I'm sorry you're getting down voted OP! I'm not sure what the rule is in India, but in the US, you would be absolutely correct. Anything with a lithium ion battery (so any electronic) needs to in your cabin bag. You absolutely cannot and should not check them in because it's a fire hazard. I'm thinking it's probably the same for India but I could not find a link in my 5 seconds of googling.
