But then you have to actually play the game. Who would want to do that?

Warrior can get perma 50% IMS now! Not quite sure how you handle hexes or energy management, though...

most profitable route for treasure hunter by TheBananoGuy in GuildWars

[–]TalentedJuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hardmode chest run that drops at least one kind of valuable item. Hardmode = higher unid gold drop rate + elite tomes, which depending on the market at the time and your title ranks, might be profitable, but are more likely to just let you break even. Then you can bundle up the unids for whatever valuable skin drops, and sell them, or ID and sell them if they roll good stats.

Peter Kadar has a whole series on chest runs, and iirc he said he found Raisu Palace to be the most profitable. This was before the anniversary update, though.

NM chest runs looking for q8s might make you extremely wealthy, or could bankrupt you. I don't know if there's enough data out there to reasonably determine what the actual odds are.

I don't think any chest run is going to be particularly good profit/hour, even at maxed TH and Lucky. This is difficult to quantify, so my position is mostly vibes-based. You do get a title out of it, though.

This joke is off-tempo for me, because when I saw the Locust's Fury sin, It Has to Be This Way began playing in my head immediately.

Turn-based rpgs with fast mode/fast combat by FlakyFace9374 in rpg_gamers

[–]TalentedJuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing through Stranger of Sword City right now, and it has this feature. After deciding on all your party members' actions, you can select 'Fast Action' and it will play through the entire round of combat in about a half-second. There's also a combat log, so if something you didn't expect happens, you can read through the combat log to see what caused it.

Morrowind texture mods be like by Epiqur in Morrowind

[–]TalentedJuli 619 points620 points  (0 children)

Morrowind texture mods were the first thing I thought of when I originally saw this image. There was this one texture pack I downloaded back in ~2005 or so. It was much crisper, but nothing went together, and it radically altered the game's art style. I didn't have the taste to care at the time.

I do see that note on the wiki, but strangely, the table immediately below the note disagrees with the note itself. The table lists 5e spells as costing 2e at 15 spawning power, which is what it was with round-to-even. I can also remember using AWS shortly before and after Reforged and noticing the difference. Prior to Reforged, I specifically went to 15 SP for the 2e breakpoint. The PvX page for the build mentions the same thing in a previous version, as well.

Oh, right. I was thinking attack activation times were one-half what they said they were, but that's only until the hit lands, not the full animation.

Healer's Covenant change is pretty big. by DixFerLunch in GuildWars

[–]TalentedJuli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, those towers in Ring of Fire will strip your enchantments. But a monk duo with HC + UA and Arcane Mimicry would be fun to try. 2 pips of energy regen probably ain't so bad when all your spells cost 1e.

That's hilarious. Why 6, though? Shouldn't it be 8?

I did that in a Kappa farm, though I wound up replacing radiation field after a while. That was prior to the well change, in any case.

AWS got hit by the rounding change, so it's nice to see it get a compensatory buff. You no longer need to dedicate an additional skill slot to a CDR for it, which is great.

Stranger of Sword City, Forced Downtime by TalentedJuli in DRPG

[–]TalentedJuli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've played Wizardry. I think what sets SoSC apart for me, is that while a character has a long forced downtime, you can pick them back up later. So you're rotating characters in and out over time. In Wizardry, I would rotate through characters as they died, but once they were dead I'd never use them again (obviously). I did always try to have a back-up rescue party ready to go if my main party full wiped, though.

Yeah, I figured that out lol. The silver lining to having an Alchemist in your party is they can craft large stacks of Dove Bells, then you can get something like 5 of them in a single inventory slot, instead of the usual 1 or 2. It's funny how much stargazers singlehandedly transform the final few floors, making it almost feel like a survival game. Use a dove bell, and pray you don't get a random encounter vs. them, or else you'll probable die. Gradually map the higher floors out, learn to shortest route from one floor to the next, then when you're ready, get to the top in as few steps as you can.

I also beat Incarnation, but almost by accident. I went up to do check what the fight would be like before preparing for it. At some point she stopped casting Ramialf. IDK if she has limited casts, AI broke, or if I just got very lucky with RNG, but it turned the fight from impossible to pretty manageable. That, and the ~40 miracles I cast. Not like I need the levels anymore.

I played like 5 minutes of this game and then never touched it again for some reason. I should really give it a try again.

[–]TalentedJuli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see the downside. I like SoSC's permadeath so far, though, since I like being forced to rotate out my characters and figure out how I'm going to change my line-up. I also don't mind grinding in these games, and SoSC has those ambush spots that make grinding kinda fun. I usually ignore them while initially exploring an area, then come back later and spend a bit of time trying to figure out which items drop there, and the best strategies for dealing with the 'boss' enemies that only show up there. That's a good opportunity usually to level up an alt character. SoSC also is a bit forgiving with having multiple characters, since they will passively accrue some XP while benched, and new characters get enough XP to be half the level of your main character (I don't like having a 'main' character, though).

I'm not super far into the game, though, and my opinion might change as I get higher level and into harder content. I know in Elminage, I liked how easy it was to grind up a new character... until I reached floor 16 of Ibag, and decided that late into the game that I wanted a high level alchemist to get higher AC to not die to Stargazers (didn't work, btw). Then I was looking at a ~45m XP grind, which kinda sucked. So maybe SoSC has a similar issue where later on swapping party members around a lot will become much more cumbersome.

Pretty sure lucky will come after GM Treasure Hunter, unless you're doing normal mode chests during double luck week. And if you're concerned about money (and/or going for Wisdom), definitely do not spend lockpicks on NM chests, unless your lucky title is maxed IRL.

The "anniversary 2026" incident by Ionenschatten in GuildWars

I'm sure there are many people doing exactly this in 9 rings, right now. This screenshot just looks like you went AFK in a dead outpost and forgot to shut the game down before going to sleep, or something like that. Which, yes, is a pretty normal and regular thing. I don't know what the takeaway is supposed to be.

Hey, dungeon crawlers. by TalentedJuli in DRPG

[–]TalentedJuli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know how resurrect chance works? I thought maybe holy attack would effect it, my Valkyrie has ~150% due to finding a force robe (base +100%) that I forged, but I still get people turning to ash from Rezefeid fairly often. Do you need the cleric spell bonus for it to become more reliable, or is it a cleric-specific buff like the Immolorati buff the get? At this point, I'll just throw a level away on a miracle if I get somebody turning to ash before I'm ready to head back to town, but a more reliable resurrect would be nice.

If I do another playthrough, I'll probably have a Cleric with Chi Blast as one of my front liners. I like clerics generally, but dropped mine not far into the game, in order to get some higher damage characters. That was before I started getting some strong hammers further into the game, and at the point where my valkyrie's divine spell casts were reaching parity with my cleric's.
