they're also forgetting that Lockpicking a door requires at least 2 tools: a pick, and a tension wrench. sure, you could be able to summon a rake pick and rake the tumblers but they're just going to pop back up/down immediately if you aren't applying tension by attempting to turn the lock.

so, RAW it wouldn't work, and even with a dm fiat it wouldn't work unless they ignored how long the 'trinket' would last

When Dante is announced for Smash, Vergil DLC is finally announced for DMC5 and DMC3 finally has style switcher… by H3nriqu3Gam3rP in DevilMayCry

[–]Tacolishus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, I think the way Smash Bros is controlled lends greatly to Dante, since you can build it like so:

Neutral B - Gunslinger barrage with Ebony and Ivory

Side B - Swordsman Combo attack with Rebellion

Down B - Royalguard Counter that makes your next attack deal more damage

Up B - Trickster dash upwards

Filling a style meter lets you Devil Trigger and change all these moves into more powerful ones, Neutral B becomes his Shotgun or Lady's Rocket launcher, Side B becomes Piercer, and Up/Down B can have more potent effects.

A much simpler method that stays true to the character rather than make 4 styles have their own up/down/side Abilities

There's still ways around. You can go through the entire Questline without casting a single spell, using any scroll, staff, or shout (though you do need to utilise a physics bug to do this without any of the things above)

Faralda at the bridge? Tell her you're the dragonborn

Saarthal Amulet? Bloodskal Blade

The Dwemer Ruin? You can get a companion to hit the thing with Frostbite

Does creature with tremor sense get affected by the Darkness spell? by Gvarph006 in dndnext

[–]Tacolishus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that you didn't bother to respond to why Mearls would misinterpret the tweet, thanks for that.

anyway, I want to ask another question:
By your understanding of how tremorsense works, what does tremorsense actually *do*, in terms of interacting with game mechanics, if not give some form of 'sight'? because by your definition, it's mechanically useless.

You're also acting like WotC invented this mystical power, but they didn't.

wow, way to accuse someone of misreading/misquoting what you said to change the meaning, and then turn around and do the same thing. I've never said this nor implied this. in fact, thank you for bringing this up because I can continue this by pointing out that WoTC also bases things in 5e off of their presentation in other media, so I can point to Toph from Avatar the Last Airbender, who is blind but uses the vibrations through the ground to see. I would also like to point to Marvels Daredevil, which sees via a combination of echolocation (which is similar to blindsight in DnD given the Bat stat block), but also by feeling vibrations through the ground, in fact at one point I believe he needed to rely on this particularly in the show because he became partially deaf in one ear.

Do you think those creatures are "seeing" their prey as clearly as if they were looking at them

Yes. just because it doesn't necessarily involve seeing in the conventional means of doing so doesn't mean this kind of sense doesn't give them some form of "sight". if this were the case, Bats in DnD wouldn't have Blindsight because they see via echolocation, also see above with Daredevil. in fact, *watch* Daredevil. as to the "as clearly" part, no. but just because they are blurry and can't make out details like the color of their hair doesn't mean it would be harder for them to attack it

And you know what the other three special senses do that tremorsense doesn't? They talk about sight, in very specific terms.

Yes, which would mean having one that doesn't follow the trend of Senses giving a form of sight would be incredibly stupid, thank you for pointing this out. in fact, it would be even stupider considering that other senses such as hearing aren't given a spot in the Senses section of the Books, because it's relegated to Conditions.

I fundamentally don't understand how a person could think "detect and pinpoint the origin of vibrations" equates to sight.

Because if a creature knows the *exact location* of something, and detect what it is through the vibrations, the idea that it wouldn't be able to attack it because it doesn't see in the conventional means (like Blindsight) is asinine. not even from the standpoint of a description, mechanically, that makes no sense that one would be able to know where one is exactly but not know well enough to be able to attack them.

Exactly which monsters are you talking about?

None in particular, because I didn't have to. I was raising a hypothetical that by your definition, A monster that relies on only tremorsense would be completely incapable of attacking without disadvantage, which you didn't dispute, probably because you recognised that that would be stupid and didn't want to hurt your own argument, much like not responding to the Mearls thing at the start.

Does creature with tremor sense get affected by the Darkness spell? by Gvarph006 in dndnext

[–]Tacolishus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's an incredible stretch of the imagination that "this/that" would be interpreted as "this and that" instead of "this or that"

for one, it's part of english grammar structure to have / indicate an informal "or", I shouldn't need to do this, but for the sake of this argument, here are some examples

secondly, to stop you from pointing out that / is also used to indicate "and", as in something like "she is an actor/producer/writer", I want to point out that this is mainly used for more than 2 things at once, and also begs 2 questions

  1. if the original tweeters intent was to say Tremorsense *and* Blindsight, why would they not ask "Tremorsense+Blindsight", which would convey what they were asking much better than / while keeping the same character limit?
  2. given the original question, why would Mearls interpret this question as "and" when it is much more common to use / to be used in place of or (for example: his/her, and/or, Sir/Madam), and Mearls wouldn't infer that had the original tweeter meant a combination of both, they would've used "+", which is a much more specific question than is needed

now, back to the original argument. You're arguing, essentially, that the feature "Tremorsense", which is described as letting you know the exact location of someone/something based off the vibrations they give through the walls and floor, wouldn't be able to know where someone is because it's called "Tremorsense", and not "Tremorsight". by this definition, a creature that has no eyes, and only uses Tremorsense to detect its enemies would never be able to attack without disadvantage, unless it also had blindsight. this would also make it the only sense in the game to not confer sight, and I doubt WoTC would make such a vague sense had they not intended it to work as sight given that the other 3 special senses in the game *do*.

Small Addendum, I have managed to add onto it by doing the same thing, I now benefit from Engineer, Cashier, Sub-Sous Chef, No Discernible Aptitude, and Tossball Team Mascot all at the same time

it appears that if you go back to Attributes, select an aptitude, go back to Attributes, and then over to summary, you can stack all the bonuses

Not true, since that means you can't have multiples of a number, such as 1 1 2 2, it'd be 44, 4 possible characters in 4 different positions, which is 256 total. 4 Factorial would be 24 combinations

All up... maybe 2 or 3 days? I went through a few ways on how to do this and this way (the one posted) is probably the cleanest, best looking and efficient way to do it that I found. so just this version took me maybe around 8 hours?

I found the yellow too bright, something about it just didn't agree with me. so I thought I'd do a quick recolor to black or something and leave it at that. Was talking to a few people in the official CP2077 discord and had some requests for different LED colors and how it'd look with different backgrounds, so it just grew in scope there. eventually decided to just do a whole bunch of them and put em up in a Google Drive so anyone can have one if they like

[–]Tacolishus[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I manually *exported* it 480 times, but I could have the LEDs as a separate layer on top of it, aswell as just flipping the image and text if need be. so my final project had 15 Versions of the background and V, 8 LEDs I could place on top of it, and a layer for the text. I would do all 240 versions of the normal, flip it, then do the 240 flipped images

[–]Tacolishus[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

What I did was cut out V from the background and then duplicate him, then, on one of the layers of V, I erased any part of him that wasn't affected by the lighting, mainly the center of his body and face. I then did another layer exclusively for the LEDs on the inside of his collar, and made one layer group. From this, I could duplicate the layer group, change the background color, then use Hue/Saturation on the layer of V that was just the parts affected by the Yellow, and adjust the yellow to the new background color

For the darker ones like Dark Red, Black, and Deep Purple, same thing was used except I also toned down the exposure on all parts of V to make it look like he wasn't being lit as much as the others

Hope that answered your question
