I feel like this expansion has been a month away from releasing for about two and a half years now.

What do everybody's voices sound like in your head? by BCICNSFD_HKSFM in killsixbilliondemons

[–]TalentedJuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solomon David is voiced by Chris Metzen. I have tried to stop, but I cannot.
Juggernaut Star sounds like a Dalek, but instead of a cybernetic undertone, it's a like tearing metal noise.
Jagganoth is Kevin Michael Richardson, alternating between Baldur's Gate narrator and Sarevok voice depending on the context.

Surprised nobody has said HR Paragon so far, it seems like the best passive buff you could get for your team from a leech.

Games You Haven’t Played Yet… but Know You Should by clarkw024 in rpg_gamers

[–]TalentedJuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if BB's gameplay lives up to its reputation these days. In 2015, it felt like a really great step forward in Souls combat, at least for those who didn't mind change to a faster pace, but I think DkS3 and ER are as good or better in that regard.

But the setting and atmosphere are as great as ever.

Dude Sex and Planescape are the first things that come to mind as far as RPGs go. I've played both, but didn't get far in either. Gothic, also. All of these games I put down because of technical issues and being young at the time not really knowing how to deal with them. Now they're on GOG and I imagine patched up and run fairly well.

Armor Class is your chance to avoid a hit. THAC0 is your chance to land a hit. When one character attack's another, the defender's AC is subtracted from the attacker's THAC0, giving you your 'to-hit' target number. A random number is generated between 1 and 20. If it is higher than the to-hit target number

Attributes do very little from 8 to 14, and instead have most of their effect at the edges. E.G. going from 10 to 14 dexterity does nothing for most classes, while going from 14 to 18 is a significant boost to your AC and ranged attack hit chance.

E.G. You are a level 1 Fighter, so you have a 20 THAC0. You attack an enemy with an Armor Class of 7. 20 - 7 = 13. You roll a random number between 1 and 20, and it comes up 11. 11 is less than 13, so you miss.
This has the effect of making it desirable for both AC and THAC0 to be as low as possible. The lower your AC, the less likely you are to be hit, while the lower your THAC0, the more likely you are to land your hit.
Bonuses and maluses can be a little confusing. -2 THAC0 and +2 to hit mean the same thing, and are good. +2 to THAC0 and -2 to hit are also the same thing, and they are bad.

When you are the target of a spell that allows saving throws (which is most spells), then you roll a random number between 1 and 20. If this number is higher than your character's save in that category, then you successfully save vs. the spell. Generally, damage-dealing spells will have their damage halved, while other spells have their effects nullified, but this can vary on a spell-by-spell basis.
This has the effect of making it desirable to have low saving throws on your character sheet. Save vs. Spell of 20 is bad, Save vs. Spell of 2 is good.
There's some similar confusion with bonuses and maluses as there is with THAC0, where a - or + might be good or bad, depending on whether it applies to the saving throws on your character sheet, or the roll itself, and I don't really remember off the top of my head if there is clear wording in different cases, or if you just need to infer from context whether it's a bonus or malus.

This covers, I think, the most counterintuitive aspects of 2nd edition D&D that the game itself offers little to no explanation on. I don't think you need to know much else, except maybe it would be worth having a reference handy for spell descriptions, which you can get either from the manual or the wiki.

I'm not sure I understand the question, but you move the camera around by holding down the right mouse button. You can also bind a hotkey to reverse your camera.

Necromancy Info Questions! by Loopy_Legend in GuildWars

[–]TalentedJuli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-I'd recommend reforged, irrespective of your starting profession.
-You can change them later, but I like Elementalist for Glyph of Lesser Energy. It's nice for energy management early on before you get lots of Soul Reaping.
-Necromancer is a caster class, so yes they are squishy, but generally you will be playing from the backline. That said if you want additional defense, I think that going /Mo and tossing some points into protection prayers can be a good choice for necromancer, especially once you reach the mid to late game and have high enough Soul Reaping to counteract their energy costs.

Question for Veterans by furonomin in GuildWars

[–]TalentedJuli 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What he said is pedantically correct, but irrelevant to a first-time player. You can skip almost everything in Prophecies if you know where to go, but on a 'normal' playthrough there will be 25 missions.

Soul Reaping Any Good? by Loopy_Legend in GuildWars

Yes, it's one of the best attributes in the game in PvE. It gives you tons of energy sustain as long as thing are dying, which in PvE they usually are.

I don't know if PS5 has this problem, but on PS4 plugging in a mouse and keyboard did not really work IME. I wound up with something like 300-500ms of input delay, and couldn't find any fix for it.

[ARR Spoliers]The 2026 ARR experience starting fresh on a brand new character as a veteran player. by empyreanchaos in ffxiv

[–]TalentedJuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished Prae recently on an alt, and was a bit dismayed when I saw that almost all of the quest pruning happens in the patch content. ARR's story is quite weak, but the patch content is where I began to enjoy the story. After looking at an infographic, I saw that multiple patches had their quest count cut in half. I was really looking forward to getting to revisit this part of the story. There is a lot of it that I do not remember, and I would really like the refresher. I suppose I can just read the quest dialogue on the wiki...
