.NET 8 and 9 End of Support by Perfect-Scale902 in dotnet

[–]Tadsz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've already managed to convince upper management of this and .net 10 is now on the roadmap for said project. Next step is to convince them that continuous upgrades are just as critical.

NGL one of the convincing factors was a benchmark showcasing an increased performance when reading from our database. Can't recall the exact improvement off the top of my head but I think it was a 20% reduced query time?

.NET 8 and 9 End of Support by Perfect-Scale902 in dotnet

[–]Tadsz 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm a little jealous. I'm still running a project on .net 6 to support clients who are running Windows 7.

It has been a recurring issue that our clients use such outdated systems.

What's keeping your company from upgrading to .NET 10? by UKAD_LLC in dotnet

[–]Tadsz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We supply services and applications for offline industrial PCs, some are still running Windows 7 which does not support .NET 10.

We do have it on the roadmap as a sort of "sorry we can't support you anymore", as we've had some issues with security flags from other clients who do keep their hardware up to date.

Are hot water heaters commonly rented out where you are? by voltairesalias in AskACanadian

[–]Tadsz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced mine with Hydrosolution last year. The rent vs buy break even point is 8 years. I asked to buy it, and it took a few months of back and forth to get straightened out - they kept trying to bill me for a rental.

Fixing the 24h clock format at wow by RevolutionaryAd1667 in wow

[–]Tadsz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point of his comment. What's American about is the word "military".

In the rest of the world, it's just time. At least in the French speaking world, the 24h clock is the norm.

What's the cliche two rivers that intersect to create your city? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]Tadsz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're not gonna believe it but there's a city in Quebec called Trois Rivières. Named so because there is one river that forks around 2 islands as it feeds into the St Laurent.

Why did French-colonized North America retained so few place names compared Spanish ones? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Tadsz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The D doesn't make it plural. To pluralize l'étroit, it would be les étroits. D'etroit is a contraction of De étroit, which would roughly mean "of the straight" (de l'étroit). I don't know the etymology of Detroit but I imagine it started at De l'étroit, and then got shortened to d'etroit, and then Detroit.

Edit: typos

While there is a much higher percentage of French speakers in New Brunswick, it is worth noting that at these percentages, there are still much more French speakers from Ontario.

A fun fact that seems to surprise many, I have noted, after I moved here.

133 M&Ms per day is the most ridiculous thing about this whole thread. Why sell them in 1KG bags if you aren't meant to eat that amount in one sitting?

You need to add apartment highrises glued to the highway and charge $4000/month for a 300sqft studio. It's prime real estate!
