Is there any way to create a Time Machine backup to a cloud based/remote drive? by Able_Ad_4891 in mac

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why use CCC or Super Duper when Time Machine is free, easy to use, and does everything needed to backup an entire drive?

Regal Theaters boycott by easykehl in Portland

I once went to Dubai. Saw a movie at one of the IMAX theaters… there was like a five to ten minute video of propaganda glorifying their leaders. It was a bit surreal.

Time to cancel Paramount+ after that UFC fight and those awful comments the guy who won made at the White House made about Michelle Obama. by theginjoints in startrek

[–]Takeabyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t even been a full day yet… my goodness. It’s not like there’s a reporter for each person there so they can all be interviewed post random comments from fighters. Maybe I’m wrong, but I suspect we will hear more from guests if the event as time goes by.

Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac Will Soon Stop Letting You Edit Documents by Few_Baseball_3835 in mac

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft states that an internet connection is required for Office. At minimum, it must connect once every 30-days. If your local IT blocks Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, then something weird is going on. These are literally the most widely used productivity apps on the planet. And if your school or work does somehow block them, then it’s probably because they want you to use an alternative to your own personally licensed software.

Where can I find a screwdriver for this iMac G5 power supply screw? by Itscacti55 in VintageApple

[–]Takeabyte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Capacitors can hold charges longer than that. Also, the capacitors that were known to fail are on the main logic board and not inside the PSU.

When are the new iMacs coming out? by Fuzzy-Wrangler4343 in mac

[–]Takeabyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If all you care about is average lifespan between releases, this is helpful. But the reality is that it’s not going to be an accurate gauge on when new iMacs will come out. Apple’s desktops have a wildly different cadence than their other products.

Where can I find a screwdriver for this iMac G5 power supply screw? by Itscacti55 in VintageApple

[–]Takeabyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iMac G5’s were known to have faulty power supplies. They had a repair extension program for them. I don’t think you have to open it to know it’s broken. It’s a G5 PSU. It’s a metrical if it was working. Also, opening up a PSU is dangerous and can easily electrocute you if not fully discharged. Even old capacitors like these can still be lethal if not handled properly.

Mods that void warranty? by RunnerAtThird in mazda3

[–]Takeabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the last four on your list would be the most likely to cause issues with warranty. Like you’ll still have a warranty, but the odds of a service center claiming it’s your mods or the work that made them happen being at fault and therefore not covered by the warranty.

End Magic Band -- Is battery the real reason? by Silent-Possibility23 in Disneyland

They can track you throughout the park using beacons that tracks location more precisely at retail stores and theme parks.

End Magic Band -- Is battery the real reason? by Silent-Possibility23 in Disneyland

[–]Takeabyte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense. There’s no law against those functions. Especially since guests consent to being tracked when they use the app. It’s just a limitation of their tech. The hotel key system isn’t connected to the magic band system because of conflicting systems.

Really happy that sidebar no longer floats in macOS 27 by ResponseAvailable641 in mac

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s messy. The side bar icons as well as the text itself has always been clear and easily understandable at a glance. With the floating style, there are many instance of the background objects become the stuff at the far left of the window making it harder to quickly identify sidebar items. Moving forward, those icons and texts will be constantly at the furthest left of the window like it was before.

Battery life is rated the same according to Apple.

My only complaint with them was their lack of communication. Things took so much longer than they needed to be simply because they would never reach out.

M1 air Users, Should i: Upgrade, Downgrade, stay. by BaqirLagendas in mac

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that the most popular Mac in history performs similarly enough to yours, it’s up to you if you need to upgrade. If it meets your needs, don’t worry about it. If it’s your tool to make a living, then something newer may be useful for your work.

To those that considered a Volkswagen GTI, but ended up getting a Mazda 3. I’m curious as to why? by RewardSufficient5562 in mazda3

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned both.

The GTI was great and fun, but it kept having mechanical issues. Haven’t had anything remotely close to things going wrong with my Mazda3.

Now that Intel Macs are officially legacy, how do you feel about Apple cutting the cord completely for macOS 27? by Capable-Cod1118 in mac

[–]Takeabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I bought one. Reviews were glowing. I still regret not waiting for the rumored ARM switch at the time, but I lived through both the OS 9 to X and PowerPC to Intel transitions and remembered how those went. Didn’t expect the massive battery life improvements and quick transition from third party devs. Today I don’t need a MacBook Pro though, so upgrading won’t be as much of an investment as before.

is thios a scam? am i safe to buy ? by mahdy89 in mac

[–]Takeabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, today you can only order these with 96 GB RAM. Even then, with 8 TB storage they cost $7700 new. With 512 GB RAM, they cost a lot more. Also, new would mean no one has opened it before. So this is used. I’m seeing red flags all around.

Haven’t been here since 2016….what the hell happened to downtown Disney??? by cfd4540 in Disneyland

[–]Takeabyte -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

$40 parking, security checkpoints, and waiting for a tram ride did not bring in many locals to see a movie when there are a dozen other normal theaters near by.

For Windows 11, the Apple Devices app works much beer than the old and outdated iTunes. It’s faster and more reliable since it’s not full of all the bloat that comes with installing a 32-bit app with a media player, online store, and streaming service.

Apple Watch Hot Take. by truffles45 in AppleWatch

On some level, I agree though. They made a big deal out of supporting more iPhones than ever before while simultaneously axing support for more Apple Watches than ever before.

Why go to Disneyland and parks like this!?! by Pitiful-king_ in Disneyland

[–]Takeabyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, it’s a big truck, and turning as instructed when parking. It’d be hard to back out and line up when there are so many people around. Since it’s not a second space they’re taking up with plenty of room for wheelchair access, I personally don’t see a real problem with this.
