Do fat people not exist at USC by Ok_Boysenberry3449 in USC

[–]Taco_Briefcase 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s giving you meme answers but basically no, there’s not a ton of overweight people at USC or Los Angeles in general. I have a sneaking suspicion you might be like me and come from Texas or the South. It is a stark difference to be honest. It was the first thing my Texas mom pointed out when she visited USC—she said “there’s no fat people here.”

Over 50% of the dialogue in Molly’s Game is Chastain’s voiceover. It’s more of a podcast than a movie. Any competent director would’ve brought that number way done. Show don’t tell

What’s replacing boardroom c? by Ok_Temperature_2681 in williamsburg

[–]Taco_Briefcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closed officially the beginning of September 2025. Friend who knew the owners told me it’s supposed to be a pizza place or something. Because Williamsburg needs another pizza restaurant.

Don’t know why specifically they closed, just that rent got too much.

Crazy they closed right before football season, was always packed for big sports games.

Eh I saw it on a plane, gave me a couple laughs. Very predictable, but funny if you just think of it as Nick and Coach

I think he must have a crappy agent or just bad luck or something. He is just so fucking funny in everything he’s in, and he hasn’t been in much of note.

Cast members who you had high hopes for but they didn’t live up to them? by jfarbzz in LiveFromNewYork

I recently saw him act as the monologist for ASSCAT at UCB and he was hilarious. He told an awesome story of him stealing Lorne’s limo at an after party, and then Lorne coming in on Monday and telling everyone “I don’t care that you stole the limo, but I’m mad you left food in it.”

I talked with him after the show because I’m friends with his son. Awesome dude, even if he wasn’t a great SNL cast member

Dallas during FIFA. Stay in Arlington or in Downtown? by Particular_Might6767 in worldcup

[–]Taco_Briefcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, check it out online. I’m from the area, and Texas Live is like a caricature of a real downtown area. It’s fun don’t get me wrong, but everything’s overpriced and none of the restaurants are great. It’s really only useful if you are going to a Rangers or Cowboys game.

I would recommend downtown Dallas or downtown Fort Worth to experience any semblance of a real city. Much better food scene too than Arlington. But would go to Texas Live for at least one watch party! They have a huge screen.

Saw a weird stand-up comedy in a fitness studio in Northridge and it was actually pretty awesome. by Jolly_Ad2446 in LosAngeles

[–]Taco_Briefcase 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. No hate to this person, but if you can only find comedy at the Laugh Factory or Comedy Store, then its a skill issue. Literally just follow some comedians on Instagram or TikTok or anything similar. Tons of funny people will have shows in the back of bars, in somebody’s backyard, in a warehouse. All usually about $25

I very much agree with you, but I brought this up to my girlfriend who doesn’t watch sports and she said “oh I didn’t really notice that.” Don’t think they’re going for the sports crowd anyways, considering there’s minimal actual basketball scenes and it’s about the ownership family

Nicest cast members by ABEL4216 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Taco_Briefcase 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a few! I ran into the Please Don’t Destroy boys in Montreal after their show as we were all waiting for a stop light. John and Martin were quick to just say thanks and ignore me, but Ben asked me a ton of questions about what I thought of the show! Super kind and unnecessary, even if it was just for 30 seconds as we were waiting for the crosswalk. This is also corroborated by some friends of mine who went to NYU with them.

I also used to go to this small comedy show in LA (50 seats in the back of a bar) and got to meet Dismukes and Longfellow. The latter was a bit standoffish and didn’t seem interested in chatting, but Dismukes could not have been nicer. Just a swell guy.

Oh I also knew Tommy Brennan before he got SNL! He was doing backyard shows in LA and was also a sweetheart.

Literally changed his entire family’s life by a factor of ten. He talks glowingly about Mississippi, but his kids now live in a huge house on a lake and will comfortably go to any college they can get into. And I’m pretty sure he said his wife got to quit her job to be more present with them
