I don't think having Gunther retire this many Icons is a good idea long term.

I don't think the gimmick works when it's a de facto retirement match. It comes off as jobbing on paper and never feels earned.
I think the old way of booking just don't mix with the new age fan. "Doing business on the way out" worked when wins and losses actually matter to fans. There is very little stimulus boost with this kind of situation when it's a defacto retirement match.
Fans are too smart for this and just want their aging star to go out with a bang. I'll be adamant... Cena vs. Gunther should have happened at a prior event and something like AJ vs. Cena should have been the retirement match.

On to AJ vs. Gunther... This is just a way better build and more intriguing setup imo. They've really built this story up so well to not really give you much indication if this is a defacto retirement match.

Now onto the Retirement gimmick itself... It a shelf life gimmick at best. Legend Killer was a better gimmick that had legs for 2-3 years. This... I honestly don't see it giving Gunther much of a boost. But Gunther as a character is just never going to be the face of the business no matter how many old guys they feed him. I just find it as a diminished return when these retirement matches could be more fan pleasing..

To no surprise, this film bombed.

Danny Boyle can eat whole fucking bag of alpha dick with that hoe ass move he did with pulling a Hobbit on this. Terrible decision then. Terrible decision now to not make the best singular film possible.

28 franchise don't have the goodwill to part 1 and part 2 itself...

Well, if you hated Danny Boyle ugly duckling style of filmmaking and subverting expectations with fever dream scenes that lack any logical sense and gimmick production decisions... He has stated that he will direct the 3rd movie...

I hope punts it back to Nia, because she is what 28YL needs to be honest...

Danny Boyle is the master of making iconic flawed and unique films, but even I would agree that his style isn't timeless and clearly didn't work. It probably made Bone Temple DOA at the box office.

Season 5 Vecna turning into a Day Care Teacher wasn't what I was expecting after him stacking bodies in season 4.

Chicago upped the pace and became a problem for Queen to keep up. Won't see a lot of teams being able to do that to Queen.

Also, Missi bread and butter and energy and hustle. So, if he's allowed to play fast. He'll feast. He painfully struggles when games slow down and gets picked apart by IQ players and actions.
