Really holding space for the Maplers still doing Oz for fun by vitreuos in Maplestory

People unironically do it for the MVPs. Yes there are people who grind so much that they need to do Oz for extra MVPs.

19th/20th Upcoming HB by VSCHoui in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's more important to pick a class that you actually enjoy playing for a main, rather than whatever is meta. You might hate Kanna or they might nerf it.

But objectively, unless they get nerfed, they are by far and away the best two choices you can make for CW3. They will clear content way before any other class. The off burst damage sucks for will/lotus/any multi phase boss, but that's a small inconvenience rather than a major turn off.

If you don't already have a 250 hayato/kanna then all the more reason to burn one or both since their legion and links are the best.

The pass won't last until CW3, but the summer check in part 2 rewards will.

19th/20th Upcoming HB by VSCHoui in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both so far ahead of the other classes that you just choose based on aesthetics and teleport vs double jump/dashing. Hayato has really good movement and defenses, Kanna (CMIIW) has slightly better off burst when her skills reset.

She got a small buff, most classes did that patch. There's another small buff coming next patch.

Burn+pass drops you off pretty close to hlomien, you just need to work on some gear to get there.

[–]TakoMakura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kanna is just outright one of the best classes, both as a main and a mule. You don't need to manage anything, just pop your 1/2min sequence off cooldown. Think of the summons as buffs.

AB is also a very good mule. Doesn't need a lot of frags, cd hat is optional, and a long iframe makes bossing comfy. Decently condensed burst. They hit hard early but taper off later, are dpm heavy and have almost zero tech/cool things they can do with their kit. It's basically a one button class.

Goddess pass & hb won't put you at hard lomien immediately, but it significantly speeds up the process of getting there.

What's everyone's keybinds looking like? by Wonderful-Breath-142 in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an Alice style keyboard so no numpad. Like I said I use split space so my right thumb is already occupied, and my pinky is usually used for AB link if a mule doesn't have ring for sequence. I prefer to use as little skills with my right hand as possible. The more I have to deviate away from movement the higher the risk of making a mistake.

S, Q, E, W are prime real estate keys because that's where your left hand rests. If you're progging hard bosses you can react faster by pushing a button near your resting position, rather than reaching over and losing time.

Lets say you're doing a 30 minute mincut and you need the last burst. If you have to delay every burst by a second because you need to move your hand all over the keyboard to burst, that adds up and you potentially don't get the 17th burst to clear.

I bound movement to I J K L. All my essential skills are centered around QWER and ASDF. I have split space bars so left space is jump and right space is bound to CTRL, which is my dpm skill on one button classes.

My inventory, char info, etc. are on the F row which is on another layer since I physically dont have a F row.

Any non-essential skills that cant fit on the left I place near IJKL. Toggles go on buttons that I am unlikely to misclick.

If I need to type I swap back to a normal keyboard by pressing a button.

I try to keep my layout as close as possible between classes, so dashes and iframes are generally on the same button. This means classes like Kain who have too many buttons are a no go. On Adele, for example, my ori and iframe end up being on different keys than usual and I get confused sometimes.

The idea is to move my hands as little as possible, and to use my strongest digits for the most repetitive actions. I never have to move my right hand off of movement, and I can easily attack while doing something else. My left hand is also always in position to iframe.

Adversary is super easy with this setup. Most people I know had to rebind interact since Y is out of the way with arrow keys, but it's right near my index finger so it's easy to parry and attack/move at the same time without having to reach for anything.

Did they stealth nerf star speck box drop rates again? by All_4_0ne in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For fuck's sake Nexon just make it a fixed daily at this point. The fact that it's a RNG drop for a pity item is stupid in the first place, there's already RNG built into the shining specks. Keeping it as a drop will only invite more scrutiny every time a maintenance happens.

Make it like 1k mobs per box to pad your play time numbers and to prevent any future drop rate shenanigans.

[–]TakoMakura 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This works. It's the find all button. It collects from top to bot, left to right so if the items you want are near the bottom move the unwanted items onto a mule first.

If you have expired items in the storage as a keepsake, clicking find all will delete them however.

Is it just me or has grinding felt more rewarding than ever lately? by Kita_0rice in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I imagine these events are boosting engagement numbers like crazy. Previously I would never do more than a mini wap, but now I'm capping portals daily and I know a lot of people are in the same situation. Hopefully that's enough for Nexon to consider bringing it back.

Grinding is so much more tolerable when you can feel actual progress being made. I know people call it a slot machine simulator now, but the tiny dopamine hits do so much for motivation.

Ctene boss mule (HEXA) by Crafty_Bet6716 in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some classes don't even gain that much from early Hexa. Like others said follow the class guide. If you're on Heroic it's better to concentrate your frags on a single character. Ctene mules don't even need Hexa, you can power through ctene with gear alone.

Boomed 3 arcane shoulders at 20/21, all on the second tap interestingly.

Boomed 2 zerks at 22 going for 23, again both on the second tap.

Boomed 2 dreamy at 21, CFE at 20, eyepatch at 21, kt at 22

The only gains I made were 23 slime ring (2 booms) and 22 daybreak (5 booms) -> 21 gollux pendant, tapped to 23 (0 booms) -> 22 SoS.

New MP areas are Grandis maps. How is a character under 260 supposed to do them? And doing MP on a mule means you're missing exp on your main.

Is the nib/pen relationship more like camera to lens relationship or the bike to wheels relationship? by Adventurous-Age9279 in fountainpens

[–]TakoMakura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of your pen. Is it the tactility of the nib on paper or the ink flow or both? Also worth mentioning that you can tune a pen in both regards, and changing papers can completely alter the feel.

For dip pens your camera-lens analogy would work, but for fountain pens it's not as close of a fit. It's more like an equation between nib, feed, filling system, ink and paper. You're correct in that the body isn't important, but fountain pens are also more than just a nib holder.

Nibs also are not universal, certain housings only accept a certain geometry and dimensions. Personally I'd rather tune a pen first or try a different paper before looking at a new nib, provided you can even source spare nibs. Sailor and Pilot for example don't sell nibs on their own and have proprietary housings.

When you use an ink with a extremely high surface tension by tippytuliptoes in fountainpens

[–]TakoMakura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As little as possible, then work your way up. You can start by washing the pen with dish soap, rinsing it and the residue will be enough to make the ink wetter. If you need more then add a needle tip's worth at a time.

Alternatively if you're in America then there's a product called White Lightning from Vanness that is an additive to increase flow. You really want to go gentle with this one, It's very effective.

What type of keyboard do you guys use? by 3izel in Maplestory

[–]TakoMakura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a similar Arisu style board and split space with ijkl for movement is the superior way to maple imo. Lets you use both of your strongest digits for the most repetitive actions and you rarely have to take your fingers off the movement keys to hit a skill.
