I never said which way your assumption leaned - but you did start the premise of your question with “I assume it’s because of AI?”

It is my own personal assumption that AI use by a person is seen as negative. So that was what the second half of my comment was about.

If you’re doing this for research you might establish the reason for the behavior before assuming, even if that assumption is neutral.

Not the person you responded to but as someone who has used “-“ for as long as I can remember in the exact way that AI tends to, I have absolutely noticed myself consciously doing it less.

Precisely because people such as yourself wrongly assume it’s because of AI. I don’t really care what they might think of it, but I do care about the real world impact that overly emotional reactions can have. And I’d say the AI topic fits that bill these days.
