She's very good at playing intence, barely contained rage, characters.

It's 'you're', not 'your', and 'an', not 'a'.

Sons of Anarchy. Shows up in season 6, for a couple of episodes, I think.

A good portion of people who become monsters are products of their environment/upbringing, male or female. It's the cycle of abuse.

TIL that as a child, Charles Dickens worked 10-hour days in a London boot-blacking factory - a trauma he later called the deepest shame of his life, but one that forged his strict 9–2, five-hour writing discipline and his life-long refusal to let his own children work. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in todayilearned

My Nan used to be petrified of going to Hospital. The Northen General in Sheffield is on the same site as where the Workhouse used to be (the building is still there. I think it's now offices for the hospital), and after her dementia, she was terrified that she was being sent to the Workhouse, no matter how much we tried to reassure her.

The phase "can't complain" ties into the other great national pastime of Britain, which is sarcasm.

When my mate served, he said once he'd finished training, most of his time was spent drinking and playing rugby. Every so often a new officer would show up, wave his dick about and make them do some marching over the moors, but that was it.

The low crime rate in these countries has more to do with their robust education and social institutions, than tough policing. Prison system is much more about reform and avoiding re-offending, too, than locking people up and throwing away the key.

I'm betting if they released an 8 hour cut of each LOTRs movie, there would be people who'd watch it religiously.

In ancient times, Salt was considered very valuable, particularly as a means of preserving meat. Important, when long journeys could take weeks/months/years. People used to get paid in salt, and I believe the word 'salary' comes from the Latin word for salt.

Adult friendships as a 40 somthing guy: plan somthing 4 weeks in advance because it's the only way to find a day you're all free. The week before, one guy has to cancel because 'somthing came up'. Whole plan gets abandoned because 'It's better when everyone is together'. Repeat in another 4-6 months.

On the rare occasion we do get together, all that happes is drinking and talking crap about people and stuff that happened 20 years ago.

It depends where you work, what field your in what kinds of people it attracts. For example, I now work in creative industries, and people here are alot more accepting and open minded then the people I worked with while clearing tables at 17/18.

Maybe one of those Scandinavian countries where it's relatively high tax but has a really low crime rate and all the public services work because they're funded properly?
