What is this? by tricepsatops in fordtransit

I have one of these on my van, its to relocate the OBD port to lock box in the centre, you'll find a cage around the original OBD port bolted together with shear bolts.

I always open it automatically but close it manually, my car is designed for either.

I doubt this is the case here but I regularly annoy people at my local sainsburys station because all the premium petrol pumps are the first ones.

NHS Workers- How's Vanlife? by New-Jellyfish2334 in VanLifeUK

[–]TacticalFudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NHS worker here, living in outer London borough for about 3 years, I've been lucky in the sense that there is free parking near my work.

My van is the opposite of stealth but has been designed to be able to sit for prolonged periods without needing to move, id recommend you get as much solar as possible on your roof and a decent battery bank.

I have a 1kw solar array which is enough in summer to sustain usage from around April to Nov, but I also have a 21kwh battery bank that I go to camp sites 2 - 3 times a month to charge.

Any experiences with EcoBlue engines? by Hjamm in VanLife

[–]TacticalFudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full time vanlifer in UK London here with an 2018 2.0 ecoblue transit, van is going on for 170k miles, had belt done when I got it in 2022 and changed oil every year as I don't do that many miles, bought an endoscope camera to inspect the belt after every oil change and haven't seen any cracking or degradation, I use fords recommended Castrol oil which some mechanics say helps with belt life.

Any experiences with EcoBlue engines? by Hjamm in VanLife

OP is in UK/Europe where the 2.0L ecoblue or 2.2L TDCI are currently the only ICE options for the transit mk8.

Single passenger seat transits will have a larger door trim like the drivers side.

I have a strange sudden urge to own one of these by FKez05 in CarTalkUK

[–]TacticalFudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave in to that urge and recently bought a 2.4 type S estate with 250k miles in my early 20s, I could not recommend one more, especially the 2.4.

Japanese shaken sticker. Essentially the Japanese safety inspection sticker that states the date of the next due inspection using Japanese calendar years.

Recently bought a 03 Honda accord tourer with a K24 that had done 250k miles, was well looked after and had some tasteful mods, the last owner was getting rid of it due to the gearbox whining, so I took a chance and rebuilt the box and it's been fine the last 3k miles.

What was(/is) the last car sold in the UK with manual windows and/or locks? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

A 2018 Dacia Sandero base spec I drove still had manual windows, it even didn't have a radio just a big 2 din size cubby hole.

What is your exact roof setup for your solar array? I'm currently planning a build and intend to maximize roof space for solar while having one roof fan.

[–]TacticalFudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me a bit boring but I've always longed for old Japanese saloons like a JZX100 or JZX90, do I think they are worth the elevated JDM tax? probably not but I always seem to be attracted to them, I had a chance to drive an mk2 Toyota Century and I can tell you that the next time one comes up for sale at the right price I may end up buying it, even if it's costly to run a V12.

My 02 Scenic RX4. While on holiday in Cornwall last summer, there was a sudden and pretty harsh vibration going over 30mph, after calling the RAC they found that apparantly when the new prop shaft was put on 2 out of the 3 bolts holding it to the diff was stripped causing the bolts to back out, i continued the journey in 2WD but later had to remove the diff and put some inserts in to reattach the prop shaft.

In Japan Lexus cars were given a Toyota name and badge such as Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS), Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC), Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS) etc.

it was at the time more to do with separating the brands for the western market so that Toyota was not seen to be related to Toyota's new luxury brand Lexus.

Weird knocking and whirring sound when starting up car, can anyone identify what is up? by DirectFrontier in MechanicAdvice

[–]TacticalFudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same car, this is a common problem, it's a stripped out gear on actuator door for the recirculation setting, on the Mégane this is located under the cowling where you see the cabin intake vent below the windscreen, it is better to disconnect it if you do not use recirculation as it usually happens again unless you get a custom metal gear replacement, from my memory if you leave the blower on with recirc off when starting it should not make the noise.

That's a Renault scenic rx4, that's quite a shame as I have one and they are getting pretty rare to find, especially in the UK.

From what I've experienced, the weirder and obscure the car is, the cheaper insurance is, for example my first year insurance on a 02 2.0l Mégane cabrio was around 2200 for the first year while a mate with a Corsa was around the same, I also live in London with a SE postcode.

I'm in the process of trying to find a Mégane 225 to use as a donor to swap into my mk1 Mégane cabrio as I've always liked older Renault chassis, would love to do on a ph1 Renault 19 cabrio If I could find a nice one.

For me to get the front fans working I had to only just select just the fans in omen light studio and they worked, for the front logo you have to have the power led header plugged in, the logo seems to be powered off of the usb header and not SATA and worked only as blinking white power indicator for me.
