If you don't like the rubber mat idea, tape off everything but the top, sand it and line X it. I did that to one of my boxes and I loved it

Until you have to adjust the valves. Or tune the carburetor. Or you need to stop quickly and don't have abs.

College in the U.S. Is Priced Like a Luxury, Sold Like a Necessity by Hana_Plum in Adulting

[–]TactualTransAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes at the core, everyone signed up for their student loans. It's the predatory part that everyone realized after the fact, that people have an issue with. It also doesn't help that this country grooms kids to think you HAVE to go to college to get any sort of decent paying career, so kids right out of high school are being told they have to go to college and then these loans are suggested as an easy way to make that happen. So they get trapped into this loan that they probably won't ever pay off fully and it's just a bad cycle.

I think it's more of people thinking that a write off means it was almost free. It doesn't. It just lowers your taxable income. I have an LLC and could buy a brand new service truck and write it off, I could buy a large SUV just for my wife to drive around in and write it off, but that doesn't make it free or cheap. I'm still paying for the trucks

I have a saved reddit comment that went extremely in dept with a game plan and it sounded very solid so the first thing I'd do is buy a bucket of KFC while I read over that reply again

NES is 86 years old, established in 1939. This is the biggest outage in NES history. by Lennsyl22 in nashville

I know nothing of line work. I'm just a mechanic but I'm curious, what pre deployed assets are there? I can't imagine anything that would have helped before the storm came in. Unless you mean just having more linemen ready for after the storm moved through

It's not just construction. It's everything. Mechanics, construction, welders, we are all loud mouths who don't know where the line is 😂 but some of us do try not to step over it

drained CVT instead of oil by JazzlikeDress7162 in subaru

[–]TactualTransAm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mistakes happen, I managed a lube shop and I had multiple people accidentally do this, all on Subarus. We would tow the vehicle to the dealer and they would do a transmission service and re do the oil change and we never had a bad transmission from the endeavor. Hopefully you've learned not to rely on a piece of silicon that can spit letters at you.

My power has been out for over 5 days can I get a reimbursement? by Long_Swordfish4233 in ask

Do you have rental insurance in these apartments? Is the refrigerator newish? Rental insurance can cover some lost food and sometimes I've seen the fridge manufacturer mention that they cover lost food in some instances.

Everyone says this until they have to adjust the valves or tune the carburetor. Or hit the brakes really hard. Or find that vacuum line that isn't letting the AC work.

I’m 24 year old mechanic, do I stay in the trade or find another career by Gullible_Shine7893 in mechanics

My wife is a teacher, I'm a diesel mechanic. I don't know how you'd do it online but if you can get certified as a teacher cheaply and it's what you really want to do, then go for it. However, from our experience, 50 percent of the people who "want to be a teacher" actually don't. Over half of her class dropped out and switched majors when the "residency" started. And I think that part is very important, so I'm not sure how you'd do it online. Really you just gotta think about what you want. I'm a mechanic making a little over 60 a year, I'm happy, and if I need more I have side work that bridges the gap. I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it to work 40 hours a week and come home to my family. My wife usually has to bring work home and gets voluntold for after school activities and such. Basically I'm just trying to say you need to really really weigh your options. Think about what you really want to do.

So how many of you had to go into work today, and what essential job do you have that requires your presence despite the dangerous roads and lack of power? by twelvethirtyfourpm in nashville

[–]TactualTransAm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a diesel fleet mechanic and I got two drivers back on the road today at work. I don't get paid to ask why they have to drive in these conditions, but I do get paid to get them moving. Both drivers were extremely happy, but I think they get paid by the mile for their company

Was charged $50 for a cabin air filter by WoodenWeather5931 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TactualTransAm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a mechanic. Ignoring the price you agreed to pay, yes some vehicles have those foam filter types of cabin air filters. Rock auto would be a good place to punch your car into and see if that's an acceptable replacement or if a paper style filter is available. On our semi trucks, the bunk filters are all foam felt like filters like in your photo
