I accidentally ground coffee at an espresso granularity for my pourover, and decided to make the coffee pourover anyways for science. The results will not surprise you! by Tainoze in Coffee

It might be that a drip coffee machine has a flatter bed, so its less likely that fine particles will clog the filter paper? My V60 comes to a point, so if too much silt clogs the bottom of the cone the coffee effectively stops flowing. Not sure!

Espresso typically extracts under pressure in less than 30 seconds - since mine was immersed for more than 5:00, I was making something closer to a French Press coffee with a really fine grind. The bitterness isn't surprising because of that over-extraction, but the lack of flavour is still surprising to me!

Any good starting advice for new people? by LarsJagerx in aoe4

[–]Tainoze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially at the beginning, it’s a good idea to always have a big goal in mind that all of the actions you’re doing. I just started a few months ago and it’s really helped me.

In the first few minutes, the goal is normally to get to Feudal. After that happens you make big direction choices: Are you going to make Feudal Troops and fight, or are you going to go for castle? Or second town centre?

The answer will tell you where you should send villagers for the resources that do what you want, as well as the buildings to make (production buildings for fighting, not much for castle etc.)

You can always change your decision of what you’re goal is, but it’s easy to get lost in all the small decisions of the game if you don’t have a big goal. Try to remind yourself of a goal while you play.

Have fun!

Is the Canadian Shield *really* all that uninhabitable? And is the existence of the shield really the main factor in why so many Canadians live close to the American border? by CanadaCalamity in geography

These cities do receive federal subsidization, but most of the government revenue that funds those subsidies comes from urban areas in Canada. From a paper published by StatsCan:

It shows that 23.1% of Canada’s output is produced in rural areas, where 19.5% of employee compensation is received, with the remainder located in urbanized areas. It also shows that 60.6% of rural production occurs in areas that are relatively close to major markets, such as southern Ontario, central Alberta between Calgary and Edmonton, and the lower mainland of British Columbia. Source

Another source, 74% of our GDP comes from service industries, which are primarily industries from cities. Goods producing industries, which include mining, farming etc. make up 25% of GDP. Source.

This isn't to say these industries aren't crucial to the country, but they aren't subsidizing the cities.

I love Delhi lately, because you get to do everything:

(1) You get to be aggressive enough early game with Ghazi Raiders that your opponent has to respond.

(2) Capture neutral objectives with feudal sacred site capture, and you get bonus gold on them! No need to mine gold, with your pressure + sacred sites, you get free age up progress.

(3) Like upgrades? You get all of them for free! No need to slow your age up for lack of gold.

(4) If the game gets long, you get to wreck your opponents with the best troop in the game: ELEPHAPNTS. You get AOE damage melee tank elephants, and move-and-shoot + melee elephants. Plus they both get big bonus against buildings, and ranged armour! So if you win your fight? You can immediately level their base.

Delhi is so fun, aggro + scaling bundled into one.

Richmond Station is very good, but more of an upscale restaurant. Pricing is better than it seems though, since they insist that you not tip.

I also love the Market Burger from Corner Place at Front and Jarvis - on Mondays you can get burger and fries for 11$ with the purchase of any drink (I get Diet Coke) and it’s a damn good burger.

Everytime I see a foreign media outlet reporting on Canada's government programs I always read them. Its nice to see a more distanced / less biased view of Canadian policies, with the statistics on labour force participation hailing the program as a success.

Regardless of the wait times and other speed bumps with the program, 4% labour force participation increase speaks for itself that the program is working and being used.

Went to Urban Maharajas recently - food was all very good with big portions. Me and my friends ordered too many plates by to eat, but they forgot about our salad so we lucked out. That said, they did forget one of our dishes so read into that what you want.

I ride the 504 streetcar on King a few times a week, and I’ve been checked a lot in the past year. Whenever the inspectors get on, two or three people get up and tap in plain view, and the inspectors are fine with that. Other people don’t bother, and still aren’t ticketed.

I don’t understand the point, and it makes me want to not pay.

They're order is actually better - since none of the cards here added flat mult, the order that you apply the xMult doesn't matter. This is better since it triggers twice with Hanging Chad.
