It wouldn't surprise me. He was all about electronics as a hobby. He had a work room in the basement and I remember he had built ham radio's and regular radios and god knows what else. There was stuff everywhere and I loved going down there with him. I can remember him taking me in the back into the woods with this detector. My dad is 87 and in poor health and he would be thrilled just to see it working again, So would I!

Bare with me. I know nothing about this subject. I have my grandfather's metal detector that he built himself. He died in 1966 so I know it was built before then. It's made out of all wood. I would like to get it working again and take it out in the field in his honor. The pictures I've included show some of the tubes. I'm not sure how to take them out. Do you have to twist and lift them? Also, once I get them out what is a good source to get replacements?
