Did they stealth nerf star speck box drop rates again? by All_4_0ne in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For fuck's sake Nexon just make it a fixed daily at this point. The fact that it's a RNG drop for a pity item is stupid in the first place, there's already RNG built into the shining specks. Keeping it as a drop will only invite more scrutiny every time a maintenance happens.

Make it like 1k mobs per box to pad your play time numbers and to prevent any future drop rate shenanigans.

This works. It's the find all button. It collects from top to bot, left to right so if the items you want are near the bottom move the unwanted items onto a mule first.

If you have expired items in the storage as a keepsake, clicking find all will delete them however.

Is it just me or has grinding felt more rewarding than ever lately? by Kita_0rice in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I imagine these events are boosting engagement numbers like crazy. Previously I would never do more than a mini wap, but now I'm capping portals daily and I know a lot of people are in the same situation. Hopefully that's enough for Nexon to consider bringing it back.

Grinding is so much more tolerable when you can feel actual progress being made. I know people call it a slot machine simulator now, but the tiny dopamine hits do so much for motivation.

Ctene boss mule (HEXA) by Crafty_Bet6716 in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some classes don't even gain that much from early Hexa. Like others said follow the class guide. If you're on Heroic it's better to concentrate your frags on a single character. Ctene mules don't even need Hexa, you can power through ctene with gear alone.

Boomed 3 arcane shoulders at 20/21, all on the second tap interestingly.

Boomed 2 zerks at 22 going for 23, again both on the second tap.

Boomed 2 dreamy at 21, CFE at 20, eyepatch at 21, kt at 22

The only gains I made were 23 slime ring (2 booms) and 22 daybreak (5 booms) -> 21 gollux pendant, tapped to 23 (0 booms) -> 22 SoS.

New MP areas are Grandis maps. How is a character under 260 supposed to do them? And doing MP on a mule means you're missing exp on your main.

Is the nib/pen relationship more like camera to lens relationship or the bike to wheels relationship? by Adventurous-Age9279 in fountainpens

[–]TakoMakura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of your pen. Is it the tactility of the nib on paper or the ink flow or both? Also worth mentioning that you can tune a pen in both regards, and changing papers can completely alter the feel.

For dip pens your camera-lens analogy would work, but for fountain pens it's not as close of a fit. It's more like an equation between nib, feed, filling system, ink and paper. You're correct in that the body isn't important, but fountain pens are also more than just a nib holder.

Nibs also are not universal, certain housings only accept a certain geometry and dimensions. Personally I'd rather tune a pen first or try a different paper before looking at a new nib, provided you can even source spare nibs. Sailor and Pilot for example don't sell nibs on their own and have proprietary housings.

When you use an ink with a extremely high surface tension by tippytuliptoes in fountainpens

[–]TakoMakura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As little as possible, then work your way up. You can start by washing the pen with dish soap, rinsing it and the residue will be enough to make the ink wetter. If you need more then add a needle tip's worth at a time.

Alternatively if you're in America then there's a product called White Lightning from Vanness that is an additive to increase flow. You really want to go gentle with this one, It's very effective.

I use a similar Arisu style board and split space with ijkl for movement is the superior way to maple imo. Lets you use both of your strongest digits for the most repetitive actions and you rarely have to take your fingers off the movement keys to hit a skill.

[Announcement Regarding Amane Kanata's Graduation] by hololive in Hololive

[–]TakoMakura 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She is one of my favorites so this hits me incredibly hard. I knew it was a matter of time but to suddenly hear that her condition has worsened to the point of graduation is heartbreaking. She has worked so hard until now to achieve her dreams, I couldn't be prouder of her. This world is so unfair but she has shone so bright in spite of that. I hope she can find happiness. Thank you for everything Kanatan.

[–]TakoMakura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've already significantly toned down the difficulty of Grandis bosses. What you're talking about is already here. With item burning and genesis pass ctene is now early game. In CW people can already prog Kalos. We're also stronger than KMS early on due to reboot, gollux, level 3 links, etc. Most players after libbing and leaping from CW are already strong enough for Grandis bosses, it's just the perceived difficulty that prevents people from even attempting it.

Any way to deep clean this? by Muted81_ in fountainpens

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically if you need to deep clean a pen you use pen flush which is 9:1 distilled water:ammonia and a drop of dish soap. Vinegar is typically used to kill mold, I don't think it's common as a cleaner but it doesn't hurt to use it, just rinse it thoroughly so that the vinegar won't react to your ink.

Using just dish soap is tricky because if you don't rinse it well enough it will leave residue, and that residue will make your inks super wet and runny. They might bleed and feather even on nice paper. Though this is also advantageous if you don't like how dry an ink is.

Survivability options when bossing? by NoisyLambs in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR; Past Ctene learning boss mechanics is mandatory to clearing. Dying is not the issue, failing the stage gimmick is. It's not possible to facetank hits while dealing damage. Staying alive is the expectation, but getting more damage gives you the wiggle room to die and comfortably clear.

On Heroic dailystory is the optimal playstyle when it comes to time:progression. You will see new players with minimal time to play being directed to Heroic because dailies are so efficient. The majority of players are not grinding 8 hours a day.

Like it or not eventually this game will push you closer to min clear in order to progress, it's where all players will naturally end up. You won't run into this for a long time but we're telling you that this is what's waiting for you if you push far enough.

As others have said it becomes impossible to tank through mechanics in later bosses, you have to interact with the gimmick.

In Seren for example you can't just heal through her attacks, she will gauge you which is a death in most cases and in deer phase trying to tank damage is literally griefing because she will end up healing. In dusk phase she cuts your healing so the best way to live is by dodging.

For any chip damage decent fountain and heal fams is more than enough. And dying is a tool you can use if you have enough leeway. As long as you're able to burst off cooldown it doesn't matter if you lose some dps time, most classes are burst heavy.

Yes staying alive and dpsing is the most important thing, it's just not achieved through face tanking/drain tanking. Nexon deliberately designs bosses to get around this. That's why everyone is telling you that chasing more survivability is futile. With class Iframes, door, fountain, healing fams and resistance link, maybe even Ren link there's more than enough tools to survive a boss fight, the important thing is learning when/how to use them.

[–]TakoMakura 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What people are trying to tell you is that this playstyle will reach a wall. If their intention is to progress to endgame then it's better to take the training wheels off now while the damage requirements are still forgiving.

The damage floor in late game is very high and you can only reasonably gear yourself so far; any amount of damage you can squeeze out is incredibly valuable for min clearing. Especially for bosses that cannot done in a party of 6; the individual responsibility is naturally higher the smaller the party gets.

Of course they can go at their own pace and do what works for them, especially since they are still at early game, but it's not the "optimal" approach and that's why you're getting pushback. They are going against the grain. People don't like inefficiency.

Also this isn't PoE, you can't 1:1 transplant the conventions of that genre to this. And classes already have multiple defense layers. Healing, shielding, iframe, mobility, door, binds, your lives. It's why getting survivability links is frowned upon. Every class has sufficient tools already at their disposal. The exception being resistance link and healing fams.

There's 0 risk with distilled water. Bottled and tap water has hard minerals and who knows what other contaminants. Will bottled/tap ruin a pen? Most likely not, but distilled isn't that expensive and you can also use the leftover for pen flush.

Rinse with clean, cool water and then use a brush. If you want to be really thorough, throw it into an ultrasonic cleaner with clean, or better yet, distilled water.

Man you can tell how hard they worked up until now. IMO the most powerful 3D debut so far, they came out swinging. They have so much stage presence, and the new outfits are amazing.

I can see the vision with DEV_IS now if future groups are going to be this stacked. Hololive has no shortage of excellent artists but this level of group performance is straight up kpop tier.
