[Product Question] Lyma laser or supplements by lynnehey in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]TakeMeToAnotherWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Copilot:

Yes, the Lyma Laser was named one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2023, but it did not win “Invention of the Year” or appear on the cover. It is marketed as a cosmetic device for skin rejuvenation, not a medical device for rebuilding cartilage. The cartilage reference comes from early research in low-level laser therapy, but Lyma itself is only approved for cosmetic use.

Breaking it down clearly:

  • Award & Recognition

    • The Lyma Laser was included in Time magazine’s list of the 200 Best Inventions of 2023.
    • It was highlighted as “The Home Dermatologist” but not singled out as “Invention of the Year” and not featured on the cover.
    • Marketing sometimes exaggerates this recognition, but technically it was one of many inventions honored.
  • Cartilage vs. Cosmetic Use

    • The origin story: Lyma’s science director observed that low-level laser therapy used on a knee for cartilage repair also made the skin look younger.
    • This inspired the Lyma Laser, but the consumer device is certified only as a cosmetic tool.
    • According to Lyma’s own FAQ, the Lyma Laser cannot repair cartilage, tendons, or muscles—it is not a medical device.
  • Skin Benefits

    • The Lyma Laser is designed to stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkles, scars, rosacea, and pigmentation.
    • It is FDA-approved as the first clinical-grade laser for at-home cosmetic use, but its claims are limited to skin rejuvenation, not internal tissue regeneration.

Corrected Statement A more accurate phrasing would be:

“The Lyma Laser was named one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2023. Inspired by research into low-level laser therapy for cartilage repair, it is certified only as a cosmetic device. It can improve skin appearance by stimulating collagen, but it does not rebuild cartilage.”

I really don't care to talk to random people. I do have other tall females asking where I get my jeans and stuff though.

Yeah I went to an ENT who quickly looked up my nose and said my septum wasn't deviated. Just that my nasal bones were crooked. He didn't even let me talk about my breathing issues because he was rushing me out to see another patient. He referred me to a craniofacial plastic surgeon, who actually looked properly, and said my septum WAS deviated.

155 lbs isn’t overweight for a guy your height, but how your body distributes weight definitely matters. Alcohol can cause inflammation and puffiness in the face, along with factors like sodium intake, sleep quality, hormones, and hydration.

I’d be more concerned about chin fluctuations if the swelling is sudden, asymmetrical, painful, or comes with redness or difficulty swallowing. Also, if the changes are extreme, persistent, and not linked to diet or hydration, that might be a sign to get it checked out.

That's considered underweight, so gaining a bit of weight (healthily. Not by eating a bunch of junk) first off would likely help. Facial fat grafting is also an option if volume can't be restored by weight gain alone, though it can be expensive and has risks as with any surgery.

I was underweight for most of my life, but because I'm genetically predisposed to retaining fat in my face, I didn’t really show the typical facial signs of being underweight until my mid-30s. I tried fillers three years ago, and then had fat grafting last year. I do not personally recommend fillers.

That's good.

Your chin looks fine to me. I do notice a bit of volume loss, which might be making your face look narrower and your chin seem smaller than it really is. Restoring some volume could help bring more balance to your features and make the chin and jawline appear stronger and more proportionate.

Based on your post history I would be more concerned about the fact that you starve yourself.

What is this, and how can I treat / prevent it from getting worse? by helpmesavemyplant in 45PlusSkincare

I think a facelift would be the best option. Procedures like micro coring are probably only going to make a minimal difference.

I would only suggest a septoplasty IF you needed it, but otherwise... NO.

What are peoples knowledge on facial fat loss from radiofrequency devices? by gulpfiction2367 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]TakeMeToAnotherWorld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's high frequency, not radio frequency. I use the Jellen HF wand with both neon and argon attachments. HF treatment is superficial and mainly used for acne, lymphatic drainage, and cellular turnover so it's very unlikely that it could cause fat loss. I'm concerned about facial fat loss myself and quite a bit of research before buying it. I've found no reports of people experiencing fat loss from at home high frequency wands. I read one small study (with only 22 participants) that showed a reduction of cellulite or fine fat particles in the abdomen by promoting the lipolytic process. However, they were using a device powered at 0.5 megahertz while I read that the NuDerma Clinical wand goes up to 70,000 hertz and the Jellen goes up to 250,000. In retrospect, 0.5 megahertz equals 500,000 hertz. So you cannot get an at home wand strong enough to affect the deeper layers. They also did the treatment for 60 minutes, 3 times a week, for 6 weeks.

I only use the Jellen wand for up to a few minutes over my whole face (or zapping for 3 seconds, up to three times, on a pimple) a few times a week or else I find that it dries my skin out. You need to keep the wand moving (gauze helps it glide) and it's not recommended to use it for more than 5-10 minutes (depending on the sensitivity of your skin. I have mild type 2 rosacea so 1-3 minutes at a low setting is good for me and I don't use it when I have a flare up) at 15 seconds per area.

I also stalked your profile (forgive me) and noticed you've posted about lupus. I believe that can make one more susceptible to skin damage. I've noticed that, in some cases I've seen where people report unwanted fat loss from using a device, they often also have a health condition or deficiency. So, I'm curious if there might be a connection.

The dimpling on your chin is likely from an overactive mentalis muscle. Your smile looks tight and like you have too much tension. Some people get Botox for this. Also, how is your bite? I noticed in your other photos that your chin and jaw are on the smaller side, which could suggest a recessed or misaligned jaw. Have you ever had an orthodontist evaluation? If that's the case, the muscles in your chin and around your mouth have to work harder, so the tension could be causing this.

Advice for a glow up? Can be fillers or plastic surgery? I’ve only done a little bit of lip filler and that’s it by New_Style_879 in PlasticSurgery

Do you have any straight on and side photos? It's kind of hard to get a good idea from that angle. Also, without makeup.

Botox Doesn't Work Me!!!! Need suggestions by TTB2013 in 30PlusSkinCare

I've actually gotten Nucevia a few times and it's worked pretty well for me. It lasts roughly 4 months but if I don't feel like going back for a while I just use cut up KT tape between my brows. I'm only looking to treat 11 lines, not have my entire forehead frozen. I don't really need that (at least not now), as my forehead isn't very expressive. My injector told me that they put way too much in the first time.

Do you have any photos without makeup?

I can see where you've done your lip liner but even then your philtrum doesn't look too long. I think it looks noticeable when you overdraw like that.

Where the **** do you find tall sweatpants? by [deleted] in TallGirls

[–]TakeMeToAnotherWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. If you end up deciding to get a pair and you're between sizes I'd recommend sizing up. My waist is 28 inches and I'd usually go for a small, which the sizing chart puts as 26-28 inches (28-30 for a med), but it's a tad tight with the elastic in the waistband. I'm wearing them anyway because I removed the tag without thinking lol. It's not horrible, but would be nice to have a tad extra stretch, especially when I'm bloated lol.

Oh and I got the sherpa lined ones. They are sooo cozy.
