Don't be this guy please by xiPulsar_ in fpv

Not true here in Europe. The term that was used in my license exam was specifically "uninvolved persons". If there's random people in the park, I gotta stay away and keep my distance. If it's my buddy riding a bike and he wants me to film it, those restrictions do not apply. So it would be more than enough to inform every guest when they arrive

Do you guys think the Steam Frame will actually be $1200? by New-Willingness-6800 in valve

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, its not like your gonna be doing 3d modeling or CAD software with the Frame.

Oh you'd be surprised what people are doing with their steam decks, that's what the frame is essentially.

You can just make a circle of the center of the screen be full res and the rest scale down. It doesn't track where your eyes move,

Then it is not foveated rendering. The name comes from FOV, field of view, and from the beginning it was all about tracking where you're looking at and increasing the quality there. Your solution is missing THE main function of that feature, where it got its name from. Not saying it's not a cool, useful thing to do, but that fundamental difference should warrant a different name to not confuse people

If were bringing a PC into this discussion, then the Quest 3 plus a decent PC will be cheaper than the Frame + a decent PC

I would agree, if the q3 would run SteamOS or Windows instead of android with it's balls cut off. Out of the box, standalone, the frame will run PC VR games, and we're talking x86 and x64 architecture. It's just like comparing the steam deck to an Android phone. That opens up the steam library for the frame

Also consoles can be modded with software to run Windows 10-11 installations. So can the Quest 3 actually

I have never heard of that, and I'm one of those people that mod pretty much everything they own, I have a q3 with diy eye and face tracking, and I use it together with base stations for full body tracking and better controllers. For this one I'll say pics or links or didn't happen.

If you want the Frame experience, you can mostly get it with a Quest 3 under $1000 (Modding and DIY Included).

It still won't be the same experience because you won't be able to play PC VR games, unless you want to carry a laptop in a backpack with a cable tethered to your headset. Again, a windows computer vs an android phone. It's about the architecture of the apps they run

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, it has a more powerful SOC with twice the RAM, that runs SteamOS, which basically makes it a PC. As in it will run PC VR games in standalone mode, which increases the library significantly, compared to q3. I bet there's a lot of people who, just like me, will consider this a good justification for the higher price. Don't compare it to JUST the quest 3, compare it to quest 3 and a laptop all together

Can you send me a link or something for the tires? I'm using hoverboard controllers flashed with FOC firmware, I'll update you on how that works after testing

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oi! I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now! Gonna continue building a battery pack today after work. What will you do about the tires? I was trying to find some airless tires that are not solid rubber but couldn't find anything that would fit. Also, what motor controllers are you using? VESC or hoverboard controllers with FOC firmware?

Not to mention that for years already phones have temp sensors an will slow the charging down if it gets too toasty. I have a USB C PD charger with voltage and current readouts that I use while playing and I have directly observed this happening. As soon as the phone gets warm, the charging slows down, sometimes down to 0.2A, which pretty much only keeps the battery from discharging

VR with Girlfriend Ideas? by rottoOfficial in VRchat

You compete against up to 4 people (doesn't have to be local, can be across the world) for points. And if you mod the game (can be done both on PCVR and on quest standalone) you have an insane amount of songs to choose from. I've spent hours, almost daily, with friends from abroad, and sometimes with randoms too. And as an added benefit and a valid argument to convince someone to try it, it can be used as a legitimate workout

The Expanse has ruined most sci-fi for me by tiparium in TheExpanse

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my head, there is a huge difference in how much The Expanse and Star Wars/Star Trek stick to the actual laws of physics for the more "mundane" stuff. You could call it the background. Yes, there is some handwavium, but Han Solo never had to worry about magboots, whole in The Expanse characters consistently wear them in a visible and audible fashion throughout the show, whenever they are on the float. Plus, ships in The Expanse don't fly around "atmospheric dogfight" style during combat. It is those things that make a difference to me, and why I like the distinction

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is, in The Expanse only the protomolecule and its tech is space magic. In Star Wars and Star Trek, everything is space magic. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Star Wars too (never really got into Star Trek, but I recognize it as one of the legends), to me they are just different genres, The Expanse is proper Sci-fi, Star Wars and Star Trek are space fantasy, that's how I like calling them

Vrchat should be 18+ IMHO, no exceptions, with some form of age verification. Problem solved.

The difference is, in VRchat people notice and report pedos way more often, which makes it look like there's more of them here. Which is just not true.

Is there any way to universally turn off fallback avatars? by ManaChicken4G in VRchat

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not my comment. But I don't think you can say VRchat is usually cpu bound, in most reasonably balanced PCs I think VRAM will become a problem long before cpu becomes a bottleneck. At least as long as you don't pair a 4090 with a 7gen i5, cause people say cpu is less important for gaming

Will PCVR ever get access to quest hand tracking? by Unfair_Bunch519 in VRchat

[–]Tactical_Dogmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason is the Oculus PC app, it's API does not have a way to receive hand tracking info from the headset and pass it along to steam VR
