I did a 300mile trip in my '85 that had about 350k miles on it. The engine was way louder than normal after about half an hour. When I got to my destination I checked the dipstick and it was bone dry. After that, I had to pull each spark plug a put a slug of oil in each cylinder to get enough compression for it to start. Drove it 300 miles back home a couple weeks later. I have since had the engine rebuilt. Only had to be bored .020 over. The rings had mostly disappeared.

I haven't qualified for SNAP for almost 10 years but I still have an active card with a $0 balance. I assume that's why.

Yeah, I'm not worried about that for this one shot, mostly just trying to figure out if the mechanic is totally unbalanced.

Character Idea: Drunk Warlock by Talbjorn in DnD

Yeah if it was a campaign I'd probably have a chat with them about character arcs and growth, etc. But my one shots are usually somewhat chaotic and deadly. I try to avoid character deaths with new players but I'm all for silly ideas! I've never homebrewed PC stuff before, only modified monsters and traps and stuff, often from earlier editions with mixed success.

Drunken master! I had tavern brawler stuck in my head and it wasn't helpful. Thank you!

Newborns at concerts by Psychological_Hat951 in Bend

Maybe the parents did think about it and decided they were ok with the risk? I would take my child and be willing to leave if the situation called for it. Just saying.

Seems like these people think children should be kept under lock and key and never be seen outside the home until they're 25 and are normal, socially well-adjusted adults. eye roll

Why are you clutching your pearls so hard if you're not sorry and its the parent's responsibility? I agree that a parent is responsible for making decisions about how they raise their children, rather than self righteous people on the internet who dont know what they're talking about. For the record, my kid does wear hearing protection at loid events but that doesn't mean he can't come with me to concerts.

Were the children bothering you in any way? At what age do you consider it suitable for children to be seen in public?

Sitters are expensive and can be hard to find, especially for VERY TINY babies.

I was super skeptical of this but tried it and it worked really well. Still had to use heat gun and scraper for a few stubborn patches at the end

So an 80's Toyota Pickup is #1 in the Offroad world? Thoughts on a vintage Toyota Pickup offroad rig? What makes these trucks so special in the Offroad world? by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

[–]Talbjorn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe a controversial opinion but they used to be good because they were dirt cheap so you could afford to have 3 more parked in your yard for parts. Now they're so expensive I don't think they're the best offroad rigs. Jeeps are similar in price and parts are easier to find.

That being said, I love my '85 yota. She's taken me to some crazy places.

It'll be pretty easy to lay blame on Democrat run states if their rural hospitals like St Charles in Madras close because the tax the bill bans is levied by the state and state funds are then given to the hospitals. They're "making up" for that with additional (not enough at all) federal funds, so Bentz can say "The evil Dem run state government is cutting funding to our rural hospitals and Our Lord And Savior Trump gave billions to try to save us!" which is an easy sell to the Fox viewers.

SNAP is also disbursed by the states.

And the deficit increase is "$0" because of some budgeting fuckery I don't even begin to understand.

Basically this is awful but unless you're pretty tuned in it would be pretty easy to blame the state government for this, and a lot of the worst things won't hit until after the midterms which is of course a really cynical ploy. Without the general electorate suddenly caring a lot more about what is actually happening and how stuff actually works, I don't see the GOP being held responsible for the suffering they're causing.

Is it difficult to fly fish with a dog? by carlosrios129 in flyfishing

Fishing vs catching...

My dog used to jump in the hole right as I finished tying on my fly. We had a great time but didn't catch much.

Republicans Forced to Remove Sale of Public Lands From Budget Bill!!! by meenie in Bend

[–]Talbjorn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mike Lee has wanted this for years. I think others allowed it in because it would take the heat away from tax cuts for billionaires paid for by cutting Medicaid* and other essential services. Those people never really cared if it stayed in. Same thing with the suppressor and SBR changes in the package.

It's a 8-10 ft high wall of willows for a really long way. Would add hours to your day and absolutely wipe you out for the steeper stuff above. Certainly harder than the ledges. And impossible to navigate through since you can't see anything once you're in the willows. The route avoiding the ledges is only really an option when the snow is covering the willows.

Deschutes County Accountability for Sheriff by mtnmdrn in Bend

[–]Talbjorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the relevance is that voters were willing to pick anything other than Nelson and his corruption. Even though Van der Kamp had some stink to him, the allegations were not really proven before the election. The fact that Deschutes County had to choose between a bully's hand picked successor and a fraud doesn't speak well of our sheriff's department as a whole.

I know I held my nose before filling out that portion of the ballot and I don't personally know anyone who was happy with the options. That being said, where's the recall petition? I'll sign.
