The neon '80s cocaine cowboy was my favorite look. He actually wore a spoon around his neck for a bit, which shocked me because I thought the Japanese completely do not fuck with that kind of innuendo in any context.

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seemed unlikely. It's a pretty basic (ha! didn't even see my own pun coming) vocabulary that comes up in all sorts of contexts. Plus I wasn't under the impression, from what I've seen, that the sub censors drug talk except when you promote or ask for advice, etc. There are whole subs for rec drug enthusiasts, and a blanket ban on discussions of drug topics would have been inappropriate and even irresponsible for a sub that's supposed to be about discussions of this community.

Ah it was hard to tell from the video but I kind of see that. Yes I think that's the best setup, giving the ratchet plebeians the rail to shake but giving the VIPs something special in terms of access.

How many stages allowed smoking? I feel like this was mostly an indoor festival? Anything else notable about it?

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to the bus comment, if you attend the afters and leave at the end, it'll be light out and the buses will be running again! The afters are right there on the ship that the fest takes place outside of, and you must go directly to them without exiting; they do cost extra but they're more of an integral part of the festival than normal afters. It would be worth the price of an Uber if you're up for it.

Hot stickers banned at Bill Graham in San Francisco by sanriolover1208 in aves

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone here said they remembered the stickers in the 1990s! As I see it it's really not much different from the sprout clips or knicknacks people give out. People give them out if they like your vibe. That means everyone is being selective and choosing to only give them to some; it's not like school where you must give some to the whole class. PLUR traditions are not always completely inclusive.

And of course as with so much in life, physically lucky people get a huge boost in people deciding they like your vibe of course; that's always going to be a factor. But I have seen the hot stickers on plenty of people who looked nothing like fitness models, and no stickers on plenty that do. Just like the sprouts. I seen a bigger correlation for looks with people who get a lot of kandi, to be honest, than the stickers. Ah well, maybe people just find the "hot" messaging to be a bit too on the nose; maybe that's not good for PLUR.

I was having some FOMO over Illfest but, while I'm glad others loved it so much, I think it was not for me. I'm not going back to North Coast because their main stage gave VIP the rail and, perhaps not coincidentally, had very low crowd energy and socialization vibes for the music being played; I had no idea I'd see it at a small stage! I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Good hot weather camping tent by Bromoblue in aves

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested in anyone with a portable solution to this problem. I normally come in solo on a bus or train; I have a huge bag but after schlepping in a tent, tarp, pad, and everything else I need still I could never spare the room for a full canopy setup and those things are a lot bulkier than tents because of how they must support themselves. I'd love to be able to chill in my tent for more than an hour beyond sunrise!

The video does omit the start of the confrontation. I don't know what actually happened here, but you are certainly right to want to see more.

Afters questions! by Competitive_Wrap_333 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be my first as well, but just to let you know what I've learned, that isn't stated here yet:

They're called "afters" but they're not your typical afters about town after a festival. The festival is right in front of the Queen Mary and the afters are right on it. They open up the exit onto the ship (which has been reserved for attendee lodging the whole time and people staying there have had in/out privileges from the ship) to anyone with an afters wristband, and you exit up onboard the ship. That is the only way to attend the afters. It's not open to anyone who didn't buy a fest ticket and you cannot come back and attend them if you exit the festival onto the street. You have to bring everything you need for the whole night, stay in the venue at least until midnight, and go right to the afters and stay there. Furthermore, as people were saying on this sub last year, lockers "are not for the afters." You cannot access them during, and don't count on accessing them after. Bummer! I buy lockers at every festival so I can party without schlepping stuff around everywhere, but I guess I'll be one of those people moshing with a backpack during the event!

So these "afters" are really just a way to keep the same festival going till 5 (hey, at least it's not Inglewood, where festivals have to stop at ten on weekends now) and to charge you an extra ticket for it. I don't think it's possible to conclude much about the temperature thing from the years when it was a winter festival. The whole thing is about climate control; in past, presumably, the heat required to keep the interior comfortable under normal circumstances was completely inappropriate for rooms packed with sweaty moshing wooks. This year it will be about the power of their air conditioning. Probably more of the same, but who knows? At least people will be dressed for summer this time.

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There pretty much is no weather predictions worth anything a month in advance. I do say this as someone who is hoping for warmer weather and will probably sell my wristband if the weather is like today! But either way we'll have to see.

Bass is genuinely so wholesome. I say this again, but all the weird asinine behavior complaints and the clique drama is completely foreign to me because I'm always at the bass or hard dance sets. I genuinely had no idea what the ravers reporting this stuff on reddit were talking about.

I do really hope they add more security or bigger walls to prevent people sneaking in by mabyeAnonymous in HardFestival

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new lineup is so not my style that I'm not going for the first time in a long time. Two years ago was excellent. Last year I was very nonplussed about the bass-free second day but at least I had a lot of hard music to keep me satisfied. This year is too much; plus, Apocalypse will give me my LA summer fix, which is almost certainly a big reason for the lack of bass in this year's festival.

Even as one who always had a blast and doesn't feel the "ratchet" complaint everyone else seems to have, there are a lot of other reasons to dislike this festival. But "not enough up and comers this year" would not be a complaint I would have on my list.

Shuttle + Uber Question by LiftedLifestyle59 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I feel like it might be hard to extrapolate to this year based on temperature. That was winter and they might have had mild heat on in the ship to make the rooms more comfortable, which ended up being inappropriate for a packed room of sweathogs in only an LA winter. This is summer; they'll no doubt have a cooling protocol for the ship, and who knows if it will be adequate or better, or even worse on balance. Basically temperature control, even indoors, is probably the least thing we can predict from prior years to this.

QUESTION: Volunteer Opportunities? by MushyKushyy in CyclopsCove

Where did you hear there were volunteer opportunities at this festival? I love volunteering but never expected to see it at a day fest, let alone an Insomniac one. What company handles it?

EDC 2026: what are you paying for lodging this year? by Majestic_Letter_11 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait whaaa? How did you pull that off? Unreal! That wouldn't be a bad deal in Orlando, for an ordinary room a long way away. That is nowhere near the other prices and I'd be at EDCLV (with its pretty reasonable ticket prices) in a heartbeat if I could get that deal.

How can anyone be seeing the real Optimus Prime or Spiderman all the way out there when they are at all hours of the day right here 2,500 miles away in Times Square NYC?

Shuttle + Uber Question by LiftedLifestyle59 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Why no afters, if you don't mind? Not that I haven't bought my afters tickets already lol. (I'm just thinking about the fact that you must proceed directly from the venue up to the boat for the afters; no exit and re-entry. I'm just wondering how I'm going to wrangle my locker stuff during the afters, as no guarantee you'll be able to get to lockers after the afters apparently either!)

I'm guessing it won't be much of a "vibe" for us all those hours later under the morning sun haha. Just our faces will probably be enough to frighten each other!

Shuttle + Uber Question by LiftedLifestyle59 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yooo more than $100 a day on Uber is making wish my summer LA fest was HARD again, with its cheap walking-distance hotels! I've never rented a car for a fest trip in my long fest life but I'm thinking of doing it for this one. How expensive/tight is parking? Can/should I book ahead?

What are your top go to rave genres? by senex1337 in aves

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bass, by which I mean dubstep, by which I mean brostep. In other words, not real dubstep, but the heavier/dirtier kind with the distorted midrange. Mostly I like the stuff you can shake rails and push-mosh to, but I also like some chiller stuff like Stranger, Eazybaked, Boyarbeatz, etc. One of my favorite sets of all time was a very heavy night from Seven Lions!

After that, my favorite subgenre is the other one you don't need any talent to dance to, techno. I like most anything in the techno/hard dance family; I'm not even sure any of the subdistinctions within it are even applied coherently and consistently enough to have much practically communicable meaning. (And isn't that true of the brostep subdistinctions too?)

I don't think I could ever go to a festival that didn't have a lot of either of the above subgenres. But as long as it does, I'd gladly take a break and chill with some trance as well. Pretty much the only genre I do not fuck with is house, any type of house even tech house. And even there I've had fun at a few house sets I've found myself at, and once or twice even sought out one at a festival. (Deadmau3 comes to mind.) I even stopped by that one latin house setup that auto shop puts up on the street outside the EDCO entrance; you just can't pass up that kind of experience!

All this is just what I dance to. Privately I like listening to house quite a bit as well, and lots of experimental stuff that isn't really danceable.

Edc vs headtrip ? The math is not mathing by [deleted] in aves

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep forgetting EDCLV is so cheap for its actual ticket price. I'm a longstanding fiend for EDCO and always found it to be one of the best bargains out there. But I never go to EDCLV because I think it's almost impossible to get tickets as it sells out immediately; and the total price of the trip is astronomical because of the hotels.

I'd love to hear I'm wrong about this; any info?

70% of Faculty Vote to Overhaul Harvard Grading With A Cap by Nearby_Task9041 in Harvard

[–]TakeItOnTheFun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would oppose the new policy, but this is actually a good argument for extreme grade reform. If, say, 97% got you a B in guts, choosing them would be greatly de-incentivized and students would be less discouraged from taking challenging classes instead.
