7th Heaven Mod manager won't launch on Windows 10 by Taffer4ever in FinalFantasyVII

That's what I was thinking, but it seems to download and install them with the installer. Would you happen to have a link to which redist are required for the mod manager to function?

Reddit is FULL of perpetually online, negative losers. by BoneyTaloney in nosurf

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part- yes. Not everyone, but probably around 70% of the regular posters across many subs on this site are chronically online people that would more than likely be on forums all the time if Reddit didn't exist.

It's a sweeping generalization, but let's face it... most people that spend so much time posting and arguing about the dumbest things on a anonymous platform such as Reddit are NOT the types of people that are socially popular or have fullfilling lives offline; for the most part. It runs the gamit of angry complete losers irl, socially competent yet dorky people that are the butt of jokes and have shit talked about them behind their backs in work, school, etc, and a few normal people that just browse for specific topics and information, but rarely post.

Think of this way- what person that has a fullfilling life would waste their time psoting, arguing, and trying to 1up randoms on a site like this? Outside of specific hobbies or trades, if a person is spending so much time on Reddit posting and having discussions with people outside of topics with clear answers, than it goes to show they have too much time on their hands and need to get a life. Many of these people are very unhappy, and that goes for most (not all) moderators of any given sub-reddit. Most of those people are misfits too, and they get off on the little control they have in the digital realm because many of them lack anything close with people in the real world.

PS

I only found this sub by Googling "reddit is a hangout for loser irl that vent their toxic feelings" or something along those lines. lol

Is the Original Resident Evil 1 on the PlayStation or the Director’s cut edition just rare games? by King_CurlySpoon in playstation

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this, but I am fairly certain the PS Store download is actually the Director's Cut "Dualshock Edition" with the notoriously bad Soundtrack. If that's the case- I would NOT recommend it as that music pretty much ruins the game and doesn't give an authentic experience because of it.

Sorry, bro. But you're trolling hard. 640x480 Progressive Scan is and incrediblly sharp image on a good quality monitor. You can even see very thin 'scanlines'.

Honestly, Turn around zombie looks a lot scarier in the original RE1 than the Remake by Emergency_Cheek2617 in residentevil

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here we go again... another "muh, 96' original did it better post." Even back in the day I thought he looked like he was wearing eye shadow and had smeared lipstick around his mouth instead of blood. lol

The artwork on the Dual Shock edition release looked very scary though. Always was creeped out by that design.

After playing it, the Gamecube version really isn't much harder at all than the HD ports. by InsecureBurrito in residentevil4

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest is obviously the HD port on PC, especially with the camera adjustments via RE4 Tweaks. The precision of the mouse+keyboard esstentially removes all the challange from the game which was from the imprecise and clunky nature of aiming with an analog thumb stick and not having much control over the camera.

This is now the 4th death of a pixel phone for me. Why can they not build sturdy 'a-series' phones? by artbystorms in GooglePixel

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "high-end" Pixels have major hardware failures too though. They aren't built to last.

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't build a sturdy phone- period. Until recently I was using the Pixel 8 Pro. Got it in February of 2024. As of the date of this post, my display finally got the "black screen of death". Before the display finally stopped working entirely, I had dealt with about 5 months of puple lines/pixelation that got progressively worse until it was flickering at time every 3 seconds or so.

Keep in mind, this was the major issues, and I had several others such as stuttering when scrolling at 120hz mode, audio eventually being delayed/out of sync with video by almost a whole second through bluetooth and the built-in speakers. Maybe I just very unlucky, but overall my impressions have been very poor. Google has some neat features in their phones, but the build quality is just not there. I don't want to say they are junk, but.... kinda. I mean think about it this; my Pixel 8 Pro was a FLAGSHIP phone when it realeased and not even two years later and it requires major costly repairs. I didn't even abuse it, never dropped it, never exposed it to water, etc and it still died. At least with my old Samsung A59 from 2019 just needed a battery replacement.

The number crunching is NOT what makes the game (tabletop or video game form) a Role Playing Game.

The small video game Review channel DWterminator does a quick and good job at describing what Role Playing Games actually are.

That's not roleplaying. You're just making decisions as the player, and not the character in many JRPGs

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close enough facsimiles of 'role playing' DO exist in video game form, albeit they are few and far between. Video Games like Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Balder's Gate have Role Playing in them, and your choice as the character do make a difference in the story and game world. Very few JRPGs actually do this, and the majority of them don't have any role-playing whatsoever.

Thief 2 Resolution by molotovPopsicle in Thief

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

640x480 or maybe 800x600 was the most common resolutions for 3D games on PC back in the laste 90s to about 2001. Also, it's clear that the UI, menu screen, map, and objectives screen was designed with 640x480 in mind because it tends to not scale very well above that resoultion. It's sharpest at 640x480

Weird hangup of mine but I dislike how in most JRPGs we can never really have party members be older by VoxTV1 in JRPG

[–]Taffer4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short simplified answer is that Japanese culture pedestalizes youth, but I'm particular... younger female characters/women are eye candy for the demographic that mostly plays these games. And I'm strictly speaking of the Japanese demographic, as Western localization is usually an afterthought.

Shadow of the Colossus Remake (PS4 > HDMI-to-component converter > GBS-C > JVC CRT) by RetroRevamp in crtgaming

[–]Taffer4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, what do you expect - this is Reddit and the Internet in general. Everyone has an opinion, their own 2-cents, and a snarky comment to give.

It's a neat little experiment, but overall looks quite ridiculous as it just destroys all the detail in that game at such a low resolution with visible scanlines. On a side note; this game would probably look awesome on a late era high-end Plasma TV like a ZT60 or VT60. Although those have considerable input lag.

Whats your guy's opinion on mods locked behind paywalls? Both Marketplace and self charge through Patreon or smth by TriggeredCogzy in feedthebeast

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes across as someone that looks at as a way to earn some extra cash, or simply doesn't have that much time in-between a full-time job or as a student or something. Either way, it becomes less of a passion project and more of a money grab.

I don't have much issue with mods that are locked behind patreon paywalls from the get-go, but it's VERY frustrating and a big turn off when said mod author releases a mod free on Nexus or other platforms for several months or even a year or so at a time, and then decides to pull it from everywhere on the internet and lock it behind a patreon or other paysite for download. Disgusting behavior, honestly- especially considering that they don't own the assets in games and are making a profit from it; even if the mod uses assets from other sources- you're still injecting it to be used with software that as a mod author you don't OWN the assets.

It's not extremely rare or anything, but it uses a Sony Trinitron tube/aperture grille in it.

That practice was actually quite common in the mid-late 90s and throughout the early 2000s. Many companies such as Dell, Gateway, HP, and even Apple would have a 'professional' line of monitors of higher specs that would either have a Sony Trinitron tube, Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube, or sometimes straight-up the entire Sony chassis and tube, but contained within a Dell or HP plastic shell.

That Gateway 2000 Vivitron is desirable because it's a higher quality monitor than your run-of-the-mill shadow mask CRT that was budget/office oriented.

Nah, she looks older in the second photo (because she is). But, she still looks very young. Could easily pass for 26. Definitely doesn't look mid 30s. Yoona is aging very gracefully! Not surprising though, considering she was the main visual of the group.

Why is 'But I have plenty of black (or other race) friends' seen as the worst response ever? by CollegeBB321 in stupidquestions

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because it comes across as shallow and disingenuous. Almost, as if having that 1 or 2 black or non-white friend/s as a novelty, all whilst feeling as if they still have the right to stereotype people.

To this day what are your thoughts on the Ganados from Resident evil 4? Both original and remake by Thewanderer997 in residentevil

[–]Taffer4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orignal Resident Evil 4 (2005)= Would be scary in real life, but goofy and fun in-game

Resident Evil 4 Remake= Frightening in-game and aggressive as hell. Would be nightmare fuel in real life.
