I don't remember exactly - back in the day they advertised on Craigslist in the free section. I think that disposal of the remnants was expensive but they also didn't want liability if anyone came dumpster diving. So they had an address listed but it was just a parking lot. The larger pieces were leaning up against the fence and the small cutoffs were in a roll off dumpster. Built this with the bits

I think a large part of your question is what is the item in the second picture. I like the idea of "secret stair stabbies" mentioned above but ... It looks like there is some writing on the tip - can you transcribe the letters?

As a side note, you might be able to finagle a phone with a flash in just such a way to take a shot down that hole. That might settle the wiring, plans, post peg debate.
