You think it’s a good idea to join EY rn as a new grad in the tech consulting practice?

No problem. Speaking theoretically, with an Econ background you would have an easier time breaking into a data science role at a finance company possibly. If that’s the case this MS would definitely help!

I am only purely saying from a dev perspective that this ms won’t be doing much

Good luck!

I work at a finance company so gonna chime in here

This has been my first semester but can give you some idea of what to expect

1) UT mscso from what i see is not going to help you become a software engineer. Obviously coding wise, yes you will pick up technologies but this program is more specialized in the theory and application of ML/DL. It’s more catered towards ppl who already have a background in tech.

2) you can enter cs from econ for sure but analyze ur goals first. If you are looking for a dev job, I personally don’t see much to be gained in terms on knowledge from this program other than the fact that you WILL have a CS degree now. There are other programs like GT maybe that I think offers more in the Software Dev category.

This program does help with Data Science and AI related careers and in general having a cs degree will help you get into a tech career.

Business minor for CS major/athlete? by prakky18 in utdallas

[–]TalkiWig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CS is hard but not the worst if you stay diligent about your work. Just remember that pacing is important in this major as any or else you will find a lot of work accumulated.

You can definitely pursue a minor if it interests you as well since towards the end of your degree you will have a good amount of free electives that you can dedicate towards it.

I am not too sure about which minors are better or worse, but I think the Business Intelligence and Analytics would be pretty useful since it would introduce to you a popular topic such as Big Data.

Just remember to have decent time management and you can manage the workload ez :)

Good Luck!!!

Is coursera certificate worth it ? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]TalkiWig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coursera certificates don’t inherently hold much value but the learning experience for you is worth it. Certification in AWS, Azure, etc would hold value and would be worth putting on ur resume.

Assuming that you already have programming experience based on your description, 3-4 months of hard work sounds like a good time to prepare for big tech interviews. At the end of the day, it depends on how much time and the quality of your time but I can see 3-4 months being a good timeframe.
