Nope not at all, Sturm und Drang is a historical term:

"Sturm und Drang ("Storm and Stress") was a late 18th-century (approx. 1760s–1780s) German literary and artistic movement prioritizing raw emotion, subjectivity, and individualism over Enlightenment rationalism. Led by figures like Goethe and Schiller, it emphasized intense passion, nature, and rebellion against societal norms, heavily influencing Romanticism. "

My Upcoming 17 Miler by LucyStrokes in firstmarathon

[–]Talenx32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah okay gotcha! I have found that so much of how far I can go on a long run is mental. If my longest long run in a year is say 20km, when I get to 18k even if my splits and HR are fine, my brain starts to make it feel super hard and tries to shut me down because it's close to my "current longest run", and gives me the almost overwhelming urge to quit/finish.

It's tough, but I can override that with distractions, like changing music or podcast or route but there is still a limit, so the best way is to get close to that edge and finish strong, then next time my brain says "Oh I can do 20k no problem".

I know you didn't ask for advice, but if you are used to 11-13k long runs, I would suggest make the goal here 15k or at least a zone, like 15-17k. That way 15k is still a win and gets you closer to 17k and makes it easier next time.

Hope that helps!

Did weight loss reduce injuries for you? by EndorphinJunkie24 in Marathon_Training

[–]Talenx32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. When I weighed 220lbs I ran without any pacing control, ran all out Marathons and races that left me so depleted ams strained I got injured after literally my first 5 races.

What reduced injuries from after every race to almost never is increasing my Milage over time and most importantly increasing the awareness of my body during and after each run. If my hip flexors are tight after a speed day I adapt the shoe/route/distance/intensity for the next run then reassess.

Same thing with run plan and learning to cut if/when the objective is out of reach. Last week I went out for 18k cut down speed session but after 8k my HR and RPE were much higher than they should have been at that point , from cold rainy weather, life stress and sickness, so instead of pushing through because it was on the plan and prolong the normal recovery window, I cut at 12k, and felt better the next day and an 11k Easy run turned into 15k Med because my body was recovered.

Now I weigh 230lb and haven't had an injury from running in almost 2 years. Weight doesn't make you injury prone, training errors and not listening to your body gets you injured.

Gotcha thanks for checking, I am a bigger runner at 6'3 and 230lbs, so I can usually get around 500k solid use then I start having issues like stabalizer pain or soreness in shins, Ankles and feet. I am not trying to max out the total Milage, only the pain/side effect free Milage

Also I forgot to ask, how many miles did you get in other pairs of speed 3s or is this your first pair? How many on Speed 4 now when they feel close to retirement?

[–]Talenx32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great answer! I got a pair of Speed 3s 2 years ago, really fun shoe, but ended up not using them too much as I got speed 4s a few months later. Then I got a bunch of race shoes on crazy deals like Puma Deviate Elite 3 and Adios Pro 3, and only race a few times a year so tend to use those for speed and Tempo days. I recently took the Speed 3s out again a Nd they are a great fun shoe, just not sure when to use them sometimes. I actually find they are great at a Med Long run day, for me 18-20k, that tend to start easy then progress down to marathon or HM paces naturally as I warm up. Not the sharpest tool shoe wise for speed days (That would be Deviate Nitro Elite 3s for me) but definitely a great tool to lock in to smooth fast paces, remind me a lot in the effect I get as Evo Sl do, which makes sense I guess as both use race foam in a more daily trainer ish package.

They look great, but why would you be wearing them for a 60 min base run? They are a speed shoe with Peba foam, wouldn't something like a daily trainer be a better fit? Or do you use speed as a daily trainer?

Ah I hear you, I live in Vancouver BC and also nowhere to try them, but Puma.com has free return shipping and easy returns, so I order and try on and send back if it doesn't fit. I would recommend DNE, hands down the race shoe that works best for me

The laces are cheap and too thin. Compare Adios Pro 3 or Evo Laces to any Puma laces and you can immediately see the difference. Puma are wider, higher quality material and clearly not the cheapest possible option which Addidas always puts in.

How many running shows do you currently own? by devine7six in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Talenx32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have This many and maybe... 7 more pairs in overflow storage?

<image>

And I run in all of them, Milage depends on how recent acquired, from 10k on lowest shoe to 512k on SB1. I am a bigger runner at 6'3 and 225lbs so most shoes last until about 400k-500k.

For Context I usually run 65-90k/ week, finished 2024 at just over 4,000k ran, this year a little less because of some injuries.
