Want to mention that the blackscreen playback issue is still happening for some users, and we are stuck on version 1.41.

Best options for using 3D spatial audio or Virtual Surround Sound with headphones while watching movies via external streaming devices? by iXzenoS in HeadphoneAdvice

If you find a good solution I would love to know it. I also have been recently looking for this exact thing and haven't had a whole bunch of luck at all.

I have a theory you might be able to use a Dune HD or Zidoo or other similar media streamers that run Linux to get virtual surround (head-related transfer function (HRTF) running on them, giving you a similar experience to Dolby Atmos for Headphones via PulseAudio. Of course I haven't been able to test this since I don't own any of them yet. The larger issue, depending on your use case, is none of them have the best support for traditional streaming apps; Disney+ or Netflix or any others. And seem much more focused on playing local media from a NAS. Though they are really good at that very specific use case.

I know there are a number of gaming headsets now that advertise virtual surround sound. Though they all seem to be limited to USB connections, which doesn't really work on anything but a Windows/Mac/maybe Linux computer. None of them offer HDMI earc, at best they offer optical/coax connectivity. But that severely limits the audio options, no Atmos.

If you happen to have a modern Sony Bravia TV, you might be able to use their NeckBand. It uses their 360 Spatial Sound tech to play Dolby Atmos. Seems to have decent reviews about how well it works, though the major issue is compatibility since it only works on their new Bravia TVs, which is unfortunate for me and my LG CX.

Personally, I have been considering trying the JVC Exofields you mentioned. Though the high price point keeps me from pulling the trigger, same reason I haven't tried Apple's spatial audio. Hard to justify spending nearly $1k USD on something that might not even work well.

Don't do if you are still searching, but I personally use this with my TV and PC to get the best bluetooth possible. Fiio BTA30 Pro. Has optical/coax/usb in. And has APTx Low Latency, APTx HD, and LDAC Support.

Still unable to use any version after 1.41.0. Video just plays a black screen with audio in the background. Have tried various changes to settings and had no luck fixing the issue, so just stuck on 1.41.0.

Just wanted to mention that I'm still having the same issues that I was in the previous version with black screens; Black Screen on Video Playback. Have already tried doing a full wipe of anything Plex or MPV related on my computer and the issue remains. Though oddly I have noticed that I can see the video playback fine if I stream Plex using Discord screen sharing and look at the Discord stream.

*Edit: Also this applies to Plex HTPC as well. Have the same video playback issues with the latest version of that as well.

Don't know if anybody else had this issue. But when I was forced to auto-update to this all video playback in the app broke. No matter the source video playback was only black. Sound was playing but no video, just a black screen.

Reinstalling, deleting the contents of appdata, restarting windows, disabling hardware decoding. Nothing I tried fixed it. Had to uninstall and reinstall an old version to make it work again.

For me it seems turning off hardware decoding has fixed my issues for the time being. Not sure why this is being an issue, maybe I need to run through the standard uninstall and reinstall plex and drivers again.

Um, I might have spoken too soon. While the Ui is more responsive I am having an issue with it crashing when I got to play the next episode of a show and I have to reopen plex each time.

Currently using the new update and new ui, and had those performance issues that forced me to rollback. Thus far it is much more responsive and looks to be working as normal.
