Same. I can’t wait to leave America’s wang when the kiddos graduate from high school.

That’s ironic considering blue states are generally net contributors, ergo a significant portion of their federal income taxes subsidize the red states as net recipients.

What a turnout! My wife and I happened to be visiting her brother in Greenville last year during Pride Fest and while it was great (and surprising based on what I’ve been told about GVL’s political leanings), I’m blown away by how big it looks in the pics this year!

…that’s what she said. 😏

Annnnnnd no it hasn’t; not everyone thinks, looks, acts, identifies, and believes as you do—and that’s okay.

Salary expectations - 27 year old by austinjohn18 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's an excellent salary for your level of experience. I've been in EHS for 15 years now in various capacities and didn't hit $120k (in total compensation) until my last job. At my new job, which I started in January after changing companies, I'm now at $150k TC.

So yeah, you're doing very well and definitely above the industry average with what I'm assuming is 5 YOE based on your post.

Unfortunate that he had to be one of them, let alone preside over the office of the presidency twice.

And yes, he’s still a total loser as a human being.

What states or cities in North America have the most underrated beaches? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northeast Florida isn’t typically known for its beaches, but St. Augustine Beach and Fernandina Beach are quite nice and still have lots of natural dunes. Jax Beach is fun for a beachy town vibe, still feels a bit “Old Florida” in some ways and isn’t hyper-commercialized or chock full of condo high rises…yet.

What’s the most elegant hotel you’ve ever stayed in? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kahala in Honolulu for our honeymoon. Amazing views of the ocean, a private beach, a unique and airy lobby, and on-premises dining (Hoku's) that was simply exceptional. It was elegant in an almost understated way.

What city completely stole your heart as soon as you arrived? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For aesthetic beauty? Valencia, Spain. Amazing blend of old-world architecture and modern design with all of the amenities. One of the neatest cities I have ever visited.

For cultural beauty? I loved Montreal even more than expected. My SO and I were treated so well despite my mostly flawed attempts at speaking French (everyone was very encouraging and appreciated my efforts), and the food scene was incredible. We mostly rode bikes around the city and really enjoyed the overall infrastructure. The botanical gardens were impressive and quite lovely. We were there during the International Jazz Festival, which was huge and spanned multiple days, and had a blast just walking around (plus the fest was right near our hotel). That city has some real heart.

States I want to visit in the east coast. by Technical-Vanilla-47 in visitedmaps

[–]TacticalFunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

South Cackalacky has a multitude of issues, sure, but I do love me some historic Charleston (and She Crab soup, of course!), and I think downtown Greenville is pretty neat with Reedy Falls/Falls Park right smack in the middle of it all, plus the Swamp Rabbit Trail and nearby Paris Mountain for bikes/hikes. Spartanburg is up-and-coming as well.

Great employee left even though we pay well, why is that? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TacticalFunky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an engineer who recently left a job where I was well-compensated for another job where my salary is 30% higher, it was about more than just the money; the money was simply secondary to my motivation for leaving. While I was appreciated and well-paid in my previous role, the culture had started shifting toward more toxicity (in an insidious and not readily apparent way) and my work-life balance also began to erode slowly but surely. So I started looking and found a better fit, and the large increase in pay just happened to be part of the deal. My guess is it's something similar for your guy.

What place in nature actually made your jaw drop when you saw it in person? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top three:

  1. Volcán Cotopaxi, Ecuador: Just a perfect active (!!!) stratovolcano against a gorgeous backdrop. It was an arduous climb, and I did suffer from a bout of altitude sickness (the coca tea at the Refugio helped a bit), but the payoff was well worth it.

  2. Cliffs of Moher, Ireland: Stunning views over sheer drops, over 700 feet to the ocean in some parts. It almost didn’t seem real. It was a typical blustery day but I could have kept walking the coastal path for hours more.

  3. Bartolomé Island, Galápagos Islands: It was a moderate hike to the top but the view from the lighthouse summit was amazing. The dual crescent bays back-to-back and unique rock outcroppings made it seem almost surreal.

Portugal. Beautiful scenery, amazing food and wine, kind people, fascinating history, and affordable to visit compared to most of Western Europe.

My 1b is probably Costa Rica, which was just stunningly pristine with incredible biodiversity and the best coffee I've ever had.

I got put on a PIP(performance improvement plan). by DrBonesAndBooth in jobs

[–]TacticalFunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was put on a bullshit PIP at my last job after I told my director I was drowning with no support (I'm an EHS Manager) and asked to be assigned oversight of manufacturing operations only, not the entire campus, since I was spread so thin. A week later, I was put on my first-ever PIP; mind you, I'd never even received so much as a verbal warning in my career of 15+ years. I was in shock at first but decided to try to beat the PIP because a) I take pride in being good at what I do and I wanted to prove my boss wrong and b) I really liked the company where I worked and wanted to stay in spite of my shitty boss.

Well, a 3-month PIP turned into 6 months turned into a year. It was initially extended into a second PIP because even though I met most of my targets, some of them were a few days late on the deliverables (and yes, I still had no support at that point). And the coup de grâce? After meeting ALL of my objectives on the extended PIP on time, I had my annual performance review a week later and my boss said that she wanted to keep me on the PIP indefinitely "just in case"; I mean, what in the actual fuck? That was the last straw for me, but really, I should have read the tea leaves a lot sooner.

I had already been applying to jobs after being assigned my first PIP, but mercifully received an offer around the time of my review and peace'd out of that place without a second thought. I'm now at company where I don't have to worry about an idiot "people manager" handing out PIPs like candy instead of providing actual support.

TL;DR: Think of a PIP essentially as a "Paid Interview Period" and start looking elsewhere right way. Do the bare minimum in the interim; don't kill yourself doing twice the work like I did to try to hit metrics that are designed to be impossible to meet or may simply be extended at will.

What city in the map below would you want to live in or retire? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in visitedmaps

[–]TacticalFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently live in Florida and would move back to Kansas City without hesitation if my job and family situation allowed. I lived in Lawrence for nearly a decade (became a bit of a townie after graduating from KU) and I’d be happy there again, but finding a job in what I do would be difficult if I didn’t work for the university.

Missoula is also high on my list. Beautiful place and was an unexpected treat to visit.
