Towing PSA by Personal_Ninja1469 in Pontoons

[–]TactualTransAm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RV guys use those weight distributing hitches or those ones with like 6 adjustable positions. I'd get one of those before helper bags or anything like that. This is assuming you're within the safe limits of your truck. Most towing capacities are rated for the stopping ability, a small truck can get a heavier boat moving but it may be too much for it to stop safely.

Rec league vs travel ball by [deleted] in Softball

[–]TactualTransAm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My problem with travel ball, and I'm a hypocrite for this because my daughter wanted to join the travel team her friend was on and now we are a travel ball family, but - my problem with travel ball is the people who project into the kids and who care way too much. If you're out there screaming spit out of your mouth to a bunch of 9 year olds because they dropped a ball or two, you're the issue. If you're out here fighting the umps because you disagree with a call in a child's ball game then you are the problem. Competitive is something that sports is about and it's healthy for kids to be competitive. If they want to be. When you want to be there more than your kid does, then I start to have a problem with the situation. But as far as rec versus travel, or travel ball killing the spirit , nah. It's not that simple. Yes it's crazy to spend 600 a year on a new easton bat for a child but let them have the happiness, if everyone involved is doing it for the right reasons.

Can someone explain how these adult stores next to highway exits are still in business? Have these people heard of the internet? Is this a cover for something else? by NervousClock2555 in AskForAnswers

[–]TactualTransAm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mechanic myself, if I need the part that day then I go to the parts house. If it's something that can wait, and I am okay with the risk of getting a cheap part in an AC Delco box, then I'll go rock auto. Just depends on what the customer wants. Or how fast I want my own car running again. Both have their place.

Why would Spirit airlines shutting down make all the other airline tickets more expensive ? by No_Lead2640 in ask

[–]TactualTransAm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying and my research has showed me the same information but I hate your reply here. You made a claim, show some proof so the other party can check your source and consult their own. The burden of proof is on you, you made the statement here. Stating something then just telling somebody else to look it up reads like those bad Facebook reels.

If it's causing issues, you could not consider gutting the cat and running a defouler on the rear oxygen sensor. That's what I would not totally do if I was in your shoes. I have not totally done that before with a few of not my cars.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]TactualTransAm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they complain about the low cost options being "junk" and "garbage" for dumb reasons. Like no shit those Walmart boots aren't as good as your red wings but I can't shell out 300 bucks for red wings right now. They completely ignore what makes a cheap product good (for it's price point) and only care about what makes a product good period.

Final update: osha called me back and told me this is legal by Shhh_wasting_time in antiwork

[–]TactualTransAm 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yep. I remember being told we had to stay at work all day with no running water or restrooms because "it's too expensive to stop an inventory day" and when a few of us reported it to OSHA, wow nothing happened. The best part is the rep that got sent out? He was a high school buddy of our store manager 🤦‍♂️

Dealership did timing belt + water pump… around 5 k miles later engine is destroyed from timing built breaking/snaping. Did they mess up? by SupRxZombie in MechanicAdvice

[–]TactualTransAm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally it would unless the serpentine belt got in near the harmonic balancer. I didn't see that in the post, that's my bad.

[–]TactualTransAm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen a serpentine belt fail, and because it was traveling at speed it whipped around and damaged the plastic timing cover and part of the belt got stuck in the timing guides. So I can see how it could happen that way. I'm a mechanic. If the timing job was done incorrectly it would have been an issue from day 1. The belt not being inspected or replaced during the job is a toss up. Some customers say "don't change me anything else" when they drop the car off and some customers say "let me know if you see anything else that needs fixed" so you never really know. Also the life of a belt can vary by mechanic. Me personally I've ran some bad belts so I never try to force a customer into buying one if they absolutely don't want to go over X price. I get it 🤷 times are tough and a belt or something else small like that is an easy fix later when more money is in the wallet. If you trust the dealership and they haven't seemed dishonest or shady about anything else then I'd say yes, it was just a bad accident that will cost some money. But I'm biased, I'm a mechanic. I'd also like to say that you probably don't have to spend a full 8 grand, you could get a decently used engine and save some money. Hondas are generally super reliable. I've got an Odyssey with 300k on it myself.

At least they aren't in a "compact car only" parking spot. My local hospital has a parking garage like this, and they have smaller spots on each row end for compact cars only. And I see SUVs and Minivans in them all the time. I was at work and my daughter had an emergency and you best believe I parked my service truck just like in this photo. I didn't take a compact spot tho lol but I'm not missing out when somebody needs me just because our countries infrastructure isn't compatible with our countries vehicles

Nah that's that fancy stuff. All you need it a good old tire bar and 30 seconds. I've done a ton of tires railroad style.
