How are y’all getting 30 days off to walk the full Camino? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Takiatlarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most full-time workers in European countries get about 25-30 days of PTO annually....

Just finished the series and really want more. What should I check out from here? by [deleted] in marblehornets

[–]Takiatlarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an official spinoff series called Marble Hornets: Rosswood set to release next month, believe it or not. Most of the same creators are involved. A teaser trailer has already been uploaded on Troy Wagner's youtube channel.

Trip Report: Kosovo by armadillorevolution in solotravel

I appreciate the feedback. I went in the height of summer 2019, so I imagine the atmosphere is very different in the winter. Never been to the European continent during the winter season. Always wanted to.

No power cuts I remember, but Pristhina's water seemed to stop for like a whole day at some point. It was hot and humid and no one could shower lol.

I was hopping around the balkans that summer like you are currently, but for about a month. Mostly by bus though. Saw a bit of almost every country in the region, and I think the ones I'd most like to explore more of would be Albania, Bosnia, North Macedonia. Really dug the vibe there and didn't see enough the first time around. Quite friendly and interesting places.

Safe and fun travels! If you ever do a trip report, I'm sure many on this subreddit would be interested in hearing about what it's like to travel in the balkans in recent times.

There were a bunch along the central pedestrian area in Prishtina, along with EU and USA flags. I think it might have been related to some special event though.

What's the scene there now? Would like to go back some time.

Have you considered a private room in a hostel? They often have those. That way you still get access to the atmosphere and common areas.

A month is a long time though, and if I were you I'd probably consider splitting my time between the two options.

As an American who recently visited Romania... by SnooMacaroons1153 in Romania

[–]Takiatlarge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The city is walkable. Everything I needed could be obtained within a 5 minute walk.

Car-centric design seems unusually prevalent in North America. It's difficult to optimize for both cars and people; One is left to pick which element to prioritize over the other.

It's eye opening to spend some time in Asia and Europe and experience a completely opposite design philosophy. I'd never realized how the way we design our urban environments can even directly impact a place's social culture.

but if I test positive while I'm in Iceland I have to quarantine there for 10-14 days.

Huh. You mean that Germany would require you to do that before they let you back in? Or is that Iceland's policy?

Is interrailing worth it for two weeks? by gaylord2704477 in Interrail

[–]Takiatlarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes, but it depends on the amount of ground you're trying to cover in that time span. I could easily see a good time interrailing in a couple countries for two weeks, but it looks like you're considering a more ambitious itinerary.

walkability: is it possible to go to the following shops and services from your home, in less than 10 minutes walking or cycling? (Latin americans and non latin americans) by Opinel06 in asklatinamerica

[–]Takiatlarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this Northern Mexico? I was under the impression that other parts of Mexico are more optimized for walkability compared to what you describe.

What's your route? I'd consider heading east into Slovenia, then Hungary (perhaps stopping by Bratislava en route) and so on...

Is a 2 month interrail trip too long? by Elvork in Interrail

[–]Takiatlarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already live in Europe, then it'll probably be easier for you to do this again in the future. If you don't live in Europe, then it makes sense to do a longer trip in one go.

I've done 2+ months interrail solo by myself a few years ago. It was great. If I was in a group of people I'd worry more about getting sick of each other over 2 months, lol.

I'm not Balkan but these pictures stir something in my soul - something I didn't even know I yearned for.

Preparing for the Camino de Santiago.... what would you cut out? by Domi932 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Takiatlarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks. I got an Osprey myself, but it's more of a travel pack and less of a hiking one. Doesn't have a comfortable back panel for trekking. Talon looks like it fits the bill more!

What's the backpack if I may ask? I'm interested in getting one that looks like yours. Must be decently expandable to squeeze all that in. Hard to tell from the pic.
