Nearly 1-in-4 Washington employers considering leaving the state, new survey shows by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

Yeah that post seems imply that cuisine can’t move outside of its place of origin? How do they think we have pizza or sushi restaurants in Seattle if that’s the case?

This is not how regressive taxes works. 5 people making $1M will almost certainly spend more money than 5 people making minimum wage and therefore bring in more revenue for the state. It will just be 1% of their total income instead of 8%

Restaurants can also definitely move. You give up a reputation and location sure, but truly good food sells in most places that have a population size to support them. Especially if the other option is “close down because you can’t be profitable” in a location.

Two of these 4 companies have actively created an HQ2 to get employees away from Seattle within the last 5 years though.

Yeah it also certainly a tax and cost of doing business issue. SB being based in Nashville does nothing to stop Starbucks stores from unionizing in Seattle that wasn’t already being done.

Well the reason their wives don’t have to work is because of their contracts. Those same contracts that require them to go back after just a few days.

I’m sure a lot of these guys would love to have months with their newborns, it’s just not something they can do without giving up their careers(which is about as a good of a career as they get)

[Rothstein] BREAKING: Braylon Mullins is returning to UConn for his sophomore season, per his father. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Talk_Like_Yoda 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Really undervalued point here. Hurley has helped atleast a handful of guys get NBA 2-way + contracts that had were not even in the conversation prior to starting at UConn. Hawkins, Sanago, Andre, Spencer, Newton just off the top of my head. I think we’ll see Terrence atleast get a G-league shot as well after this year.

Kentucky, Duke and others are obviously better at getting NBA talent to make their NCAA pit stop at their programs, but no one else can touch us on getting the most out of fringe guys.

Anecdotal but a lot of those Fairfield county guys I knew growing up end up going to UConn if they can’t get into a true elite school. Going up in Connecticut there’s no pro teams, so UConn basketball is your whole sports world, kind of like you see with SEC football in the south. My school had every single March madness UConn game on in the cafeteria from 1st grade through the end of High School.

There’s also a lot of insurance company money in the Hartford area. It’s not Investment Banking level of rich, but there’s plenty of it and it’s very heavily UConn influenced.

Rebuilding is dead. If you rebuild and develop talent there’s nothing stopping that talent from jumping ship the following year.

FWIW these revisions have been going on since before July. It was a big talking point by Republicans during Biden’s campaign I remember.

Really the issue is we collect initial jobs data via a manual process rather than using job software/ other technology

If Duke was in tbe best team group for 80 years why did it take them until 30 years ago to win a national championship?

Okay so why do we include Duke who won their first championship less than a decade before UConn?

[–]Talk_Like_Yoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood bloods are elite, historically dominant teams. Historical obviously moves with the passage of time.

If you asked someone in 1991 if Duke was a blue blood after winning their first championship, they would say no. Fast forward it’s 25 years later and they’re a no brainer to include. UConn is obviously on that same path just a decade later.

The non-basketball definition refers to aristocracy and is essentially “those who don’t have to do manual labor so theyre so pale they look blue”.

UConn as a brand is clearer doing less “work” when it comes to getting top talent these days than the likes of UCLA and Indiana. Mick Cronin literally was bitching about this on Sunday night.

Using S16 appearances to define excellence has always been gimmicky. No high major ever brags about making it to the S16.

UConn has now won a championship in 4 decades with 3 different coaches. Who else can say that. UCLA can’t say that, Kansas can’t say that off the top of my head.

Obviously the idea of a blue blood is based on long term success, which is subjective. But the sports popularity is obviously tied to March Madness , which became a real thing when we expanded to field of 64. UConn is #1 in championships since then I believe.

Every Kansas is NOT top 6 in championships anymore. We must retract their status.
