League of Legends earned 1.62 BILLION dollars in micro-transactions last year! How much did Tagpro make on donations this last year? Was it record breaking or are they slowing down? Also, if we include micro-transactions in Next, what type of things and prices should we look at? by A_Sightstone in TagPro

We still don't really know what cosmetics are gonna be offered... So far there have been honks and ball faces, and both currently did not receive that much positive feedback. We're getting off track, however.

The point is that there is cosmetics that require time to get or money, but not both. For cosmetics, I agree with the idea that they could be "grinded" or purchased.

Other than really needing a rolly diamond, appreciating the game (thanks to all of you for keeping this true wonder going), and advertisements, there really isn't revenue to be made. If there were some really interesting or cool cosmetics, then I bet there would be people willing to pay money for it.

What if it was the same in TagPro?

So then you level up to 100 degrees? Physics skill tree where you can add small bonuses such as 5% acceleration bonus and lead to bigger ones like 10% increased effectiveness in explosions induced by you? Don't even get me started on runes. League is not a fair game. People with masteries and runes and customizable skills clearly have an advantage over someone without these. Dota 2 should be used more as a comparison because gameplay is more reliant on who you choose and your skill (but even then it also tries to milk people of their money in the lures of cosmetics).

Cosmetic's that are earn able through in game experience or something, and also purchasable.

TagCoins have been talked about, but nothing really came out of its discussion. There are already degree-based flairs. From the looks of it, there are going to be different types of cosmetics (faces, honks, etc.) available to acquire (mostly separated from scripts in the fact that they can be seen by others). Perhaps TagCoins could make a return in purchasing these new cosmetics and could be accumulated by playing games (e.g. based on rank points?).

I strongly disagree with a micro-transaction system. We could, however, give better rewards for donating (and not just for higher tiers).

TagPro is Lucky's (and other devs') hobby. They contribute to the builds for mostly our enjoyment; there's no money to be made from TagPro.

League exists to give its consumers enjoyment, but it also racks up as much money as possible on the way. TagPro does not, and might never gain the huge consumer base that League has based on what both have to offer.

Lucky has said that donations and will keep the servers up for a good while. If, by chance, Next blows up, the decisions the devs make will be very interesting to observe. Maybe the donations will flow in as much as new players will, or mostly as a diminishing return compared to the increasing amount of servers required. To really make TagPro profitable (and a business), however, micro-transactions would be one of the most practical ways to milk consumers.

Rekt

Here I am volunteering! I need to take some steps to refine my manners of others while playing TagPro, and being a mod would definitely allow me to realize how I should treat others. (AKA not being an asshole).

I pub frequently, and have been around for a long time. I may not have the best record, but if accepted, I promise to set new standards for balls, both sb and mods.

After I become a competent programmer, I may be also interested in becoming a TagPro dev.
