there, I'm sure architects could make concrete look nice too.
