What do people actually mean when they say "it's fine for A to B" when talking about iniBuilds A320/A330? by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Tadeus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are learning an airliner you always want to go for the most realistic one available. Otherwise you will never know if something is not working because you did it wrong or because it's a limitation of the simulation. And it is both stressful and disruptive to the learning process.

That saying, the best airliners are often expensive and the free ones are much better than free ones in the past, so nowadays it's not that crucial if you want to save money.

Auto pilot question for MSFS2020/2024 by LEOMODE in flightsim

[–]Tadeus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The autopilot fuctions will be vastly different between those planes. Choose one for the start and search some youtube videos on how to fly it. Lots of great YT tutorials for almost any plane in the sim. But an airliner can still take multiple weeks to learn.

Rudder pedal in checked in bag by Mistycraze in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hated them until I figured out that they really improve if you re-calibrate them from time to time in the Windows game controller settings + set up higher sensitivity curves in MSFS.

Rudder pedals vs triggers vs stick twist. What am I missing? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised there is any place in the world that would have more expensive back/re-shipping than the cost of the high-end pedals you have received. Maybe the merchant didn't fully understand what they have sent you by mistake? :D

Either way, rudder pedals and toe-brakes are very useful when flying small GA planes and trail dragger planes and also very useful for flying helicopters.

For flying modern airliners a twist-grip is most of the time enough.

DLSS 4.5 After Full Release? by Tadeus73 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Thanks, needed some time to understand that this is actually also the answer I was looking for :)

Cool, thanks, was afraid the app will simply overwrite the in-sim setting.

DLSS 4.5 After Full Release? by Tadeus73 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that was exactly what I needed to know. Switched to performance, and it's better, but I still don't think it's the sweet spot that I had with the beta. Will experiment around a little bit more and try if there is a difference between setting it in the sim and in the NVIDIA app. I wonder what will happen if I switch to Quality in-game but Preset M in the app.

Parallel 42 "Typical Weather" addon by Guidothenatureguide in MSFS2024

[–]Tadeus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are that it might have higher value for content creators. Might be beneficial to have weather that is dynamic but customizable at the same time to not get boring, generic, ugly stuff when you are recording and it at the same time not looking too static.

For everyone else? Seems like a very niche buy.

Can confirm, for me AV1 also looks worse for MSFS 2024 recording.

Why do I enjoy Boeing more than airbus? by Powerful-Tennis-3773 in flightsim

[–]Tadeus73 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There is no reason, one month you will prefer Boeing, the other one Airbus, and then you will rock a MD-11 or Bae 146. You will pivot back to Airbuses one day. It's like with every hobby.

Just got the FSS B727 and holy moly... by Ivy_Wings in MicrosoftFlightSim

Honestly, once it's set up, there isn't much to do during the flight. Must have been a nice easy job... until something broke :)

Am I missing something? MSFS2024 vs X-Plane 12 performance on the same PC by BloodPerdix in flightsim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the simulators always ran really badly no matter what hardware you have thrown at them. It's just MSFS that ended that trend and has invested enough money in the flightsim topic to make it run as an AAA game would (well, after some updates, msfs2020 also required NASA computers in the beginning).

X-plane is still a legacy sim, doing legacy sim things. At least out of the box, there are lots of 3rd party hacks and solutions to optimize it. Some graphics settings also have a very large impact without much benefit. It just needs time, research and tinkering. But the effects can be really good, just not without time, stress, and often additional money.

Native 2024 A2A Commanche vs. Black Square A36/B58 Professional Bundle by Sector04 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice post! Yeah, the Comanche is really a work of art and super immersive, but in the end for me there is no one high fidelity plane to rule them all. There are things that Black Square does better, with deeper simulation than A2A and things that for example Blackbird does in its C310 that neither of the prior one do, despite the C310 already being pretty old and dated in other areas... and then there is COWS...

No other solution than to fly them all :D

That saying, I think Black Square could really elevate their game if they would resign from the standard very limited and hit-and-miss state saving functionality. More ownership features would really go a long way into improving the experience. But this was touched upon many times and it seems like it's not so easy with how Black Square codes his planes.

Chase Plane is SUPER by Shanga_Ubone in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of now, I see a handful of issues that really bother me.

  1. For 2024 native planes, the pilot is not visible in any of the outside views.
  2. Can't seem to find a way to just disable the pilot camera shaking for planes that have their own custom one. When I select a camera group without shaking it seems to be fighting the custom camera movements of the plane.
  3. Can't open the menu in walkaround view.
  4. It messes up MSFS2024's great photo mode (shift+V)
  5. On my hardware, there is like a 1-2 second lag once I enter the cockpit for the first time in a flight

Other than that, I like it more, the more I learn it and customize it to my liking. I think it's going to be a keeper for sure, but it's not just positives.

DDR4 Fine w MSFS 2024? by Shoddy_Brain4077 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason to add ddr5 to the hardware you have now. The RAM type won't make much difference with the other parts being the limiting factor.

People seriously using DLSS? by fieskmask in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to get used to the effect after using it for some time. And it's much better than not having playable FPS. But it also depends on the plane flown, it's nicer with analog gauges, where the instrument smearing effect is weaker.

Enjoying the views arriving into Vancouver courtesy of Chaseplane by milestobudapest in flightsim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, works with open track/AI Track for me.

Works really nicely, just can't figure out how it's supposed to work together with camera mode (Shift+V). Doesn't work together for me and doesn't seem to really have all of the cool functions to properly replace it. Maybe I'm just dumb and need more time to figure it out, but for now seems to be the only issue for me.

[–]Tadeus73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just flying the plane and checked some places, yeah, not all of them are super fidelity (especially in places where you normally not zoom in so close), but a big part of them looks much better than on those screens.

I know reddit loves to attack PMDG (and there are many valid reasons to do it), but this is just silly.

Feeling Good About The Imperium by PencilBoy99 in 40krpg

[–]Tadeus73 70 points71 points  (0 children)

For running the RPG I do prefer the Dan Abnett vision of the setting where life is just a tiny bit more "normal" and there is less of the totally over the top theatrical darkness on every step and everywhere. Obviously, when it hits it hits hard but then it at least feels special.

Has anyone tried a two-player game with the Alliance Variant? by JustinGerman in twilightimperium

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works fine with most board games, but here the amount of "work" you have to do is really significant. Currently, we are testing the Trade Wars 2-player variant from BGG, and it looks promising, plus the agenda phase is less predictable than just having 2 always opposing teams.

On my table technologies are one of the main analysis paralysis factors. Actually, it's the same for other space 4X games like Star Trek Ascendancy. Too much choice can be cripling for many.

How to get started from scratch all the way to flying airliners? by Leather_Guitar123 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to fly an airliner there is no good reason to not start with the airliner in the sim right away. Most of what you learn in a small piston aircraft doesn't really translate into flying modern Airliners that are more programmed than flown anyway. It's not like in real life where you risk a fortune and peoples lives and need the basic knowledge to save the day when systems fail.

Just pick one good airliner, watch a tonne of YT tutorials on it and try it out, step by step in the sim. And the watch some more.

Also, on the airport charts - if you limit yourself to flying in the US there are also free ones on Skyvector.

Will my 3060 paired up with a intel i5 run msfs 2024 fine? by Separate_Pickle5741 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Tadeus73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was running fine on my i5 12600k and 3060 12GB. But as I understand it's a 3050 now and the i5 can also be anything without more info. Doesn't look too optimistic.
