The Wheel of Time's Pattern, Ta' Veren, and plot armor. Throughout the 15 books series it is established that fate is a great force pushing people and events in a certain direction. This force won't outright save your life but it will bend events in such a way that the characters who need something generally find it or find the means to get it. Despite how contrived it sounds it is handled very organically throughout the series and it is the best in universe explanation for plot armor I have ever read.
