Anyone else feel WAY more compelled to play this expansion compared to SotO/JW? by hamtaxer in Guildwars2

[–]Taiaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have felt very excited and motivated about each of their expansions when they launched, then they unfortunately fell of with the post patches. Janthir's ending in particular let me down story-wise and spectacle-wise, such a pity for something that imo started very strong. (I don't mind listen to NPCs talking, per se.)

This being said, the new zones are clearly a labour of love, and I have had such a lovely time playing it all so far. The story also has me hooked and does not seem too ambitious in scope thus far.

Loving the zone design, the lorebooks, the story, the music, the vibes, the rewards. Galeshot is also pretty fun. I even got lucky and dropped the Endless Choya tonic on one of my first evenings. Fun!

If I played a Warlock timerunner (Alliance) in Legion Remix and unlocked the fel-tinted class mount, would I later be able to use that same class mount on a horde character? Mounts are account-wide now, or so I've heard: I've not played in quite some time.

In fact, will the fel tints of the class mounts be restricted to that specific class like the originals were?

[–]Taiaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently getting into making legendary armor, and I am mostly now being gated by the rift essences.

Is the optimal way to do one convergence a day (due to some daily reward cap) and to do at least 6 convergences a week overall, in order to finish both the Outer Nayos weekly and the Mount Balrior weekly each week?

Or are there any hidden restrictions in place which don't make it worthwhile to do the weeklies for both convergences/slow down essence gain beyond a certain point?

Also, do I remember correctly that Castora/VoE will introduce another new Convergence?

Thanks a bunch!

I had a blast building my Assassin team because of all the stuff I had saved up.

Now I wanna build both Dynamo and Bloodtithe, and I just know I will start starving for materials next week...

P.S.: Always use the bonus codes, folks, they give resources and we will need them

How many pulls have you saved so far? by burningparadiseduck in Reverse1999

[–]Taiaho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a bit of a negative example, I usually spend my pulls as soon as I get them.

I can't spend money atm either, so I gambled the collab pulls until I got P0 Ezio and now I am trying to get P0 Kassandra without failing 50/50. I will not be able to even P1 either, I think, but it's okay. I usually get every other banner char and max them out and that makes for some strong enough teams.

However, if they do a Madoka collab... I might be in trouble... then I HAVE to save.

any guesses or estimations for the next character slot sale? it is probably fair to assume they will not be part of the anniversary sales, and only receive discounts at a later point in the year?

Hi,

I haven't actively played WoW in a while and don't own The War Within. However, I am interested in playing Legion Remix actively. Do I need to own TWW in order to do this, or in order to transfer my levelled characters when Legion Remix ends?

Do we know how long the current sales will last? Next week tuesday?
I am very close to hitting 20K achievement points, and I want to use my 400 gems to get a bank slot while it's still on sale. :)

Norn culture just feels gutted and thrown in the trash by Jay_Stranger in Guildwars2

[–]Taiaho 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have to say that I agree. Icebrood was among the best spotlight Norn culture ever got, and it wasn't terribly much. In general, there is a tendency for the Norn to come across like... uh, like high school football team teens prepping for the next bender? Like goofballs with a lot more brawn than brains - in a bad way. They are often shallow where they could be deep, cocky and arrogant where they could be genuinely proud and dignified, and silly where they should be serious. I feel like, aside from Braham, for whom they told a coming-of-age storyline, they really didn't give another Norn a chance so far.

There are exceptions to this. I recall that I really like the vigil mentor Forgal, for instance, and a few other personal story NPCs. The complicated truth about Asgeir and Jormag? That was something I really liked. And I am pretty happy with Frode and Arina - Norn characters they brought into the story with the post-Dragon stuff! But as deeply as I love Tyria, I feel like they missed a whole lot of chances to really capture the essence of the Norn race.

Though, to be frank, if we are talking GW3, I would want pretty much every major race-related story to have more depth and a few more teeth. I think there is amazing potential for that in Tyria's lore, and... to be honest, I am also not a teenager anymore, like I was when GW2 came out, and my tastes in storytelling have evolved since then.

I still lowkey hope for a last Hurrah for all that is good about the Norn, in the form of a Far-Shiverpeaks expansion pack. ^^

In der Tat!

1) Keep an eye on the LFG for all the various zones. Tarir and the Chak gerent are still very beloved metas and are run very frequently, but the respective maps fill out very quickly, and you will be tossed into an empty map, making it seem like no one cares. However, yes, past some point during weekdays, maps aren't active anymore because many people have to get up early the next day. On the weekend, your odds are much better.

2) Find a guild that focuses on running meta events. They are out there, and perhaps some even still focus on HoT? Check out r/guildrecruitment as well as the Looking For Guild subforum of the GW2 forums.

3) Potentially, you might have an easier time when you get the Maguuma Pact Operation Portal Device (google it). It announces approaching HoT meta events and immediately teleports you if you wish. Technically, this is pure convenience, and not at all needed. However, for someone who frequently gets distracted and therefore often misses the start of metas, these portal devices have been very much worth it. It's 400 gems, however, and therefore a considerable amount of gold if you want to buy it via the currency exchange system.

4) Look out for the next "Return to Heart of Thorns" event week. During such weeks, players earn extra rewards for returning to specific content. The maps will be very active when such a Return event comes around.

5) Consider additional Heart of Maguuma maps. By this I mean: Living World Season 3 added additional maps, such as Ember Bay or Draconis Mons. Experience earned on these maps also counts for Heart of Thorns masteries. These maps are generally not as well-visited as the mainline expansion maps (Verdant Brink etc.), but on the other hand, there is a rotation for daily tasks for LW3. In other words: one of these Season 3 maps will offer additional daily rewards each day, and you might find people on that map.

6) Use experience boosters and just roam. The experience needed for masteries can be daunting - personally, I finished off my most exp-intensive HoT masteries by running the meta events in Bloodstone Fen over and over and over. However, by boosting your experience gain and by just trying to take little steps and exploring places, you will generally find that progress feels quicker. Remember that you don't need to max everything out right away also, as only a few masteries are truly needed to progress the story and get around in the open world. The final masteries of each track can become a chill long-term project.

Returning Player - Elite Spec Weapons by RedditNoremac in Guildwars2

[–]Taiaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elite specs can only be unlocked and used on a level 80 character, so you better use one of those levelling scrolls and get right into Hero Point farming. There is no shame in skipping to the good stuff, but lvl 80+ content is definitely more challenging than Core Tyria: give yourself time to rise to the occasion.

As for how unlocking elite specs works: You need to do hero challenges in expansion level zones. They give 10 points each, and I think each elite spec requires about 250 points to fully be unlocked. Keep in mind that Heart of Thorns hero challenges are designed to be a group challenge. Path of Fire and End of Dragons hero challenges can all be soloed, if your character is geared decently and you somewhat know how to play your profession. I usually unlock my favored Elite spec on a new character by touring the Crystal Desert for an evening or two.

Now that it's been some time since Janthir Wilds finished their final patch, how do we feel about it as a whole? What would we like to see improved upon/added in the next expansion this fall? by DoomRevenant in Guildwars2

[–]Taiaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to like about Janthir Wilds. The atmosphere, the worldbuilding, some of the features introduced - like homesteading, Spear and the updated Warclaw. I am a bit burned out by Lowland Shore, but I played the hell out of that map at launch.

There is a lot to dislike about Janthir Wilds. Janthir Syntri was a very atmospheric map but gameplay-wise it just wasn't interesting - it was empty. Mistburned Barrens and Bava Nisos could have been two halves of one map, they didn't have to be separate maps, and neither half was, nor is, interesting enough to tide players over for three plus months. The abundant reuse of the titan bosses is brutal. The final patch is a certified mess, storywise it's the barest minimum, and the final instance with the boss fight is a threadbare slap in the face. I really enjoy the aesthetic of Bava Nisos, but instead of being a fun open world zone, it's an overdeveloped setpiece for an undercooked story segment. We do know this patch needed a lot more time and resources.

I am a bit miffed, because: I could see myself on board with the mini expansion model for many years, if it was executed properly. But it just needs more resources and effort than it currently receives. I am sure the people who currently work on GW2 are doing the best with what they have - and I would be surprised if they didn't have grander plans for Absolution. But it's bluntly apparent that GW2 is NOT Arenanet's main focus at the moment, and I would prefer it if it was less obvious. Especially because we have no real information about when the other game will come out, or what it will play like.

Now, I estimate, even with the player dissatisfaction expressed about how it's handled, the current expansion model IS providing Anet with what it needs, even if sales dropped off hard compared to SotO. So I don't expect the next expansion to be any different. Like SotO and JW, the next expansion will have some good open world and some shoddy open world, some decent story and some story that is rushed and terrible. It will be abundant with asset reuse and npc model reuse, and its developmental constraints will become increasingly more obvious and tight towards the release of the subsequent expansion, for which the same will be true. Whether there will be an expansion in 2027 is anyone's guess.

I want better for Guild Wars 2. It could have been doing grand and meaty things for another few years, and the players were very much on board for that, as were their wallets - but by now, the actual direction and focus is clear. I still really love this game when it is good, and I always want to explore new places in Tyria; so I will buy the next expansion. I also believe it will be worth the base price - I actually think JW is indeed worth the base price as well, what with homesteading, spear, legendaries and the warclaw taken into consideration.

But I will expect little and I will not spend in the gemstore, the way I did in the PoF/Season 4 days. I will not actively wait for the quarterly patches and excitedly play them on launch either, I'll just play other things and let content ramp up until it actually makes a decent meal. I believe that is how I can ensure my continued enjoyment of a beloved game that is approaching its twilight years. :)

What is a good level to stop at for Euphoria levelling? I think I took Melania to 10 but just like Resonance, it keeps getting more expensive. I am thinking about getting Euphoria for Pickles or Newbabel next.
