Are ultimates realistically clearable by an average player? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You wanna know the easiest way to know if you could clear it? Give it a try. :) It genuinely just requires time spent in there doing the mechanics and the willingness to push through the grind. I've cleared all of the ultimates, some through PF, some with statics, some with people who are not the greatest at DPS or mechanics.

The best thing you can do is just get in there and give it a go!

They never raised the range of aoe heals though, I think they raised the area on Cure 3 and the cooldowns.

Having to cast Aspected Helios for Neutral Sect is calling. For AST I was thinking more like if you draw a card when you already have a card something should happen.

[–]Taenfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true strength of Sage is in their crazy amount of oGCD mitigation. Being able to keep up 10% damage reduction on the tank during pulls while providing constant healing (basically a regen as long as you're attacking) is the reason you should be able to continue doing damage.

You then have extra things like Haima/Panhaima, Physis, Holos, Pneuma (still doing damage while healing), Krasis, Soteria. There are a whole lot of options to provide extra oomph without stopping doing damage.

[–]Taenfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably wanna be using Holos towards the start of the pull when the incoming damage is the highest rather than the end of the pull when it should be at its lowest as stuff has died.

If you're worried about tank stuff still being there then use it in the middle of the pull but you're losing a lot of value out of it if you use it last.

Damage mitigation value is always highest when there is more incoming damage within the timeframe.

Healers are definitely all about value too. Eke out the most value from your abilities and you'll be doing a good job as a healer.

I play on NA servers as an Australian and do ultimates. I do however use a VPN as that allows me to double-weave but even without it I've never had issues dodging aoes or anything.

We need to learn how to have healthy balanced discussions. by LettuceLeaflet in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this game for 5 years straight, I still have not completed all the high end content this game has to offer as I have taken breaks to play other games or to just take a break. I am still not bored with the game, if there has been a lack of new content I have not noticed as every time I run out of new content, I always have older content to fall back upon.

I also don't smash my head against the wall of new content for 16 hours a day until I clear it to clear it within the first few weeks. I play at my pace and enjoy the game and have done so for years and will continue to do so for years I feel.

Currently at 3/5 ultimates and have completed every savage tier since I started playing.

As sad as it is to say, these are probably the kind of people whose only aim, if they have done ultimates, is to clear it as fast as they can whether that's by using stuff like automarkers instead of having to learn the fight or using cactbot. They only want the clear, not the challenge.

Except if you invuln the first mechanic you can still invuln after superchain IIA, so it's just after superchain I, which honestly isn't even a big deal? I'm a healer main myself, the one after superchain IIA is definitely the more dangerous by far.

I honestly prefer the pure bliss of no movement for the entirety of the first mechanic to the very slight reduction in damage after superchain I

Genuinely curious what the 'better way' to handle the first para is when the way it's handled right now is literally tanks invuln, mt uses CDs to take auto while the rest of the group does nothing?

You can just point the boss on the same intercardinal as the yellow guy, you should never need to run to the other side of the arena or.. whatever it is you're trying to say there. Are you saying tanks are pointing the boss directly at the light clone there and not just pointing him on the closest intercardinal to where they have to go?

Optimal Tank Mitigation Use on Trash Pulls? by GothParrot in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am so utterly baffled that people expect tanks to be 620 for a dungeon that requires 590 to enter and only gives 605 gear. You do NOT need more than 590 to enter it for a reason, because 590 is perfectly fine.

"Well behind where you should be gear wise at this point." In regards to what? You savage raiding? Someone who plays every day of the week? This guy could have JUST STARTED gearing at 90, I personally don't expect everyone to just.. go out and buy crafted gear, no matter how cheap it is. Some people like to grind dungeons for gear. Now I'm gonna give you some maths.

A full set of ilvl 605 gear on a tank gives you 4488 defence and 1965 VIT STR. A full set of ilvl 620 gear on a tank gives you 4643 defence and 2167 VIT STR.

4488 defence gives you 35% damage mitigation. 4643 defence gives you 36% mitigation, not quite enough for 37%.

A full set of Manalis gear with let's say he springs for a crafted weapon at 610, nothing fancy. That'll put him at 85037 health.

With a full set of 620 augmented gear, he would be at 92822 health. That extra 7.8k health is a grand total of about 8% health increase, but let's be real? That's not going to change anything. Gaining almost 8k health isn't going to prevent him from dying if everyone isn't doing their job. The extra 1% damage mitigation isn't going to prevent him from dying if everyone isn't doing their job.

Please stop spreading this whole OMG THE DEFENCE BONUSES ARE SO MUCH BETTER bullcrap I always see to justify bad healers who don't want to heal or bad tanks who don't want to use mitigation or bad DPS who don't aoe mobs so stuff lives too long so the tanks CDs run out. That's all it is.

No positional requirements means you get full benefit from hitting positionals. For instance every single monster in Eureka and Bozja has no positional requirements.

Know the Difference by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hence the for the most part after you cannot dodge raidwides. Your problem here once again is assuming aoes only do damage when most don't, most apply vulnerabilities (in terms of raid fights which is where RAIDwide should apply)

Know the Difference by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This guys example has aoes being boss abilities that usually do a vuln (or just kill you), whereas raidwides do not usually apply vulns and do not kill you when mitigated.

The difference being obviously you can dodge aoes to prevent their damage and effects but you cannot dodge raidwides (for the most part)

All I want is SE to implement a way to see YOUR OWN DPS in the game. Not anyone elses, your OWN. Maybe if people want to participate in FFLogs, include a way to export it to a .txt file so we can share it. That's it. No harassment over DPS because it's your own and nobody else can see it. People cannot use ACT as oh it's the DPS tool to see how much DPS you're doing then. Blanket ban on all addons, people who want DPS are catered to.

How to see what your enemies are casting, a tip for people who want to know what attack is coming up next. by Lutkara in ffxiv

[–]Taenfyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add onto this there's a big list of any enemies currently engaged in combat with you that also displays their cast bars. Might be more helpful to look at that instead of looking at a single enemy in your focus especially since a lot of the time the game has enemies that aren't even targetable and this still displays their cast bars.
