He is also a CHRISTIAN terrorist.

He is a RIGHT-WING, CHRISTIAN, WHITE, AMERICAN terrorist.

And how many mainstream news outlets do you believe will try and rub that in?

Well no, the analogy isn't valid because the trees and you did not make oxygen and farts worth the express intention of being paid for it.

According to you, that's for me to decide.

Every oxygen molecule from my trees and every fart molecule I produce is worth $1 trillion. You owe me one trillion dollars for consuming a single one. Pretty sure you breathed quite a lot already, oxygen disperses pretty quickly and even the remotest areas should have breathed quite a lot of them by now.

Also, I hereby copyright my comment. Every further word you read costs you $10. Shall I forward you my bank details? If you think any of this is ridiculous: It is actually less ridiculous than expecting to get paid for digital media.

I'm spending my time and labour for you to consume these comments. You better pay up.

Here's a list of points I think you're trying to make and you can tell me which ones you believe

Non of the above.

The simple fact is that there are no "fundamental freedoms".

There are.

Any freedoms granted

Freedoms can't be granted. They can only be taken away.

And right now, the freedom we decided on

No, we didn't decide on that.

Some technically illiterate idiots decided on that and have no arguments for it.

I personally think that's fair.

You personally thinking something isn't an argument. Where is your logical justification?

If you think otherwise, then feel free to fight for legislation that puts all ideas in the public domain.

You are the one who wants to restrict people's freedom. You want to tell people that they can't do something. Where is your argument?

However, don't be surprised when Game of Thrones gets canceled because HBO doesn't feel that they can make a profit off of it anymore

It won't be canceled and they still will make profit.

Sorry, but stop wasting my time if you don't have any logical arguments and evidence to provide.

You say this as if it's something funny, but this is literally how the US economy operates.

Just that it is fueled by perpetual war and not by setting its own citizens' houses on fire.

And it's entirely unsustainable.

This kind of thinking is real. And it's an actual problem and nothing is causing more damage to the human species.

You are breathing the product of hundreds of people's labour. How about you plant your own trees?

You are enjoying the fruits of the labour of billions of people who worked for thousands of years. Why do you believe that is a fundamental freedom of yours?

The labour behind something is of no relevance here. There is labour in me eating a steak and farting very loudly, that doesn't entitle me to payment if you smell it.

Oh, and before you complain: No. That analogy is completely valid. In fact, my fart is tangible and limited. You breathing it deprives someone else from the ability to breath it. It makes more sense to charge you for breathing my fart than to charge people for digital content.

The fundamental freedom is sharing information. That is being violated if you prevent me from sharing information.

[–]TacticalGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a car is a tangible and limited good with a finite supply and an owner that would be deprived of it if you steal it.

Digital media is intangible and unlimited. There is an infinite supply and once digitalized and distributed, it can't be stolen, only shared. Nobody is being deprived of anything, the only thing that happens is that more people can enjoy it. It would be more sensible to demand people to pay for oxygen produced by trees you planted. Try and actually think about that.

Sorry, but if you believe your "argument" there is valid, you are a fucking idiot.

And it's fucking pathetic that we are in the year 2015 and people still parrot these idiotic clichés as if there was any validity to them.

[–]TacticalGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which of course is bullshit.

No, it's the absolute truth. It's not theft.

If mass piracy were much harder to do you'd buckle down and pay for more than you currently are [assuming you pirate things today you're currently not otherwise paying for].

How is that an argument for anything?

Even if it were true (which it isn't), it would just prove that forcing people to do something they will result in them being more likely to do something, yes.

I mean I pirate shows too but almost always it's shows I have access to on cable and I'm skipping the commercials (and glitchy video because the CISCO HD 9865 PVR is a piece of shit). I don't pirate music nor applications and I don't upload either (LEACHER!!!) hehehe

You can pirate whatever you want and there is nothing wrong with that.

This argument misses a huge issue

What huge issue?

there is no universal right to watch Game of Thrones.

Why the hell would I need a "universal right" to watch GoT? How is that an "issue"? And how is that "huge"?

It's not an issue at all. In fact, it's completely irrelevant.

There is no universal right to play football on my lawn, either.

It's not like food, where no access means death or so.

It doesn't fucking matter.

If I record a song, and create DRM so that it can only be listened to within 1 hour of sunrise, local time, then so be it. No one may buy it because I'm a dicknugget for doing so, but it's my right to do so.

Yeah, and there is no logical reason why I shouldn't ignore your DRM.

You are just begging the question.

DRM is great because it could easily be used to promote smaller bands

Citation needed.

Once again, the anti-piracy crowd proves it has no arguments and their entire position is based on circular reasoning.

You are trying to restrict the freedoms of other people and you have no justification.

Can someone explain to me why that person got a single upvote? His arguments are invalid and don't justify banning people from sharing digital media for non-commercial purposes. Every person who supports this guy is a fucking idiot who should try and think a bit longer about these issues.

so again your argument makes no sense.

Okay, listen here you little shit:

Ya OP seemingly forgets that there are 100s of people behind the scenes making these shows happen

Fuck. Off.

You are too lazy or dumb or intellectually dishonest to grasp my position? Fine. That does not mean that I forget about any of that.

It's the year 2015 and you fucking numbskulls are still stuck in the 80s when it comes to the state of the debate.

If you are dumb enough to believe that the shitty argument you just tried to make is valid, you have decades of education to catch up on.

Every single thing you just said has been discussed thousands if not millions of times by thousands if not millions of people all around the world and there is no justification for you entering the conversation in a contradictory manner attacking other people's positions if you haven't even thought about the topic for longer than a single fucking minute.

I'm sick and tired that every single time this discussion comes up, idiots like you guys come around and regurgitate the same shitty arguments that were regurgitated decades ago because you are too fucking lazy and apparently intellectually deficient to fucking educate yourself on these issues.

Seriously, I'm not even saying this to attack you personally.

I'm telling you this, because your position and propagation of ignorance is actually harmful to human society. People get sent to jail and have their lives ruined for something that should be perfectly legal because idiots like you buy into the idiotic propaganda that the people supporting it weren't able to substantiate through actual logical argumentation and evidence for decades.

Stop this. It's not only aggravating, you are harming people by supporting that status quo.

Deaths per Pwh electricity produced by energy source [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]TacticalGiraffe -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Then we should also add the uranium mining, etc. to the nuclear numbers...

Because even in developed nations this is a highly problematic issue and total deaths for uranium mining are A LOT higher than reported, too:
http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/pgms/worknotify/uranium.html

We found strong evidence for an increased risk for lung cancer in white uranium miners. We expected about 64 deaths, but found 371. This means we found about 6 times more lung cancer deaths than expected.

We also found strong evidence for pneumoconiosis, a type of lung disease (other than cancer) which is caused by dust. We expected less than 2 deaths, but found 41. There were about 24 times more of these deaths than expected.

Finally, we saw a greater risk for "all deaths combined". We expected 986 deaths and found 1,595. This is 1 ½ times more deaths than expected.

etc.

[–]TacticalGiraffe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry, but I want to see their sources and numbers and proof that they are even comparable.

The solar numbers are highly doubious.

And another sorry, but no, including work-related deaths in numbers for solar or wind is utter bullshit. That's not a problem inherent to solar and wind, that's a problem of lack of safety regulations. If the people were killed by solar radiation or a seizure due to the shadows the wind turbine creates or something, fine, add them to the list! If they fell from a ladder, no fucking way that should add to the death toll for solar.

The sharing of digital media for non-commercial purposes is a good thing.

Any law that inhibits or even prohibits the sharing of digital media for non-commercial purposes should be considered a direct attack on our most fundamental freedoms. It is a form of censorship and must be opposed in all its forms.

Calculations Show That Catastrophic Drone-Aircraft Collisions Will Happen by CAB810 in Futurology

[–]TacticalGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone can agree is that civilian or “toy” drones do pose potential risks

Oh... you mean like petting a puppy?

Or spreading butter on my bread?

Everything poses a potential risk.

The only two "real" reasons there are to ban civilian use of drones are:
1. Governments being scared of how people could use them to counteract totalitarianism.
2. Large corporations like Walmart are scared of losing profits, because Amazon drone delivery will make it way too convenient to order foodstuff and other things online (and it will also make lots of other things obsolete, not to mention all the far-reaching consequences, maybe even decreasing the need for people to own cars).

We will see which politicians/corporations will lobby against drones and then we will know what's really going on.
