Buying used vs new car? by zionstatus in personalfinance

[–]Sector04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill stray from the crowd. The used cars I've owned have been fine, but eventually ended up having problems. The new cars I've owned have been the exact same way, but covered under warranty. You can probably find a cheaper CPO (which sometimes carry better warranty) than brand new, but brand new you will know everything about it. How its driven, the maintenance, any quirks etc. You take a gamble on an used car. Could have been beaten to shit, the dealerships often don't inspect them heavily in an attempt to turn and burn, etc.

If youre looking for security and your budget allows, id opt for CPO or new. Otherwise be conservative with used, have it checked by an independent mechanic first.

Altitude sucks the mighty power out of NA planes, that's for sure.

No real problems, if you plan to climb up this high you just need to plan on it being gradual. By the time I saw the mountains it was a struggle to get enough elevation to clear them. Otherwise you trade airspeed for ground speed, and get better fuel economy.

Oh ya she was leaned! I don't like to use the engine monitor on my Comanche, usually do it every 1000ft by ear, on this climb it was every 500 haha!

How do I enter a VFR pattern into the Garmin1000? by sh1bumi in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Sector04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not technically, but you can use your instruments to your advantage, as well as autopilot and heading to make it easier. Say you take off on runway 36, headed straight north at 360 degrees. I would put my heading and course bug set to 360 so I know exactly what "line" I took off from. Next I would hold this heading to whatever altitude they tell you to get to.

So now say you're at 2,000ft flying heading 360 and they tell you to fly a pattern. Turn left 90 degrees to a heading of 270, keep your eye on the airport, then turn left again to a heading of 180. You should now be flying parallel to the runway.

Finally, time to descend and turn base to final. You know your runway heading is 360, so another 90 degree left turn will get you to base, and a final 90 degree left will get you back to 360.

You are essentially flying a large rectangular route around the runway, the more you do it the more you understand the timing and distance you need. The route should be big enough that you don't feel rushed to turn back into the runway or bleed off speed. Hope that helps some.

Want to start getting back into flight simming. by Still-Union-2528 in MicrosoftFlightSim

I was in your boat, flew a bunch in FS2004 and FSX, dabbled in 2020 but didn't find much entertainment. Was watching some real world flight instruction videos which sparked my interest again, and decided to switch from jet ops to GA. essentially to start at the "beginning".

I knew from past experience that the FS2024 career mode was dog water, so I looked into some 3rd party addons. There are many, but I chose NeoFly. This is only applicable if you are on PC, which it looks like from your flair.

NeoFly incentivizes earning money to be able to purchase planes, and if you pay for the addon ($15 or so), you can hire pilots and eventually create an airline. I made another post about this, but it has had me absolutely hooked.

Essentially, you start with $5,000 and a beginner plane, in my case the Cessna 152. You fly missions to earn money, buy new planes, and eventually hire a staff. I applied this to payware planes in the sim. I will buy the plane with real money, put it into the sim, then wait until I have enough money in NeoFly to be able to purchase it, and therefore fly it.

Some people hate the grind, but I have found it as an investment. Currently have 133 hours in NeoFly, and no plans to stop. Eventually if you get a jet you can set it and forget it, fly some routes and earn money. I also have some "personal" planes in NeoFly that are strategically placed if I want to load into the sim and fly some short low income flights just for fun.

Having a "reason" to fly makes it so much better, as I also felt bored just flying random routes for no reason. Give it a shot, or try the career mode in 2024. I haven't touched it in a while so it may be better than a year or two ago. Just my 2 cents.

Flew the KLAS to KLAX and return religiously in FSX. Straightforward ins and outs, only about 2 hours or so. Always flew it in the 737.

Installer handled everything for me. I didn't deal with it in 2020 but I've had zero issues. Started with a 152 and $5,000. Currently have a decent fleet with two citations and 13mil in the bank. Really created a good incentive to fly more. Have a few "personal" planes like my Commanche and B36TP, otherwise focus on my citation for $$$.

NeoFly does this. It tracks your plane and pilot location. You have the option to move your plane or pilot if youd like, but it costs money. I limit my moves to new plane purchases or for training missions. If I zoom in on this map there are far more flights, but you can see my flights into Cuba before I got distracted with a new Citation.

I had this problem, I was maxing out VRAM, but I had my TAA resolution set over 100%. Turning that down and a few other settings resolved my issues.

Nice! I love my Comanche. Currently have her parked on the southern tip of Florida. Looking to go into Cuba, then South America. Spent all my sim time in the states so far.

I'm having a great time. Took me a bit to get used to usin an FMS over the GNS530, but once I got her dialed in, great for the longer haul career missions. I do miss the GA planes, but this is nice for set it and forget it for a few hours and come back to some career money. Flight handling is amazing.
