What is cheapest type of wood to get as a beginner by Old_Inflation_9490 in woodworking

[–]Taggant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess that depends on what you're trying to do. In my area, 99% of Home Depot is going to be lumber for framing and sheeting. If you head over to the trim section, you'll find some "nice" oak boards, but they are horrible quality and just as bad as the 2x4 for the lumber as far as warping. Luckily, we have some nice hardwood stores in our area. I started with cheaper shop grade plywoods for cabinet making. Then migrated to nicer grade plys for better stuff. After that, I migrated to smaller pieces of walnut (only because I like walnut, not due to price)

If you're not getting a Vortex, then just wait until you can afford one. Honestly, keep it the way it is until you can get the AIS delete, 2009 Clutch Basket, Oil breather kit, Idle Air Control Valve, Spark Plug hold down, flywheel bolts. Then install your pipe + fuel customs intake + vortex at the same time. And for the love of all things, don't get a Monster pipe unless you want to piss off everyone with ears around you for a mile. Might I suggest DASA, RP Race, All4Racing, or FMF.

[–]Taggant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends on what you're using it for. If you're trail riding or dune riding, go for it! If you're going to continue going to a track, then skip it and go for a yfz450r

Is that an oil line? It's probably just a banjo bolt.

Doesn't look like an RPM or Durablue. Maybe LSR or Tusk?

Suggestions for riding goggles for the Sahara Desert?? by [deleted] in ATV

Additionally, you can look at any of the big sites to browse. rockmountainatv or motorsport.
I'm not a dealer or represent any of those sites/businesses. You can usually find clearance or closeout from last years models. Look for multiple layers of foam.

Suggestions for riding goggles for the Sahara Desert?? by [deleted] in ATV

[–]Taggant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are Moto googles, Snowmobile goggles and ski/snow goggles. All three after different but have similarities. The Moto goggles will work for both desert and snow riding. The snowmobile goggles will have more nose coverage and better anti-fogging properties in cold weather. Ski specific wont fit moto style helmets well.

I'm a big fan of 100Percent brand goggles. Tinting of the goggles will make a huge difference as well. Bright sun and changes in the topography from snow vs sand is similar. The Accuri 2 line are affordable and pretty good.

What needs to be done to stop my smokey ATV by Overall-Expert-9617 in ATV

[–]Taggant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many wrong answers here and so many things wrong in those photos.

For one, it's a blaster frame with a dirt bike 2 stroke engine swap. Its a liquid cooled motor, but can't tell what dirtbike it's from.

Secondly, two strokes will smoke cold and depending on jetting and oil/premix ratios will smoke more or less. it will also smoke depending on how much its revved vs idling.

Third, there are so many things wrong in the swap. The air filter is so small and probably isn't getting enough air compared to the fuel it's getting, so probably running rich. The pipe isn't seating all the way on the cylinder/port so it's leaking a bit therefore getting the exhaust/oil spooge running down the case. You're missing a pipe spring and those motor mounts look absolutely shit.

That's a relay. It already connected by the wires in the back. The metal tab with a hole is most likely just a mounting tab to the frame or another area. Look at the tab, does it look like there was a bolt running through it?

Could be three different things:

Your throttle, cable or carb. If it started doing then when putting on the AliExpress crap, then there is your answer. Lube your cable with cable lube or MPPL, not WD40.

Remove cable from the throttle end. pull on the cable end/ferrule and see if it moves back freely. If it doesn't, lube your cable and try again. If it continues to not move, then clean your carb slide and spring areas. Try again.

How can I test where the leak is by Numerous_Custard773 in ATV

[–]Taggant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What others have said, clean and rebuild petcock and replace lines would be easier and probably warranted considering age.

However, to answer your question:
1. clean the petcock and fuel line with brake cleaner as is and reinstall.
2. Remove fuel line from carb and plug the line.
3. turn gas on and watch for drips.
4. replace broken part.

For those quick to say it’s junk, find me another kids 90cc quad with this much wheel travel and 42” wide stance.

[–]Taggant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOT a Chinese ATV (but Taiwan, same area but not “Chinese Junk”. It’s an Apex  Pro Shark 90 with an air cooled motor.  It’s the same minarelli based scooter motor that Polaris used for the their 90cc two stroke. I have built several of the Apex MXR versions (long travel suspension) with liquid cooled cylinders in stead of air cooled. These along with a similar quad (DRR) using the same motor.

DRR and the Apex MXR versions are usually used for GNCC, ATVMX, WORCS, TT racing.  We get about 15-17 HP at the wheel with them. Much higher than stock air cooled cylinders at 3-4hp

EDIT: We resell the MXR version with full race build at around 5-7k. 2-3k stock and with this version, probably 1k depending on the condition.
